A++ for Daniel Shanks (Jackson) making a guest appearance in the next episode. While I acknowledge Universe is kind of it's own breed of Stargate series, I like that they are at least trying marginally to tie it in with the other previous series.

The main characters are pretty much just Eli (nerd kid), Rush (nerd arrogant scientist), and Colonel Young (means serious business most of the time, not a lot of emotion) imo. Every episode focuses around them in some way.

TJ, Lt. Scott, Greer, and Cloe probably are the secondary tier of characters.

There are a few other secondary characters, but frankly they haven't really been in enough episodes for me to care to remember what their names are.

I totally disagree honestly. the show's dynamic is totally different than sg1/atlantis. i really can't imagine teal'c being stuck on that ship. daniel jackson's skill set is pointless and carter couldn't do what rush/eli do. it's too serious of a matter for o'neill. actually, the show is way too serious for the atlantis cast, maybe ronon dex but that just wouldn't make any sense

^ Agreed. The nature of Universe is not as fast-paced as the other series were. Universe is a dryer, dimmer, and more dramatic venture. Take any of the cast from the other series and put them on Destiny and it'd get boring rather quickly. Outside of Jack wanting to blow everything up for whatever reason.

The show is more of a drama than a sci fi. They're trying to ride out the BSG coattails. Only problem is that for a drama to succeed you need interesting characters. Other than Eli and rush, everyone else is pretty boring. The colonel is ok i guess. Hes kind of a military guy who's career dead ended on whatever planet they were originally on.

Aside from them you've got:
the Lt guy
angry military hispanic stereotype
chick whos dad died because they were all too stupid to close a door
annoying IOA representitive
TJ(whos name i can only remember b/c shes hot, even though her character is completely forgettable (lol preggers))
the chick w/ the tits.

If they all died i would give no fucks. In fact i continue to hope that most of them get killed because they are just so goddamned boring.

McKay and Carter would have the ship off autopilot and in semi functioning order by now. Daniel would have probably died already once by now. O'Neill would phone it in from the SGC. And then you have like 4 other characters all perfectly capable of exploring the far side of the universe in classic SG fashion.

SGU will probably get picked up for the simple reason that scifi doesn't have any other shows. Well, maybe caprica, but thats pretty meh as well. Both of these are far more drama than scifi, and where SGU apparently doesn't have the writting staff to do decent drama, they should fall back on the classic stargate that did so well for 10 goddamn years.

yeah, the second half is much better than the first. They're actually using the stones sensibly in the show now (not over using them as a plot device and actually using them correctly "hey instead of random person x switching bodies, why not a subject matter expert on Ancients/FTL"

^ no not really. the ship was in FTL and didn't show up on his remote thing. the ship dropped out of FTL and showed up. he knew the path in which the ship was going and eli has proven himself to be smart enough to follow the planets' stargates to get within gate distance. not that miraculous.
