Look I don't give a shit if people look at my dong, but I do care if the government can limit my ability to travel based on ridiculous commands and violations of the 4th Amendment

The gov't shouldn't demand, essentially, that you strip each time you move locations

On the subject of the constitution, should I be able to bring my legally registered firearm on board an airplane?

too bad.

seriously though, if I wasn't brown, I would choose the pat down, and act like i was getting off on the procedure to make the TSA goons as uncomfortable as possible. However, being that those morons might think I'm an arab, I'd probably end up getting disappeared.

Life's dangerous. Do you want to suspend the constitution's protections everywhere cowards like you piss yourself?

I'm curious; since we're all about making our airways and cities safer against attack via plane, do we force wealthy aristocrats with private jets to be subjected to these security measures? Legit curiosity

Oh except it doesn't

It'd be "safer" to allow law enforcement full access to all of your personal info including your personal communications. Should we do that too?

The name of the game, from a sensible planner, is intervening to decrease the probability of incident

All this does is increase the probability some corporation is making more US-LaftaBux on marketing the gov't technology it doesn't need

Depends on the private terminal's regulations. I know the one at RDU you basically just get waved with a wand and that's it, if that.

Do you seriously not see the difference?

Not to play devil's advocate (well, maybe)...

a) If you can opt out of the scanner and get patted down, its not really mandatory.
b) If you know you must do these things to travel via airplane out of certain airports, why not just avoid those airports or travel another way?
c) If we're talking about constitutional issues... if the airports/airlines are private (yes, with government interference however), don't they have the right to certain things like I do in my own home? Like saying no guns or get off my lawn?

All that being said, I travel fairly often for work and I have to deal with these measures on a regular basis. While its a pain in the butt and does bring up valid privacy concerns, I tend to agree that if it helps ensure safety (even if its just because of a placebo affect), its not that bad.

Haven't seen anything that that says you will get cancer from them... only that you might. Just like if you fly in the first place:

Yet again you reveal your deep desire to lick the cock and balls of your rich overlords

If the point is that airplanes can be used as weapons against public, freestanding structures, then these motherfuckers need the same screening procedures ANYBODY does

Part of the reason bullshit regulations like this are allowed to inconvenience us (read: the normal, small person) is because it has literally no effect on those with money, power, and influence. Shit just doesn't apply.

you aint gotta fly man, you got options THIS IS AMERICA

you can take a boat, you can drive, or you can befriend a rich overlord and fly in his private jet.

According to this article, Israel had the problem solved 50 years ago. Their solution does sound worlds smarter. Too bad it relies on having more than just trained monkeys working for airport security.

(a) Subject yourself to this physical invasion of privacy and you can opt out of getting your naked body imaged!
(b) This is obvious a test-phase; if they can, they'll roll them out to each airport they can. Company gots to get paid.
(c) Depends quite a lot on what the nature of the business is. Also, the screening is domain of the TSA, not some private company.

So because you get exposed to radiation in the plane, that makes it okay to expose yourself to even more radiation for these security scans?

Considering that very little research has gone into the effects these scanners have on your body, especially if you are someone who travels frequently, I personally would not be comfortable with going through them.

I'll stick with my car and Amtrak until there's a couple years of a track record for these things built up or they stop use of them because the Supreme Court says they violate the 4th amendment.

That's obviously not ENOUGH bomb sniffing dogs. I am serious, we should have like 10 times the number of bomb sniffing dogs in the airport, and they should get to run around and sniff for bombs. They point at you, THEN you get searched. I feel like there's at least a legitimacy to it at that point (even if there are false positives).

But then The NAACP etc would claim the dogs were being trained to racially profile....

PS - I'd be super pissed if someone was trying to frisk my 3 year old daughter. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, protective dad mode

IMO women wouldn't be worried about it that way. most women are at least a little insecure about their bodies. the thought of some jerk with a cloth badge checking out my muffin top just makes me cringe.

^^^^ Basically Amtrak has the sole rights to the track that that train runs on. For regional trains, they are renting the track from the freight train companies that own the track, so the freight trains get priority. That's why Amtrak trains running in NC have a habit of being late, Norfolk Southern basically dicks them over constantly.
