reading this made me feel a little better:

Quote :
"In an increasingly multi-platform-al (a word) media environment, being on basic cable isn’t quite the kids’ table it used to be, and the lack of network pressure on TBS and its basic-cableness in general might allow Conan and his writers unprecedented freedom on the show, an assuredly positive thing. With a concentrated web presence and a little more rope from a station that’ll be thrilled to have him in any capacity, Conan may thrive like never before, especially riding his current wave of intensely positive buzz and fan support.

On the downside, basic cable is still basic cable, so Conan automatically loses casual viewers and casual ratings points, and will never officially be going up against Leno and Letterman, for whatever that’s worth status-wise. Plus, the fact that his show’s absurdity was occurring on network tv in front of some portion of bewildered random tv-spectators was part of the allure; absurd shows on basic cable — the home of Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, FX, etc — are commonplace, which certainly alters the show’s identity (though for sure, the “NBC doesn’t care about us or give us any budget” dynamic should transition seamlessly into “Now I’m on basic cable”).

Still, after the initial surprise at this news (especially in the wake of Fox rumors earlier today), there’s no reason to judge the situation until we see some episodes. Obviously, if fans show Conan’s TBS show one tenth of the support he received during the NBC Tonight Show fiasco, he’ll be fine. Or in other words, he’ll be fine."

I got tickets for the SanFran Friday show next week. Super excited. I'll report back here if there is any news on the TBS situation divulged that's worth sharing.

no reason to get upset. Conan has "fuck you" money and enough A list friends that this will work just fine. Now he has the freedom to do whatever he wants and no pressure on him. The more I think about it, the more i think this is brilliant

the difference being Conan still works for his laughs where Stewart's audience laughs at every voice and face he makes making the pace of the Daily Show hard to watch

Hmm, he plays guitar. And has a giant inflatable dragon.

It's worth noting that Jay Leno has never spent a dime he makes from the Tonight Show. All his cars, houses and Leer jet were paid for with live stand-up appearances that he does every week. He and Conan both seem to have the work ethic of machines.

Just got back from the show at Radio City Music Hall and oh my goodness it was fantastic. Colbert and Jon Stewart showed up for a dance off. Vampire Weekend was there to play a song with Conan and then Bill Hader, Jon Kaminsky and Paul Rudd helped pull the "Chuck Norris Rural Officer Handle". Totally worth the trip to NYC.

it was really funny when he was talking about how stupid it was to care about asteroids hitting the earth when we have other problems to deal with

and then they dropped an asteroid on him

but i don't credit that to andy richter

This is the funniest thing I've heard all day.

http://www.wwtdd.com/2010/06/leno-has-lower-ratings-than-conan-did

Quote :
"When NBC fired Conan O’Brien, they said his numbers sucked and Letterman was beating him and they were losing money. So they replaced him with Jay Leno. The bad news is that Leno gets even lower numbers than Conan did. The badder news is that Lenos comeback numbers have dropped and now he doesn’t beat Letterman either. So if NBC’s plan was to piss away 200 million dollars on a complete clusterfuck, mission accomplished!"

Conan O'Brien and his team of writers are Emmy nominated for the final episode

http://www.popeater.com/2010/07/08/conan-obrien-tonight-show-emmy/

oh, and of course Jay Leno wasn't nominated for anything.

actually, according to this one it was 4 total http://www.mediaite.com/online/conans-tonight-show-scores-emmy-nominations-lenos-tonight-show-doesnt/ the full list of nominees is 39 pages long, and I only saw the one...anywho. Go CoCo!
