if you feel like you need a weapon to defend yourself from people already convicted and imprisoned

this thread makes me lol

as do all those saying "yeah you just need a gun to make you feel safe- I don't need one because I'm a badass and I don't have a small penis and yadda yadda yadda you are just a weiney for wanting to protect yourself and your property"

I am seeing some wrong sides to this argument posted on both sides, but the pro-CC'ers are actually pulling out more evidence and info here, and not just posting their high and mighty attitudes about the situation (although that is happening too- just being backed up)

y'all really should just move back to any one of the many topics designated for concealed carry, etc and get back to the crazy ruffian we have running around campus

No, really. It's one of the few (psychological) reasons to punish.

Rehabilitation - Reform these people

Incapacitation - Seclude them from society, so that they can't hurt others.

Deterrence / Prevention - Showing that there are consequences for this 'bad' behavior. Deterring them from doing it again. Deter others from doing it.

Restoration - Pay back to society what they took. Usually works with minor offenses.

Retribution - Getting even. This really has no benefit (maybe to he who was wronged... but whatever).

Education - Dur.

Denunciation - Society expressing contempt for a crime.

^^^I actually hadn't seen your last post before I posted mine

but I do have something to say about this:

I am obviously not worried about those clowns. It has just been shown on many occasions that prison can turn people who were just petty criminals into full out problems to society, especially given our (societies) outlook on them upon their release- it is hard for them to find any real work or get any chances that a non-convicted person gets, and thus makes it easier for them to return to a life of crime (add into that the current economic situations...)

these people aren't kept in jail forever and are being released, and I'm not saying I want to go around and round them up or shoot someone I see stealing a candy bar- but if someone does bust into my house or approaches me with some sort of weapon, I'd like to use my 2nd amendment right in the process of defending myself. Yes, I think it would be much cooler if I could learn some sort of karate and ninja kick his teeth in, but I don't have the time to do that.

Nope. Incapacitation. To protect the rest of the world from them in the case that they can't be rehabilitated...
