I doubt anyone would play through every game in one of these packs. I suppose that as long as you play maybe half a dozen or so of them, it'll be worth it.

God fucking damnit.

I didn't want to buy shit from the Steam sale this year.

I've already bought...

Mass Effect 2
Dead Space
Mirror's Edge (already beat it, thank god it was 5 dollars)
Trine
The Witcher

AND NOW I'M THINKING ABOUT THE THQ PACK BECAUSE HOLYSHIT THAT'S A LOT OF GOOD GAMES.

Someone convince me otherwise.

i'm always lookin for some cheap games that can be played on a LAN when a group of friends of mine get together to play some games. any of those seem good for that? Overlord sounds like it might be, and i guess for 4.50 its worth the risk.

THQ pack to totally worth $50. Red Faction Guerrilla, Metro 2033, just to top it off! They are worth about the price of the pack alone.

Along with Red Faction guerrilla and Metro, which are awesome as mentioned above, Dawn of War games are fun as hell. Company of Heroes is an amazing game. Saints row 2 is great fun if you like GTA (It's more like older GTA's like SA or VC). Stalker is fun once you get mods for it, etc.

There's no reason not to get the THQ pack unless you just can't afford it.

Any great old games for sale that would play well on my netbook? It runs midtown madness and halflife1 at full resolution like a champ. A shooter, or perhaps a racing game?

some of those old jedi knight games would run, probably Jedi Outcast or Jedi Academy, they're pretty fun.

the original Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II is too old and ugly for yours

And for straight shooter I just realized the first few Call of Duty games would run well too

bought King's Bounty. this game is frustratingly fun. Half the shit on the first level you can't beat. You have to scrap your way around the game fighting shit that your capable of beating then come back beat shit in your starting area.

Hahaha so awesome, I just KNEW they were gonna put GTAIV as one of their daily specials! So glad I didn't buy it at $15 now.

Also for people on old PCs or netbooks, the Commandos pack is a must at $3.75, if you like sneaking around and blowing shit up, or killing Nazis in general. I'd consider it for a nostalgia trip alone but I'd never have time to play through it with all the other games I have now.

Red Faction Guerrilla is great fun for $5, worth it just to see stuff blow up.

Torchlight is great as a Diablo clone, I like it and I don't even really like Diablo. Only think keeping it from greatness is lack of multiplayer.

Flatout and Shatter both look like great fun for really cheap.

So I'm getting the THQ pack. I can't justify a reason not to get it.

Guys, Mass Effect 2 is back on sale. If you can run it, I heavily suggest it. It's been really fun so far.

I keep telling myself I do not need to get the THQ pack, but its probably the best deal on there, hell Metro 2033 is that much alone...

Every Thief game is awesome.

Unfortunately I can hardly play Thief 1 now... I'm so accustomed to shiny modern graphics that I can barely tell what is happening on the screen.

Also, wtf is with the warning below all the games being sold:

I've played 40 hours of GTA IV since about a week ago and I'm nowhere near done with the game.

Incredible amount of entertainment for $5, getting bogged down finishing up my degree and not playing games much for the past year or two has really paid off in terms of the price drops on all the good stuff I've missed.

I figured that MORE games at this point from the THQ pack would just be too many games than I could want to play for no real reason. So I bought The Witcher and GTAIV and assumed I'd be good to go.

Alien Swarm FREE on monday only.

Quote :
"On Monday, July 19th Alien Swarm is going to be released for free via Steam. In addition to the game, Valve will also release the complete code base for Alien Swarm. This includes updates to the Source engine SDK and full Steamworks integration. If you’ve ever thought about developing a mod on the Source engine with Steamworks, this release provides more insight and examples for using Steamworks in game production."

I wanted to buy Dirt 2 while it was on sale for $14, but I failed and now it is $40 again! Does Steam hold sales drives often, or was July 4th unusual?

It's possible, you can buy the game as a gift and send it to someone else's steam account.

But I guess you'd have to trust him that he would actually give it to you.

Dave is right, Alien Swarm is a free game for good, not just Monday.

Also, did anybody see the story on PC sales?

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=256691p

It basically says that almost half of PCs game sales are now digital and Steam is the #1 digital distributor. No duh.

I question that, revenue would be a better measure. Quite a large chunk of Steam's sales have been old games on sale.

The free stuff got me into steam.

I bought my NVIDIA card from new egg last year. Came with a free copy of batman from steam.

Downloaded it and liked steam for the most part. I've probably spent some decent change their since then. I'd say the free stuff probably pays for itself in the long run.

I've actually become a pretty big fan of the Steam model. The interface is simple, they have a streamlined interface, they allow you to load onto any machine (even get Mac versions of PC games you've already bought), etc. The only lingering question I have is what happens the day Steam dies or drastically changes its business model? Then I'll miss my hard copies.
