I know there isnt a lot of "wear and tear" on players at this point in the season, but its nice to get a fresh Tracy Smith a couple games before the ACC season begins.

He gets a couple preseason type games (which it doesnt look like he needs after scoring 10 points in the first half) to work out the kinks and fit back into the system with the team, then he will be the freshest player on the court once we open our ACC sched.

I really would love for us to play Wisconsin, Syracuse or Georgetown again with Tracy in the lineup to see how much the outcome changes. I know thats stating the obvious

I know Smith is excited to be back, but I wonder if he's actually trying to get a technical

If I were him and got T'd up I'd be like "hey, this is my first game back from knee surgery, I'm scared to drop down from the rim, give me a break, sheesh"

We've looked really sloppy the past 5 minutes, Sidney just obviously can't get this team to stay focused for every second in a nooner on Jan 1st.

In fact I've seen no progress at all in nooners on holidays his whole career here.

I missed the game but this is kind of encouraging

Quote :
"Smith checked in at 15:12 and scored a basket the first time he touched the ball, 28 seconds later. He had two dunks, one in the first half and another in the second, where he needed a quick burst to get off the ground and the knee responded both times. Smith finished 7-of-12 from the floor and played 25 minutes.
As Lowe insisted in Smith's absence, the forward's presence made the rest of the offense better. Richard Howell, as he did last March, flourished when on the floor as the same time as Smith. Howell was aggressive on the glass (game-best 13 rebounds), generous with his post-to-post passing (five assists) and even rained a 3-pointer. The 3 inspired a standing ovation from the State bench."

except for the Howell making a 3 part

It was with 2 or 3 on the shot clock...otherwise I'd have been pissed that he shot it.

By the way...that shot didn't even sniff the rim. Thing of beauty.

if you watched the game, there was no problem with Howell taking that shot whatsoever...he was on fire on both ends of the court...thats the type of shot you don't normally take, unless you're just controlling the game...boxscore won't show that

nice vid, but i kinda wanted to see harrow's fake behind the back pass and layup on a break (i think against Tenn Tech) where he completely fooled the defender.

Reviving this StateOz quote cause I was at the game and missed it
Quote :
"I think if Lowe played Harrow/Brown/Leslie for 32-36 mins then they could have beat that team by more than 31. One of my biggest criticisms of Lowe is that he never plays all of his best players at the same time. He rarely played Costner/McCauley/Hickson at the same time, and he rarely plays Harrow/Brown/Leslie at the same time (although it does occur more frequently than the aforementioned three ever played together)."

First point you play those three at the same time all game long and where does your bench scoring come from? Also to this point Harrow/ Javi haven't done too much to distinguish themselves from each other. Harrow is a better scorer, Javi is a better defender, when harrow is in offense often stagnates because he is still lacking experience. IN POINT OF FACT HARROW WAS IN WHEN THE OFFENSE SLOWED DOWN AGAINST A&M and Lowe left him in to work through it.

Now for this juicy bit of idiocy:

Please tell me you are trolling. You want to run a team with 3 C/PF on the floor at the same time? You don't see how this might be a problem? Fucking idiot.

^^ Tracy Smith who can not hit a shot outside of 5' = SF you must be kidding right? When Smith Costner and Mccauley played together it forced Costner into playing SF which put him terribly out of position and is another reason why he sucked that year.

Furthermore he was talking about playing Costner, Mccauley and Hickson... Fucking stupid.

Harrow is a better player than Javi. Javi might have a slight edge on defense, but that's it. I attribute a lot of this stagnation you're talking about to my original point - Lowe needs to let Harrow/Brown/Leslie play together for most of the game. Now that Smith is back, if those 3 play along with him then I think State's offensive production will be much better. We know what Javi, Painter, Vandenberg, and C.J. Williams can do against ACC competition. Right now, I'd take the 3 freshmen over them, and it's not even a decision that needs much thought. This isn't little league, everyone doesn't play 2 innings and bat once. Lowe can start preparing his resume if he's trying to keep marginal players happy with playing time.

Quote :

I want Lowe to play his best players the majority of the time. We went 14-16 by not playing Costner/McCauley/Hickson at the same time. It couldn't have been much worse.

For this year, Harrow at the 1, Brown at the 2, Wood at the 3, Leslie at the 4, Smith at the 5. I cannot see what is wrong with that lineup. It might be a little small at times. You can insert Howell in for Wood and let Leslie move to the 3. As far as transition points go, Howell probably isn't going to play that big of a role anyways. These are the 5 (or 6) best players on the team, and they need to get the majority of the minutes. Javi needs to play 4-8 minutes a half to give Harrow and Brown a rest. Wood could also play the 2 instead of Brown. There's a lot of options with our depth, but we aren't going to have any success keeping the 3 freshmen from playing with each other and giving undeserved minutes to Painter/Vandenberg/Williams/etc. If our players can't play 32-36 minutes a game then that's an indictment on their preparation in practice, and I would hold Lowe completely responsible for that.

You really think Hickson, Mccauley, Costner would have been a good thing on the floor together? Really? Also to think that you throw an undersized freshman pg into the game from day one is stupid (there is a definite learning curve and you really want to avoid destroying his confidence by tossing him in sink or swim style). I think he will eventually grow into a better player but at this point he is just starting to scratch the surface of his capabilities. So far he has shown he has trouble running a college team and recognizing different defenses (you throw a zone at harrow and he freezes). He has been causing some offensive stagnation when he has been in (against lesser opponents he has been allowed to play through it). He is a much better scorer than a passer and often tries to make the flashy and 1 move when a simple pass would work better.
This early in the season Lowe is trying to give everyone as much experience as possible. Leslie tonight was a prime example. Imagine if this was a legit team and we had been forced to play Howell for extended minutes when he was used to getting 5 minutes a game. What if one of your 5 players getting 35+ minutes is injured or in foul trouble? Fuck getting everyone some experience I want to blow teams out by 40+ points and wear the freshman out before the season even starts.

seeing as you are incapable of reading comprehension I will lay it out for you:

Tracy Smith is a center in college just like Hickson was. I was obviously clowning on you for saying playing 3 post players wouldn't work when it did (not to great effect, but what has worked that well in the last 5 years? we were better with that line up than we were with Smith coming off the bench) all of one year later

There were a lot of other factors that went into us possibly playing slightly better with the lineup you mentioned. However as I mentioned before your statement is irrelevant. To think that Costner, Mccauley and Hickson were the best options that year is retarded. Especially considering that Costner was recovering from an injury and was playing pretty terribly that year (poor shooting and turning the ball over). However, please don't let these FACTS get in the way of making retarded arguments though

I really don't think adder understands the difference between facts and opinions, he keeps labeling his opinions on things as facts or as a "point of fact" without providing any actual evidence that what he's saying is true.

Was Costner fairly ineffective the year in question? He was shooting poorly, and turnover prone. These are all FACTS not opinions. They are backed up by his stats (He shot the lowest percentage of anyone averaging over 20 mins a game and had a bunch of turnovers). Don't take my word for it look it up. So yeah I would consider that FACT...

In other words suck my dick emo bitch.

FACT: adder is a fucking moron

see how easy that is?

You posted a bunch of nonsense about how that lineup wasn't more effective or it was more effective for a reason besides the personnel and call it a fact without anything backing up what you are saying.
