Way more than $1M is being swindled out of gullible people by charlatans who claim to do magic, dousing, crystal healing, snake oil, etc. These people are evil. Psychic investigators who delay real detectives from finding missing persons. Assholes like John Edward who claim they can speak to lost love ones.

The amount of money in the account is irrelevant. The fact that NO ONE has been able to falsifiably prove using a test of their OWN DESIGN anything supernatural, mystical, magical or otherwise is good enough proof for me that none of it exists. If God or whatever appears and proves he's God, then I'll change my tune. Same for aliens and unicorns and whatever else.

Listen...I'll be honest with you...I pretty much live in a fantasy land. I see unicorns on a daily basis. Mermaids are real and breaking out into perfect song and dance is a common occurance. Living in my world is pretty much awesome.

Just watch any Disney fairy tale and you can see what my world looks like.

So, if magic is going to be defined as "some shit that goes on that we can't readily explain," then sure, magic has existed and probably still does exist in some way. Just because humans don't have an explanation for some phenomenon doesn't mean it doesn't have a natural explanation. People tend to have the view that we know most of what there is to know. In my opinion, we haven't even scratched the surface.

The burden of proof for non-falsifiable claims is on those making them. Like those who make the argument that you should believe in a particular god because supernatural beings can't be disproved, and it is better to be safe than sorry (this is an idea I've heard preached in Sunday School & at church on more than one occasion), but how do you use that to narrow down which god to believe in? Maybe there are good reasons to believe in something of that nature, but because it can't be disproved isn't one of them.

And just going off anecdotal evidence argument, I've got just as much reason to believe that Zeus and Hera are actually married as I do that there are people alive today who practice magic by making pacts with devil.

When these threads happen, people sit around arguing about the nature of confirmation and scientific theories, the domain of science, etc.

There's a ton of literature that involves actual, careful thought about these issues ... but rather than read any of them ,people come in here to make the same stupid ass mistakes and air the same misconceptions over and over again.
