I'm not sure such a thing exists at this point. WFU is nowhere near FSU or Clemson, but we have a miraculous ability to say "Oh hey, we're still in it for Atlantic division title!....Aw, fuck it, let's shit the bed...I don't feel like playing in another game anyhow."11/9/2010 9:32:35 AM |

I vote NO on looking ahead past this game. Admiral Ackbar would have something to say about doing such a thing and if we shit the bed again...our "get to a super awesome fun time bowl game" hopes would be ruined. 11/9/2010 10:10:35 AM |

Who knows what team will show up on the field. The team that can beat any other team in the NCAA - but only for a quarter, the team that is average, or the team that is an embarrassment to the sport.
We should win it, so I guess I'll put us down for a loss. 11/9/2010 12:17:00 PM |

If we don't win this one we don't deserve a bowl game. That being said I think we'll win handily.
NCSU: 33 WFU: 13
Wake Forest average starting position: 40 yard line If Cjakowski was our starter despite a near-complete inability to get a touchback, I am scared about his backups. They're either going to be kicking off to the 25, or nailing touchbacks but putting every third one out of bounds. 11/10/2010 3:01:01 PM |

The game kicks off at 2 p.m. and will also be broadcast online at ESPN3.com.
Time Warner Cable and ESPN recently worked out a deal which allows cable subscribers in the Raleigh market to watch the games online. You have to register at timewarnercable.com to watch the game online. Go to "my services" to get a log-in and password (it's free for Time Warner customers who have ESPN as a part of their cable package). " |

http://blogs.clarionledger.com/um/2010/11/10/for-ole-miss-placekicker-rose-dreams-once-included-n-c-state/
Quote : | "OXFORD — Often, the story of how a placekicker winds up being a household name to fans at a certain school is fairly interesting. These guys usually wind up at schools at walk-ons, so their recruitment isn’t like the ones we read about so often with the stars and the verbals and the hype. Enter Bryson Rose, who has emerged from a guy who once thought he’d be playing at N.C. State to a guy who has become quite the consistent kicker for Ole Miss.
We’ll have more on Rose in Thursday’s Clarion-Ledger. But here’s the gist:
Rose
Rose grew up playing soccer in Raleigh, N.C., the home of North Carolina State. His father is a N.C. State alum. Rose said he got burned out on soccer by the time he got to Wakefield High School and started kicking for the high school team. He was a success. He was an all-conference and all-district kicker as a senior, when he hit field goals as long as 54 yards. (Alabama’s Jeremy Shelley played at a rival high school, too.)
Rose always thought he would wind up at N.C. State, but that fell through because the team didn’t need kickers. Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said Joe Pate, then the N.C. State director of football operations and an acquaintance of Nutt’s, alerted Nutt that Rose was available.
Rose had a liking for Ole Miss that dated to the days when Eli Manning was its quarterback. So he visited the school when it played Georgia in 2006. “(I) fell in love with the place,” Rose said, “and I decided I wanted to come play in the SEC.”
(Like many kickers, Rose plays golf. “Cool,” I thought Monday, as he did an interview. “Maybe I’ll challenge him and it’ll make for a good story.” So I asked what he normally shoots. Turns out he’ a “high 70s, low 80s” man. Hmph. I was a high 70s man in my best days, back when I played almost every day. Not now; I haven’t played since July 18. So, I think I’ll let that story idea die. Keep breaking 80, Bryson.)
Rose is 14-of-16 in the field goal department this year and has made every one of his 36 extra points. His Rebels (4-5, 1-4 SEC) visit Tennessee (3-6, 0-5) Saturday at 11 a.m. " |
we could use him right about now.11/10/2010 6:36:05 PM |

When has State not needed a kicker for the last several years?
On a side note to recruiters: http://drchighschoolblog.dentonrc.com/archives/2010/10/denton-at-ryan-first-half.html
Keep your eye on this Denton guy.
Quote : | "4:58 Q2: The Broncos can't go anywhere on that drive as Hudspeth is dropped for a five yard loss by Jonny Paramore on 3rd down to bring up a 4th and 15. Bad goes to worse as Denton completely shanks the punt. It goes straight up in the air and goes out of bounds at the Bronco 12. That's a negative three yard punt. Yikes. " |

Have we ever had an elite kicker, like a Sam Swank (sp?), Jad Dean, etc?
We've always hovered around having above average to below average, but I can't remember any time in the past 12 years that our kicking game has really been the difference (for the better) in a game for us. 11/11/2010 9:36:16 AM |

Kicker and Punter are probably the hardest positions to recruit, since most good high teams rarely kick or punt
Look at the NFL...most of the good kickers and punters are from no name schools 11/11/2010 9:39:41 AM |

There is a kickoff after every score. We could start by just finding kids that can consistently put it 5 deep in high school. And kids that really want to make it in college will be sending in film to try and get a look. If a punter can put the spiral on it, get good hang time, and have a decent frame, he should get a scholly.11/11/2010 10:27:25 AM |
