I like my Costco amex...

3% cash back for annual gasoline purchases of up to $3,000 (1% thereafter)
3% cash back for restaurants
2% cash back for travel
1% cash back everywhere else, including Costco

You'd think they'd give you more than 1% when shopping at their place of business.

so, paid off chase credit card completely..they then chop my credit limit down to $1,000

i've never missed a payment

never been late

never paid just the minimum

just paid off a $5K+ balance partially over a few months and then a big chunk at the end

they're just pissed that i had a 2.9% interest rate on that 5K balance bc of a special offer they had a while back. i transferred all my other debt to this one card since the rate was so low.. the catch with the offer was if you're even late on a single payment the rate would go to like 25% or something ridiculous like that.

oh well.. i'm sure as hell not alone.. way too many stories out there of this after googling. just sucks it hurts my ratios of available to used credit and is my oldest account so i really dont want to close it. gah.

^, ^^ same boat. It's probably the only card I'll keep once its paid off since I've had it for like 10 years. They better not fuck with my limit.

Fuck all credit card companies. They are just pissed now that their unethical tactics are now against the law and they have to somehow create new ways to rip people off. Carrying a credit card balance anymore is a unwise move even at a low interest rate.

"Then the interest pushed my cards over the limits and fees starting packing on. Thats what $300 in interest a month does to you. Well, fuck you Chase. The first month I went late on one of my cards - I get a phone call from Chase 5 days after it was due telling me my $480 minimum payment was now $1295. They tacked on the regular late fee and some HUGE charge which they called the 'default fee'. Their default fee was always listed as like $29 or $39 in the paperwork I received, not $700+. This is why I had to file for debt settlement, I had no choice. If I hadn't lost my job, those bitches would be paid off."

They pretty much did the same thing to me. Go ahead and write a detailed letter explaining all that (with documentation) to NC attorney general, both NC senators, and file complaint with BBB at the same time. Someone with Chase executive services will probably remove all of the fees withing a week.

Make sure to pay down as much as you can to keep from going over the new limit again or they will try to rape you another round.

Yeah, I hate getting to borrow money for free every month and then getting rewarded at the end of each month when I pay off my balance.

good luck. lol

the crazy part about my situation is that i always had MUCH more than $1,000 of credit left on that card.. so why they'd chop it down that low after I paid it off is beyond me.

After going to Seoul and Tokyo, I noticed a little blue dot next to foreign purchases on my AmEx statement:

Quote :
"*Foreign Currency conversion rate is base rate plus 2.7% (for transactions processed prior to 01/11/09, conversion rate is base rate plus 2%)."

Can't say I really understand this attitude.

"How dare the people who are loaning me money adjust the terms on which they are loaning me money!"

I've never felt real compelled to get a cc. I'm responsible with money but irresponsible with paying shit on time.

Now though, I'm starting to think about a house in my future, so I'm wondering about my credit score since I've neglected to get a card. I may get a cc soon to start trying to build up some credit. Do you guys have favorite ways to check your score?

As I understand it:
annualcreditreport.com = legit 1 time per year credit check
freecreditreport.com = legit free check, but enrolls you in a monthly payment plan
others = sketchy?

^^agreed

^x4 Get the Schwab Invest First card offered by FIA Card Services -> no int'l fee. (also gives 2% cashback on all purchases).

^There's really no reason to go anywhere but annualcreditreport.com You get 1 check of each of the 3 bureaus, which you can space out to check your credit more regularly throughout the year. Granted, a lot of accounts won't show up on all 3 but you can get a pretty good idea of where you stand by 'averaging' the 3.

^^ annualcreditreport.com is all you need.

you get 3 free credit checks per year. If you actual want the score you usually have to pay a few books though.

I've got a Fidelity FIA card which I'm sure has similar terms. I just usually put stuff on the Amex because I like the rewards better. Wish I hadn't figured out the international rate the hard way.

When I recently used my card in Egypt, they not only didn't charge an int'l fee but they also gave me a better exchange rate than I could find anywhere else.
