^The only way you could really do something is if you were standing on the bridge next to them like the one guy was when he grabbed the girl. By the time the cops, coast guard, or camera man could get there, it would be too late. Because of that, you might as well stand back and make some money off of a documentary.

What is amazing is that someone actually survived the fall.

Here is another good documentary that involves a suicide. The guy who lost the fight ran his car into a ditch on purpose.

^ Saw that on HBO. The guy plastered his gloves and removed most of the padding so he was basically being hit with a cast. IIRC, he like tore something in Collins' iris and the doctors told him that if he took another hard hit, he'd likely go blind. Ruined his career and he subsequently killed himself.

His boxing coach was a straight up piece of trash...but I don't believe for a second that Resto didn't know what was going on as he claims in the documentary

^Actually he did say near the end that he knew his corner had tampered with his gloves before the fight. He finally told the truth to his children.

yeah, holy shit to the guy who jumped and survived. His dad wasn't even phased about it, just surprised his son lived.

how many of the jumpers from 'The Bridge' were caught on tape up close though? half a dozen or less?

There are plenty of time lapse camera shots, where you basically just see a splash in the water...THOSE particular jumpers were simply caught on timelapse video...whereas the one at the beginning was filmed because they were filming the guy kitesurfing

but it also seems like much of the footage of the people who jump where you can actually see them climbing over the rail, etc is people down at water level, or basically people who are too far away to do anything

UPDATE - Turns out this asshole had been arrested and released on bail for molesting/raping his 9 year old granddaughter. Decided to off himself.

Seems like this is the cliche story to vilify all people.
It's like in the Salem days, you could kill someone and say "Oh. uhh... he was just a witch." and everyone would move on.

I know many media outlets don't report suicides at all. When I worked at WRAL they would possibly announce a "situation" where police were involved. I guess they don't want people thinking they can get all sorts of media attention through suicide.

I work at Wake Forest Baptist in Winston- and a few weeks ago this 20 year old girl who was unaffiliated with the hospital decided to jump off of the top of the parking deck at 8am and landed in the hospital daycare driveway just as many parents were arriving to work and dropping off their children. Probably two dozen children and parents witnessed her land and she almost landed on one parents car waiting to turn in the driveway.
For days one child in my sons classroom talked about seeing the girl fall from the sky. When we got there she was covered up- so thankfully my son didn't have to see anything.

^^true. I read once that when news outlets report suicides the suicide rate increases. So they tend to only report famous suicides
