I could see the fact that y'all just did the friend thing for so long might make it more difficult for him to make an initial move. Personally, I don't think I'd have a problem doing it.

^^ That's definitely not the case. We've made out before. Many times. He's a little too smooth for that to be the case. And he's 43 years old. That would just be weird.

^ Haha. That's like the guys who pretend to be gay and say, "I've never been with a woman before. But you're making me change my mind."

I dated a girl for about a month (had sexual relations), it wasn't the right time for either one of us, so we cooled things off. We started going out again about 5 or 6 months ago and I was a little hesitant to make the first move again.

It wasn't quite the dire situation that yours seems to be, but I did hold back a little at first because I didn't know if she was still wary about dating me.

That sounds very similar to my situation. Time to go for it, I suppose? I was worried that he just wasn't that into me.

Perhaps he has performance issues so he isnt looking to move things into the bedroom for fear you will be like wtf and stop going out with him. It's at least a good sign on your part that he is willing to continue going out with you without having gotten any.

If it doesnt work out I may be in Florida for a bowl game in December

Better yet, just grab his crotch while you're out. Then he'll know you mean business. Skip the kissing business, that obviously didn't get you anywhere the first time.

^^^^ Just being insecure. Making the first move is scary!

My prob is that I keep comparing myself to his ex, who was younger than me, prettier than me, smart and an amazing athlete. Stupid insecurities!

I have a tendency to date guys who are out of my league, and then I get intimidated and second guess myself about everything. UGH!

Now you know how guys feel most of the time. Alcohol lowers insecurity a good deal...

And I'm not going to argue about being insecure about dating the guy, but you shouldn't be insecure about hooking up with him. You're attractive and in good shape, so although you might think his ex is superior, there's no doubt you pass his qualifications to mess around.

^ you just told her that she is fuckable. I'd take that as an insult to some degree. Its like saying he might not give a shit about you but he'd probably stick his dick in ya.

She's the one that's insecure about his ex-girlfriend. I'm just telling her that the guy isn't going to turn her down if she tries to kiss him. I'm not going to make any other assumptions.

I mean...every guy is different, but if the guy shared my mentality, then he likes you a lot.

First, I rarely ask a girl out on a date unless I'm very interested. I'm not going to waste money on someone if I just want to sleep with them. I'll try and go the cheap route, and if that doesn't work, then I just don't worry about it. And if the girl gets second and third dates, then I really like her.

However, there are guys that will spend money go the extra mile just to get in someone's pants. But if he was trying to do that, he most likely would have made a move by now. Especially with him being as old as fuck. At that age, he should know what he's doing by now.

Very valid point. It prob is just the fact that we dated before. And we have several close, mutual friends who live at our old condo complex. And they notice when my car is there. And they would definitely notice if my car didn't leave for a while. And they would DEFINITELY have something to say if it stayed parked their overnight.

People are nosy!

^^ I only say that because I hate when they ask personal questions that are none of their business. If I'm dating someone, it's my business, not theirs. And these neighbors get a little too nosy. That's all.

^ His ex is a former professional athlete who's in med school. She's definitely got it going on. And she's gorgeous to boot. So yeah, definitely a little bit of insecurity there. And the lack of physical attention definitely raises a spark of insecurity. That's all. It's so dumb to compare yourself to an ex, but it happens.

But you said they are "close friends." So either you can talk to them about it or they should be a good enough "friend" to where you can tell them "no comment" and they'll be fine about it. I still fail to see why this is an issue.

^You seem like a reasonable person, so you should get over that. If he liked her so much, they would still be dating. Or if she dumped him, then either he's over it or he needs to get over it...but it's not your problem. Everyone is a little insecure about themselves, which is okay, but you can't be insecure about something you can't control (like his ex).

Very valid points on both issues. They are close friends. And I usually do say, "No comment," when people ask personal questions like that. It's just an annoyance.

I'm overthinking this. Thanks, jbrick. Very, very good advice. You rock!

^ Wow. Relax, guy. This thread veered from the original topic a long time ago. It kind of turned into a catchall dating thread.

I've always gone by that rule (at least when she tries to pay, I'm like, "but I made us come here"). Although I'll usually at least pay for half if she picks. It doesn't help that I pick the place 90% of the time.

Eh...I always try to pay since I'm the guy. Unless the girl throws a fit and really wants to pay, then knock yourself out.
