i posted about this last night in the what are you thinking about thread and didn't get any bites. i really want a polaroid camera but one i can use obviously.

i read about them last night for like 2 hours AFTER i had taken sleeping pills and was reading with like one eye open.

anyway. what kind do i get? i mean they are for sale all over the place...craigslist, thrift stores, the flea market. i just want one that i can still find film for via ebay or whatever. i know project impossible also has film but i want the cheapest/most reasonable film and a polaroid < $50. not trying to modify it (unless it is a super easy modification) or get like a collector's camera. i just want one that works. do i need to get one that takes pack film? is that like the film that fujifilm still makes?

i just want to know what model to get that is < $50 and has film easily available via ebay or wherever else you procure film for these things.

i was thinking maybe Joie or d7freestyler could help a sister out.

the ones that are readily available seem to be the 600 series ones, the spectra series, and some hunter green one from like, the 90s. but i don't know all the film deets/drama.

600 series are readily available, that's what we have. spectras are pretty easy to come by too. just be ready to pony up for some film. if you want legit polaroid film it's running 30-50 dollars a pack (10 pics) on ebay since they quit making it. spectra film can be found for 25-40 dollars a pack on ebay. then there's the impossible project - $23-25 for 8 photos.

i'd recommend just getting a 35mm camera or 120 camera from a cost perspective and coolness factor. polaroids are cool, but you've got to know what you're getting into with the film costs.

*sorry it took so long to respond... didn't see this.

Got the test roll of film back from my Ansco Memar today. A few of the shots turned out pretty cool. I'll scan some in and post tomorrow.

Well, before I shot my first test roll I didn't know the Memar had estimated focusing, so I thought the focus was broken. You have to estimate shutter speed (which only goes from 1/25s to 1/200s) and aperture (f/2.8-f/16) too which wasn't bad. So most of my pictures ended up out of focus, but a few were really cool.

Pretty cool for a camera made somewhere between '53 and '58.

Here's another:

From the second roll from the Memar... I actually knew how to focus this time, although it's still pretty difficult.

Holgas are hipster? That sucks, I've had one for several years now...at least I still hate trucker hats.

I have a roll of film from my Holga that has been sitting on my desk for about a year that needs to be sent in to be developed. I've totally forgotten what is on there. Does anyone else ever do this? I think it's kind of fun, never know what you are going to get back in the mail.

I like your film pics God.

That roll was a test one so I didn't do anything crazy that I'd regret losing. And it worked except I opened the back thinking it was rolled all the way and so therefore got the leak.

Any recs on a good negative scanner? Might get the bf one for christmas

ok i am really bad at scanning color negatives, but this is what i've come up with so far. a couple random shots of my gf and some skater kids:

oh and these are edited a bit. didn't read the first post until now.

I removed dust and toned them some. this is really close to what the scanner put out though with the scanner settings i was using.

I could edit them in a darkroom, so I can do it in Lightroom

I haven't had anything developed from the Zenza Bronica ETRS yet, my normal developing place won't do 120mm BW

I do have some Holga skate shots but I haven't figured out how to scan 120 yet.

How are you scanninin the sprockets?
I just a new scanner so I can scan in my medium format pics (before i had a true blue flim scanner that only dis alides and 35mm)....i am assuming I can just put the 35mm in the 120 frame to scan????

I have tried scanning this with a cheap film scanner and with a little more quality flatbed scanner, and I was not happy with the results. IN fact, i was not happy with the scans that came from when i sent this out for developing. RVP is a slide film so i could look at the film itself and tell that the scanners were not getting what I was seeing. So I rigged up this contraption consisting of my 60D with 50 f/1.4, a few macro extension rings, an IKEA lamp, and a speedlite. I used the USB interface to trigger the camera and to adjust the flash output so I did not have to disturb the setup. I think the film itself is still more vibrant, but the results are much closer to what my eyes see.

[Edited on April 24, 2012 at 10:54 AM. Reason : i recently got a 35mm back for a 120 camera and it *should expose the whole film.even the sprockets!]

Just did my first b/w developing tonight. It was pretty fun. I'm stunned that the negatives came out so clearly. I was certain I'd fucked it up when I opened the canister before putting in the fixer. I eyeballed the measurements and times too, because I didn't have a graduated cylinder and was half paying attention.
