You need to find a good traditional recipe if you want to make your own. Shouldn't be to hard to make it nice enough.
Granted, I have never made my own, and don't plan on ever making it since I can buy it fresh (and authentic and cheap) whenever I want. 2/23/2010 7:10:52 PM |

When I make it, I always use soy sauce and a little bit of fresh ground cumin. 2/23/2010 7:11:47 PM |

I DONT KNOW!!! Apparently I'm not the only one though. 3 other people at the table chimed that the same thing happens to them when they make it which makes me feel better because it can't be just me (for once) 2/23/2010 7:12:54 PM |

i couldn't quite get the texture right, it wasn't smooth enough despite spending what seemed like an eternity in the food processor 2/23/2010 7:20:58 PM |

Practice makes perfect

If you use canned beans sure, but dried beans are so cheap, and fresh beans from the garden are even better. All you have to do to clean your blades is let it soak in some soapy water with your pots. Rinse and done! 2/23/2010 9:04:41 PM |

funny thing is I not a big fan of chickpeas but one time I put a bunch in a freezer bag and put in some minced garlic, lemon, and some other stuff I forget and mashed it up really good, it was kind of like hummus. 2/23/2010 9:10:16 PM |

made this simple one and it was so so good and easy and it keeps forever
Quote : | "Hummus Recipe
Ingredients
* 4 garlic cloves, minced and then mashed * 2 15-oz cans of garbanzo beans (chickpeas), drained and rinsed * 2/3 cup of tahini (roasted, not raw) * 1/3 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice * 1/2 cup water * 1/4 cup olive oil * 1/2 teaspoon of salt * Pine nuts (toasted) and parsley (chopped) for garnish
Method
1 In a food processor, combine the mashed garlic, garbanzo beans, tahini, lemon juice, 1/2 cup water, and olive oil. Process until smooth. Add salt, starting at a half a teaspoon, to taste." |
defense of canned beans:
Quote : | "This basic hummus recipe calls for using canned garbanzo beans. I've made hummus using dried beans, soaking them, cooking them, etc. but the results just weren't as good. The canned beans actually mash up pretty well." |

anyone that eats at Cheesecake Factory is a fatty, that place has the most disturbing nutrition facts in the world.
Sabra has some good single serving cups of hummus that I got from Costco. So nice and convenient. 9/13/2010 10:06:24 PM |
