i wonder if all the multiplayer shenanigans we already have and still do deal wih on MW1&2 will be present in full force.. some crap just seems inescapable... as much as i'd like to have hope in a new game, i'm gettin tired of spending $40-60 dollar bux for more of the same old lag, cheats and glitches, not to mention idiotic matchmaking systems that have yet to catch Halo 2, which while revolutionary still wasn't perfect by any means

I honestly hated Halo 3's match-making system. The system tries overly hard to create an equal skill level match. This has a few problems.

- Sometimes its fun to have some n00bs in the match to pwn.
- Sometimes I need to have my ass kicked as a catalyst to improve my own game.
- The match making system solely creates the game based on the signed in account. Thus any casual players that are split-screening with the game owner are going to always be frustrated at getting anhilated if their host is even an adept moderately good player.
- The Halo 3 system provides incentive for gamers to create "new accounts" solely to reset their skill level.

with dedicated servers confirmed, i'll probably be playing this on PC competitively again...let's see how it works when it comes out. i own bfbc2, mw2, and cod4 on both pc and xbox - what a waste of money! and now i'll be adding black ops to that list as well...

these are some shady business tactics
1) they are releasing map packs on the DAY OF game release - hardened and prestige will have 4 extra co-op maps. that's fucked up.
2) xbox players, which are the BULK of their players, don't even get a hardened option for $80. it's either standard for $60 or prestige for $150 if you want the 4 maps and couldn't care less about a radio controlled toy car. IT'S MADE BY A TOY MANUFACTURER PEOPLE...NOT THE MILITARY.

so for PS3 users, buying these 4 maps is in essence just like buying a map pack a few months later - it's like $20 more. but for xbox users, i don't see any options yet that say it'll be available for download on xbox live. so in essence, the map pack and a toy (like the kind you get at the bottom of a cereal box) costs an xbox user $90. since the car is fucking pointless anyways, each map costs you $22.50, more than a PS3 user is paying for all 4 maps combined.

i will definitely be picking up the PC version and saying fuck you to console gaming in november.

If I've done my reading correctly those maps are for mutliplayer co-op...not multiplayer versus...so who really gives a fuck?

Yea I just found some more info and everything I am finding is leading me to believe that they are in fact only going to be co-op maps. If that's the case to hell with it I will save the extra couple of bucks.

I put $5 down on it at Best Buy and asked about and gift card promotion and the cashier looked at me like 'dude you kidding' and politely there is no gift card promotion for Black ops. the only gift card promotion I found is online and you have to buy Black Ops + 4000 MS points card to get a $20 gift card. I feel like the cashier made a mistake by giving whoever in this thread said that they got a $20 gift card just for pre-ordering.

There is a hardened edition for Xbox. And the four co-op maps are just the 4 zombie maps from World at War...not really worth 20 bucks in my opinion.

well they've promised dedicated servers on PC which most likely means we will have competitive mods out for those servers. raping face in pubs is really just so disorganized and pointless to me - i'm much more of a team-oriented player. and so i've been just biding my time pubbing over the past year til some game came out that would let me play competitively again. let's see what happens in a month though...
