i usually only get pepporoni or pineapples and jalepenos from PJ's... that should not make for a soggy, undercooked pizza

sure they can; and they do. the fact that it seems so systematically undercooked indicates they probably have their oven too low or the belt too fast. and my point was that i usually get just two toppings, but even when i've eaten supremes from other places it is not soggy.12/21/2010 3:04:57 PM |

That's me. The only reason anyone got Gumby's was because they didn't have enough money to get pizza from somewhere else. I still remember their pizzas - the crust was so wide that it looked like whitewall car tire. The amount of sauce/cheese/toppings on an 18" pizza translated to about a 10" pizza anywhere else.
Also, put me in the category of people that think Papa John's is too sweet. Use about a cup less sugar in the recipe (per pizza) and I'll reconsider.

I remember it very well. I had family in the area, so I remember that place going waaaaaaaaaaay back. Maybe mid to late 80s, definitely early 90s. Every time we got pizza the family would always go there and load up a take out box from their buffet. It was like a $1.25 or something ridiculously cheap.

for the record, Megabite makes a decent pizza if you order it well done and the right guy is making it.
Agree with TKE-Teg that well done pizza's are better, especially when ordering from a crappy restaurant or delivery. 12/21/2010 3:29:40 PM |

It is clearly superior to other pizza places on Hillsborough.

dude, GTFO
i've had decent pizzas there when a group went in and ordered a fresh one, but the vast majority of business they do is with their cold, diamond-crust fly field pizza they leave sitting in the windows all day
and you better not be the first person in there in the morning because they definitely save all the pizzas overnight.12/21/2010 4:41:54 PM |

Village Inn Pizza!! The one in Hickory is still open. My parents had their first date there when they were in high school.
Suckiest pizza is Pizza Village in Whiteville, NC. This place has a cult following but it is disgusting. The pizza is literally like high school pizza and it makes CiCi's look gourmet.
I'm gonna have to agree that Domino's has gotten good. I really love their Pacific Veggie (add pineapples and pepperoni) on a thin crust.
I also LOVE Unthouchables Pizza in Denver, NC. Their dough is so salty which makes it amazing!
As for Papa John's, I have always thought their sauce tasted cheap and gross. Never eat there.

my turn my turn! my experience was a little different. when i was there i felt like the pizza was almost too rich. but i imagine thats because the ingredients were better quality! but on the same token i was 14-15 and everything is either too rich or too spicy 3/3/2011 4:13:27 PM |

Chuckie Cheese. Seriously that is some shit pizza, but my 3yr old daughter always wants to go there. I'd rather eat microwaved Totinos before eating pizza or any food from Chuckie Cheese. 3/3/2011 4:47:23 PM |

I was in Italy for several weeks two years back and although every pizza I had was good, there are two places in Charleston that make the exact same pizza...I use to work next door to one and have probably had a hundred of their pizzas. Maybe there just aren't any pizza places like that around Raleigh, but I'm sure there are more around the country. It's mostly in the oven and the ingredients...but it's not difficult.
And I'm not a pizza snob either. I can eat Dominos, Digiorno, or gourmet pizza. Pizza is like sex. When it's not good, it's still pizza[sex]. When it's great, well then it's great.3/3/2011 4:54:41 PM |

ive had some tasty pizza in italy but i wouldn't say its the best ever. America is allowed to take other countries inventions and improve upon them. It's not like the original has to be the freakin best. 3/3/2011 4:56:01 PM |
