Three of the 16 knockout games in 2006 ended in penalties
And no one likes penalties, so you can pick another aspect to troll 6/13/2010 5:57:08 PM |

So you admit the sport is fundamentally flawed in its structure - and you still follow it.
Interesting. 6/13/2010 6:00:41 PM |

no different than stuff like the stupid NFL overtime rules they've been debating about for years, or the flawed college football championships, or rules people don't agree with in any sport...I mean come on, you can find aspects of any popular sport out there that a lot of fans don't like. 6/13/2010 6:02:50 PM |

and since no one reads the last post:
Quote : | "most games come down to penalty kicks? I know you're trolling but for other people who might be foolish enough to believe you: in the 16 knockout round games at the 2006 WC, only 3 came down to penalty kicks I think and in 2002 only 2 of those 16 games ended in penalty kicks. There were also 64 goals scored over all the games I'm mentioning as well. The knockout round is a different dynamic. " |
anyway. For those who don't know, the whole process is a pretty cool thing. 205 teams started out in 2007 looking to win the World Cup. The world is divided into 6 "regions" that have their own several-round and 2-3 year long tournament to determine who gets the region's allotted spots in the final tournament (the WC). Wikipedia says that there were 848 matches in the big qualification tournaments, resulting in almost 2400 goals.
