My uncle and his boyfriend both openly hate faggots.

They are both bodybuilder/power lifter types. They despise feminine and flaming men. There was ice skating on TV once and he said something like, "Look at these faggots. Turn this queer shit off." My father and I both looked at each other a little confused.

I originally thought it was a term okay if used by an actual homosexual. Kinda like black guys calling each other niggers. But they were using it in a hateful way, not as a term of endearment.

I'm not well versed on gay culture, but I suppose there are different factions of homosexuals who feud with each other? Similar to the United Atheist Alliance vs Allied Atheist Alliance vs Unified Atheist League who have the same common beliefs, but different ways of going about it.

Faggot is an interesting case of word ownership. I know lots of gays that use "fag" freely but will go to war on a straight man saying "don't be a fag". It is a very interesting phenomenon that is seen in many minority groups, but black people unfairly get most of the negative attention from it.
