Not necessarily. My parents knew two white folks (unrelated) named Monique and Juan, pronounced "Moni-cue" and "Ju-ann." Atrocious naming defies racial barriers. 1/15/2010 7:33:42 PM

That is my ex's last name. Surprisingly, I've not heard a lot of people mispronounce it (except I still sometimes say du-MOSS, but his family's pronunciation is DO-miss) 3/31/2012 12:01:59 AM

My cashier earlier today at Target was Xzavier. Put that motherfucker across a triple word score tile.
Also, I know an old fighter pilot named Jake Elwood. He's old enough to predate the Blues Brothers, though.
...and my cousin (grew up next door to me) had a girl in his class in elementary school class named Urine (Yoo-Ryne). 3/31/2012 11:48:04 PM

that is phucking awesome. I would have gotten away with murder in class in HS if there had been a kid in class with a name phonetically indistinguishable from the F-word. 3/31/2012 11:54:23 PM

Interesting. That's my great-grandparents' last name and they always said it as du-MOSS. Wonder if it depends on where in the US they live.
