I have nothing to say about Scotland, as I have never been. I did however try some Oban recently, after somebody suggested it to me. I wanted to branch out from the macallan, which is all I've had in the past year really.

Not the best I've had, but not a bad alternative either.

Oban is decent, but not a favorite. Had a lot of it in the Highlands where it was more than likely always going to be on the shelf.

Went backpacking last weekend. The Macallan cask strength kept me warm all weekend.

The 18-year is fantastic; it's the best special occasion bottle I have right now. I actually like it better than the 25-year Macallan. But yeah, even the 12-year is great.

On the way home from South Africa, I took advantage of the duty-free to pick up a litre of the Glenlivet Nadurra and a litre of Glengoyne 17-year for less than it would have cost to get 750-ml bottles of each here in the US. Woot.

Do you guys have some suggestions for online Scotch retailers in the US? I'm trying to find a Bruichladdich Waves miniature bottle, but would settle for miniature Rocks as well.

Just got these two in the mail yesterday:

and

Though I actually got Cask 48, not 47. Bottled in 2007, and one of only 245 bottles.

http://www.masterofmalt.com/ had the 48, and that was the only source I found for any of the Canto casks I was interested in. Just tried it, and it's fantastic.

That site is hella expensive on shipping for the first bottle, but the additional shipping is reasonable for each bottle after that. They have a massive selection and also do samples, so it's worth it if you want a few things in one order. Plus, it's fast; my order went from the U.K. to my door in California in five days.
