how about in the South Carolina game (i think thats the game)...TJ Graham might've gotten a return TD, but he was horsecollared...was that an accident? no he did it on purpose because it prevented the touchdown...he potentially could've fucked up graham's neck, but he did it anyway, on purpose, because it probably saved a touchdown...was i mad at the horsecollar? no...i was just mad that the refs didnt throw the flag for the horsecollar

besides, chop blocking somebody's knees and potentially ending their career is hardly ever accidental...you have to block, do you block high or low?

i still dont know why this is such a big deal...maybe some of you have different expectations for what is generally accepted by the players themselves

but when the Georgia player himself says it wasnt a big deal, and that he's surprised its been such a big story, and that he doesnt think he shouldve been suspended...what more do you people need to agree with him?

and again...i'm not saying its right, or going for somebody's eyes is in good sportsmanship or anything to that effect...i'm simply saying its a part of the game, and i got over it a looooooooooooooooooong time ago

Pretty sure its 15 yards for all facemasks now

Which is dumb IMO, since in the past, if you barely touched someone's mask, you could pull your hand away and get only the 5 yarder and not give up an automatic first down

Now if you grab it at all, you might as well pull them down by it, since you're going to get 15 yards either way

point still is that some people will intentionally grab your facemask if they dont think they can get ahold of any other part of you

you do dirty shit if it helps prevent touchdowns or is somehow beneficial...if you're an o-lineman you will tackle a fucking defensive end and take the holding call if the alternative is your quarterback getting completely leveled...if limiting a ball carrier's vision gives your team a better chance to win, jab him in the eye

If someone is beat for a 60 yard pass, just grab the guy's jersey or trip him, and you just saved 45 yards

Pulling a facemask is 15 yards.

Intentionally pulling a facemask after the play is over on a pile-up is a flagrant foul.

I think it's pretty clear that football is governed by rules. Those rules are setup such that the participants will attempt to abide by them in most circumstances. Accidnetal violation of the rules should be penalized within the rules of the game and the consequences should stay within that game. However flagrant disregard of the rules and other player's safety should have stiffer consequences.

sports are governed by rules...they also know the rules will get broken...therefore they have penalties (fouls in basketball, etc)...which means, you can break the rules without getting thrown out of the game (for the most part), but if we see you break those rules, we'll penalize you (give other team free throws, give other team automatic 1st down), etc...its all about whether or not the refs see it, since all these are judgment calls

in that sense, reaching in someone's helmet at their eyes, offensive holding, defensive pass interference, are all the same...against the rules, but if you get caught, your team gets penalized

no. there are rules to have structure, organization, fairness, and safety in regards to normal playing of football, within a game. when those rules are broken, there is a penalty, in the form of a flag along with a change in YTG and occasionally clock-runoffs. There are also rules that go above the normal aspects of the game. These rules often incorporate safety, above that of normal play, and sportsmanship. In no way is holding a guy and trying to poke his eyes out the same.

Spikes suspends himself for the whole game now

Urban is deflecting attention by saying the refs hit Tebow late on one play and publicly commented on the call and said they sent into the officiating office. This comes right on the heels of the SEC saying they would fine and suspend coaches for commenting on the refs. I hope they nail him on this one to set a precedent or it will just tell all the other coaches that there is a double standard involved here.

I really, really hate Urban Meyer and I hope he is found out to be a worthless POS sooner than later. The guy gives me the used car salesman feel and his best attribute is manipulation. I have a feeling he will come back to earth after his cash cow Tebow departs.

there are a ton of rules in football that make no sense

grounding the ball to stop the clock always is a good debate

i think a whole game suspension was warranted (even if it was self imposed). i think this is more fair. will be interesting to see if meyer gets suspended now for the ref comment
