You know what, I agree with Quagmire (sort of).
I've never bought a beer at a sporting event, because I've just never wanted to pay that much for beer I don't like. I wouldn't buy a Bud Lite at a bar, so why would I at a stadium? If I've ever been buzzed at a sporting event, I was buzzed when I got there or brought in some of those small "airplane bottles" of liquor to mix with soda.
I consider myself a beer snob also, but I don't turn from "mainstream" beers just because they are popular (my favorite mainstream beers are Killian's and pretty much whatever Sam Adams seasonal is out), I simply don't enjoy most of them. I will, however, gladly pay for an over-priced chick-fil-a sandwich or pizza or whatever when I get hongry at a game.
That's my 2 cents. And srsly, that dance was kinda hot. 11/4/2010 11:20:27 AM |

these aren't my favorites, but i do love me some sam adams seasonals and i will almost always buy them a couple of times during their run
but now that i've said that, people will mistakenly turn "paying $10 for a miller lite makes you stupid" into "you're a hypocrite because you like sam adams" or some such thing
fwiw, i'd consider budweiser, coors, and miller a completely different class of "mainstream" beer than beers like killians, sam adams, yuengling, guinness, [insert non-microbrew here], etc11/4/2010 11:25:06 AM |

for the record, I never order bud light, miller, or amstel light in bars anymore. it was fine and dandy when I lived in Raleigh and was dirt poor, but I just don't like them enough when there are better beers available for typically the same price (or within a dollar or two).
that said.... I drank half a dozen 18oz amstel lights at the canes-rangers game. I didn't even consider some of the "higher-end" beers they sold there, because those were equally nasty to me as the bud-light and amstel. 11/4/2010 12:22:24 PM |

am not! I like plenty of beers, but typically don't choose light ones such as miller, bud, or coors. Then again, why pay $6 for one here when I can get a sam adams or yeungling for the same price? I enjoy those much more than miller or bud. 11/4/2010 12:25:26 PM |

true- when I go out drinking, I either have a few good beers or whatever is on special. I find it funny when people start saying miller is better than coors, but as long as it isn't bud, rabble rabble rabble. There are slight differences in tastes there, but not by much 11/4/2010 12:27:03 PM |

Most (not all) beer snobs like Quag I've known were losers in high school and didn't start drinking until they were 23. They try to counter the past by being a "beer snob" that only "likes microbrews" but they still make a slight face when they drink them.

That has a horrible mischaracterization. I dont find that to be the case at all, but maybe I'm older. I don't binge that often anymore and I like good beers. It stands to reason I won't be casually drinking two or three Coors.. On the other hand I'm not going to pound twelve Hennepins..11/4/2010 2:11:57 PM |

haha, okay...i've been allowed to drink at home since before i was in high school, but good try
do i make a face when i drink my own home brews, too? the pale ale i made for my wedding was amazing, but i'm sure i could just barely hold it down, eh? everyone else had a hard time not making faces, too, but i appreciate how kind they were (and the fact that i only had about 1 gallon out of 9 left after the rehearsal dinner)
Quote : | "I do think it's a little pathetic if you purchase more than one beer at a sporting event at such an absurd price, but really that's me being a pennypincher, not a beer snob." |
that's kind of my point, though...if you're NOT a pennypincher and CHOOSE to drink pisswater instead of spending the extra money on something that doesn't suck, then you have horrible taste in beer...if you ARE a pennypincher and still feel the need to buy pisswater at exorbitant prices, then you probably have a drinking problem AND/OR have trouble with peer pressure
Quote : | "coming from a guy who, as far as I can tell, hasn't even tasted one yet." |
i have not tried one, yet...i've yet to meet anyone IRL who thought they were worth drinking (and many on this forum who would agree), so why would i waste my time and money, and drink something that LIKELY isn't even tasty? again, i have better things to spend MY money on because i'm not looking for a quick and cheap buzz...i'll taste one eventually or not

I don't really enjoy the company of people who are so elitist that they can't handle the taste of a light beer (especially at a sporting event), but to each their own.
