So is that harry potter ride going to be a rollercoaster? Rollercoasters scare me as I don't do drops very well, big drops, little drops are okay. I'd love to see what's inside on the ride but not if it's scary. What do you all think?

It's not a coaster per say. It's what is known as a "robocoaster", manufactured by a company called KUKA. http://www.kuka-robotics.com/en/products/

So far, all of the robocoasters have been fixed position arms that move around while the riders wear goggles that play a video, kind of like a simulator. For this one, the arm is bigger, more dynamic, and attached to a carriage that moves through the building and the different scenes. Beyond that, little is known. Some people have ridden this week as they are attempting to soft open the ride, but they are having some major technical difficulties. Seems the cars work fine when testing without riders, but the arms have issues once people get on board.

I see. So it can definitely drop a good distance depending on the arm size. I was wondering if it would be like the Simpson's ride and Universal Studio or what. As long as I don't hear anything about crazy big drops I'll try it.

Sucks about the issues but at least they're figuring it out now before the big june opening.

Video from Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey's queue. There are POV videos of the ride popping up all over since soft openings started, but they're all too dark to really tell what is going on.

Look's freaking awesome, but then again, I'm a theme park fanboy

OMG double post!

I know it's not a coaster, but I am freaking excited about the new World of Color show at California Adventure. In fact, I really like all the changes they are making to that park. I'm determined to get to Disneyland once they finish all the work they are doing in a couple years. Anyway, the show hasn't opened to the GP yet, but it has had several previews and videos of the show are starting to show up on youtube. It's getting nothing but extremely positive reviews, and it looks incredible. Think Fantasmic, but way, WAY bigger and with better special effects.

Make sure to watch the videos in fullscreen.

Part 3:

Apparently Bob Iger got his hands on the project, and is the reason why some classic Disney movies were not given a prominent role in the show, and why movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and the Pixar movies were. Regardless, WoC looks absolutely fantastic. I really like the Toy Story/Buzz Lightyear part.

how bad are the lines at kings dominion on saturdays? i havent been in like 5 years and was wondering if it would be worth it to try to go on a friday or monday or if saturday would be ok. i'd ideally like to get a few rides on all the coasters.

what kind of wait times would i be looking at for i305, volcano, fof, and dominator?

Honestly it's best to avoid going there or to any park on a Saturday. I only go then if there is absolutely no other option.

Made it to Carowinds last Friday and got several rides in on Intimidator. That ride absolutely towers over pretty much everything in the park. It was a great addition in my opinion. I'm a big fan of the B&M hypers (especially when riding in the back seat), and this was no exception. I don't think it tops Afterburn/Top Gun (best invert I've ridden) as my fav in the park, but it's close.

And gg to Carowinds for running 2-3 trains on all their coasters. Longest wait of the day was 20 minutes for Nighthawk. Afterburn was a walk-on all day, as was Intimidator for most of the afternoon. Also got my first ride on Carolina Cobra (it was at GL when I visited several years ago, but I wasn't tall enough to ride). I really like what Vekoma did with the new trains.

And finally, Kennywood opened up Sky Rocket today, which I plan on riding sometime in early August. I'm pretty excited about this one considering how often KW installs new coasters.

So excited.. Going to Holiday World next Thursday for the first time since 2006 to ride the best coaster in the world. The plan was to go with the new trains on Voyage, but they won't be ready until at least August. Not gonna complain about getting some final rides on the PTCs though just in case the Timberliners hurt the ride.

Then the next Monday will be Kennywood and Sky Rocket.

I don't see how the timberliners would hurt anything . . .

I really need to get up there and ride that beast.

Rode Intimidator at Carowinds today. I wasn't really impressed, though it's easily the best ride there.

You must not like airtime . . .

Do you like loops more or something?

Airtime is great, I didn't feel like there was that much airtime though. I guess I'm spoiled from Cedar Point. Millenium Force is 10x better to me.

Fair enough.

Don't know where in the train you rode, but the back is where all the ejector airtime is. If you rode there and there wasn't much, then something was wrong.

Yeah I rode in the very back. Maybe there was a problem?

But I still think it's the best ride there. Nighthawk being closed was pretty disappointing also.

Nighthawk being closed is a blessing Well, the only thing bad about it being closed is that all those folks that aren't standing in line for it are everywhere else in the park.

You really should ride Intimidator during some ERT. I've had several rides where neither the trims or the mid-course engaged

They better turn the trims off for ERT at C3 like they did at Stock.

So those that have ridden both: which intimidator is better, KD or Carowinds?

I have a ticket to one of the parks, my choice. Trying to decide between the two parks. The roller coasters are really the only criterion. Though I may spend some time on a water slide or two. I have not been on the Carolina Cobra yet or either of the intimidators.

The Volcano at KD is one of my favorite coasters I've been on so that is the only thing making me lean towards to KD. But if you guys think that the Carolina Cobra and/or Carowinds intimidator is something I should def check out then... I'll like any advice you got.

The Carowinds Intimidator is by far the better one, especially now that the one at Kings Dominion has that ridiculous trim on it. Carolina Cobra sucks ass though.

^You like Carowinds Intimidator more than Millennium?

Carolina Cobra is nothing special. It would have been nice if they had made the beginning of it a launch instead of pulling you up the hill backwards.

I do, but I can see why someone would like Millennium better. I thought you were saying that Millennium had more airtime, though, which it definitely does not. O GOD coaster nerd debate.

Besides, who needs Millennium Force when you've got

Just now saw this. I think you're comparing two different types of rides with MF and Intimidator. MF is all about height and speed, and every once in a while if you're sitting in the right seat, there is the possibility of major floater air. I also think that MF has the greatest first drop of any roller coaster that I've ever been on. Intimidator is an extremely solid, airtime-filled coaster. Both are great though.

^Magnum makes me but not as much as
