Those might not be the "taxes", but instead other fees associated with flying. Like, I wasn't charged tax on my Delta flights, but it was still +$28 for all the other charges -- airport fees, 9/11 security stuff, etc.

Looking to fly RDU to NYC (LGA or JFK) March 16-19. Should I go ahead and jump on the $180 flights now or hold out for a lower price?

With the exception of those last minute fares, 180 is about the best price you can get to NYC from rdu. Maybe you can get down to 150, but its unlikely. Its a pretty heavily purchased flight.

Apparently some federal taxes and fees on tickets haven't been applicable since Saturday due to slow passage of an FAA funding bill...but looks like the airlines have just kept overall prices the same and increased profit.

Anyone know of a website where you can just search deals (especially last minute deals) with flights from RDU? I have no particular destination in mind but just want to see if there are any deals out there.

searched, hasn't been mentioned, but in terms of international flights on multiple carriers finding interesting ways to schedule, vayama.com destroyed kayak.

granted, i've only ever used it for asia, but still.

^^ Yeah Kayak's search function for when you're doing multi-city hopping isn't too great. It's best for single city itineraries it seems like.

What's the cheapest way to get flights from RDU to vegas this summer? Around the end of June would be preferable.

^If you're going to Vegas, the cheapest flights are going to be all-inclusive packages with Hotel stays.

Sign up for the hotel mailing lists that you're interested in and keep tabs on the offers they send you.

And for jen, about last minute cheap flights from a particular airport to anywhere, Bing Travel is about the best for that. There used to be some cool last minute deal tools on Orbitz and priceline, but they are gone.

For RDU departures.

staying for four nights. would love to be close to tourist attractions for my mother and within a reasonable distance to night life. Price not terribly important, probably upper mid range.

The girlfriend is a local and UW alum and she said Alexis Hotel is pretty nice, she likes it.

Everything touristy is within walking distance. I live over in Silverdale, WA which is across the water and we just take a ferry over and walk around everywhere. Fuck driving in Seattle.

[Edited on January 31, 2012 at 10:26 PM. Reason : Ferry drops you off at pier 51 which is right at the safeco and centurylink]

Look at the boutique hotels if you're willing to spend a little more.

Ace Hotel, Alexis (as mentioned), The Paramount, Vintage Park, Monaco.

Also like the SilverCloud hotels (there are 4 in Seattle). Each one is located in a different area of town that depending on your interests can work really well (The Broadway location is right in Cap. Hill, which has great nightlife).

We took AirTran RDU-SEA this past July. Since I work for a travel agency, they offered me a travel agent rate on the flights. Roundtrip for two was $545.60.

Right now all I'm finding is $450+ roundtrip for one person. And really it's more like $550+ because the cheaper ones have wacky flight times or are going to require I drive out to Gboro. I don't know why the hell my friend chose peak season to have a destination wedding when pretty much everyone she knows can't afford peak season tickets.

Is it cheaper to fly into Portland? It's like a 2 hour drive from Portland-Seattle and you could try and find a cheap rental car?

I don't have the time for a two hour drive unfortunately. Just checked and flights are more expensive going into Portland. I have a super limited amount of time I'm allowed to take from work because it's the busiest time of year for me.

I'd be flying out July 12th, any time is fine for that, and then flying back July 15th, but I can't really do a red eye since I have to be at work Monday morning. I guess worst case I could go directly from the airport to work but god that day would blow.

^^You can fly into Miami or FT Lauderdale and then rent a car and drive to Key West

^That's exactly what I did a couple of years ago.

RT SEA->EYW was like $480, while SEA->FLL was $140 RT. GSO->FLL was $120 RT.

The drive is really pretty fun, at least once you clear Miami.

^^Good luck with finding RDU->SEA flights for <$400, especially in the summer time. That's peak season for everything, especially SEA flights. And given that you have no flexibility around dates, there's pretty much no chance of finding a better deal.

Your only options are to leave out of Greensboro or Charlotte (US Air) where you might find a flight for $320-350.

^^ Yeah I'm pretty pissed at this person for having their wedding at this time. It'd be one thing if there was a reason for it, but when she was first planning she was like, "Oh I can have it whenever, what works for you guys?" her entire wedding party told her to make sure it wasn't during peak season, and then she goes and decides to have it during peak season

^Honestly, if the wedding is in Seattle, she didn't really have much of a choice. Summer goes June->Sept. But there's still rainy days in June and it starts turning colder in Sept.

So you basically have July or August, which is when the other 5 million tourists also come to Seattle.

But she's having the wedding indoors I don't think it matters when you have the wedding if 100% of it is inside lol.

Anyone ever book a multi-city flight to Australia? Looking for a cheap, but reliable option. Cheapoair is the cheapest, but I don't trust them. Going to a wedding in August and looking to go from Brisbane to Sydney to Melbourne and back to RDU...or some kind of combination of those cities. I might stick to Brisbane being the first stop because DFW has a direct flight there, which is more convenient than having a layover to get to LA then flying to Sydney.

Thanks...I hadn't heard of them before. It looks like they have some pretty good domestic flights ($59-70 not including luggage), but the RDU flight is still pretty pricey. Without the Australia flights, it's around $1700...with all the transfers, it's around $1800 so it might just be easier to go that route. I'll keep them in mind, though.

For multi city tickets it's sometimes best to go through a travel agent. I recommend Beeline Travel. Worth calling and seeing if they can find you something better.

Yeah a travel agent might be a good idea. I'm pretty sure I booked my Japan flight though Beeline and they were great. I'll check them out again. Anyone know when would be the best time to buy for a late August flight?

3.5 months out is generally when prices begin to go down but with international flights it gets more wonky.
