that was..... surprisingly hilarious!
Thought it was great. That may be the first hour-long Office that 1) didn't feel like a slog, and 2) worked well from beginning to end. I loved the way they did the ceremony - played it for some good laughs, intercut it with Pam and Jim on the boat, didn't over-milk the emotional scenes, etc. And the rest of it was great - easily the best wedding sitcom i've seen! 10/9/2009 12:49:46 AM |

^2 that made me laugh out as well. i actually did an immediate rewind and listened to that entire conversation all over again.
the dance was good too. if for no other reason that the office paid homage to the originality of some youtube posters.
memorable pictures was also a great idea. i think it touched on some of the original dynamic between pam and jim that we haven't seen in a long time. 10/9/2009 10:21:05 AM |

contrived? don't know why that would actually happen?
well, take it up with these people.... where it happened exactly like they did on The Office http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8DCt3Lmi28
they were all going down the isle because, as Jim mentioned, as soon as he saw the clip here, he knew that Michael and his co-workers, with the help of his idiotic brothers, would do the same thing, behind his back, at the wedding.

You missed the point of those posts 10/12/2009 12:20:24 AM |
agentlion All American 13936 Posts user info edit post |
the point is, you seemed to implying that the dance scene was some crazy, contrived, "only happens on The Office" situation and it would take quite a suspension of reality to think that something like that would actually happen . There have been lots of scenes like this in the past on The Office - off the top of my head: kidnapping the pizza boy; Angela keeping cats in her filing cabinet and throwing them in the ceiling during a fire, which Dwight started; pretty much anything that happens at Dwight's farm; Michael doing the survivor-man thing; almost any of the parties, etc etc.
But then, finally, one of the "zany, crazy" things that happens on The Office that's actually based on a real event, and is staged almost exactly like what really happened, and now people are complaining about how fake it seemed. 10/12/2009 12:28:05 AM |
Ernie All American 45943 Posts user info edit post |
Fake does not equal contrived. It was called contrived, no one said anything about fake. That scene just seemed to be trying way too hard.
First you were trying to bust on people for not knowing where the idea came from, despite the discussion stemming from Spontaneous's comment about the original Youtube video. Then you just made up some conversation where people were griping about it being fake.
Who cares 10/12/2009 12:43:16 AM |

This. The last 10 minutes were difficult to sit through.

They also swapped actors for Pam's mom... I think. They showed Pam's mom in that sexual harassment episode. The new one was much older. Certainly something easy to look over though.

What I actually took to happen, was that when Stanley made the reservations they were for Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Hudson. But in the past couple of weeks before the wedding, his wife left him because of Cynthia, so he's bringing Cynthia instead. It's not like he's going to change it from "Mr. and Mrs." to "Mr. and mistress" just for the hotel to acknowledge.10/12/2009 9:20:55 AM |

I think it was a great episode, they kept the emotional/dramatic parts to a minimum, I mean the only serious part was the first few lines of Jim's attempt at a toast, and then the actual ceremony on the boat... I liked how they incorporated everyone into the show though, usually characters are left out for the most part in each show, but everyone had a small bit, which was nice. And don't tell me you didn't laugh for the last few minutes, the dancing was hilarious, and that youtube marriage is now even more famous.
