I always thought that the "we are broken up, we are back together, we are broken up..." relationships were over by the time you hit 25. If it's so hard to decide a ltr then it probably wasn't meant to be.. 7/18/2011 6:39:22 PM |

My thoughts exactly. If it's something bad enough to break up over, then it's probably not going to be fixed very easily, if at all. If it were that easy to fix... why break up over it at all? Plenty of others out there.7/18/2011 9:26:37 PM |

I mean I guess that's simplistic of me and just an opinion. But I knew right away when I had doubts, that was it. I don't know a single relationship that went like that that ended up healthy. Maybe I'm odd and it happens regularly? 7/18/2011 10:52:19 PM |

^^Well, I mean, how old are you? How many old people do you know well?
Cause when you're growing up as a kid, you don't really get the dirt on older people's relationships. Also, nobody really advertises their breaks and break-ups either...especially if they have kids.
But, yes, people over 25 go on breaks and break up....and then get back together.

for what reasons? How can that be fully resolved to make for a healthy relationship? Maybe they'd just be better suited with someone who they didn't have issues with... 7/19/2011 1:56:32 AM |

I feel like you and NyM410 may be arguing from a place where you assume other people are well-adjusted, rational people. That just isn't the case for many, many, many people.
And I'd guess temporary break-ups occur when one person has done something (once or repeatedly) that the other person cannot tolerate. Instead of talking it through for the billionth time or coming up with an action plan or whatever, they say: "Fuck you. Get out." or maybe "Fuck you. I'm leaving." Then, later, they talk it through and get back together.
And like when one party has been really, really unhappy or dissatisfied, and the other party thinks it's bullshit....leaving can really send a strong message to a neglectful partner of just how unhappy you are. Then you go to therapy, work together, and live happily ever after to raise your kids.
Also, it doesn't even have to be some dramatic thing. Just: "I don't want you coming around the kids when you're drunk." So they don't come around. Then they sober up, come around, and you're back together.
Sometimes, it just goes bad. The relationship is horrible. You both agree to get out. Then a few months later, after getting some perspective, you meet back up again, you're in better places emotionally or whatever, and you get back together. Of course, it could go horrible again.

I think I've figured it out. Remember when I went out with that notary public and he cheated on me and then Anastasia from upstairs told me about how her boyfriend cheated on her in the beginning then he totally changed and now they're married and crazy in love? Anastasia is the exception, not the rule. We have to stop listening to these stories because they rule is most guys who cheat on you up front don't really care about you very much. Exhibit A. Chad the drummer who lived in a storage space. He only used me for rides and yet I continued to stalk him for most of 1998. Then oh, um, there was Don, that broke up with me every Friday so that he could have his weekends free. I was delusional about that relationship. I used to refer to him as my husband to random people, like my dental hygienist. Anyway, all my friends used to tell me about how things might work out with these dipsticks because they knew someone, who knew someone, who dated a dipstick just like mine. That girl ended up getting married and living happily ever after. That the exception and we're not the exception we're the rule. 7/19/2011 9:03:15 AM |

Help me understand TWW...
Why do people dislike people who are too nice? I've seen this in relationships, which is why I'm asking it here, but like, yesterday I gave up my seat to an elderly woman on the bus who was having trouble walking (I was in the front) and moved to the back, and she glared at me the whole way. 7/20/2011 2:00:54 PM |

^She probably glared at you because you're a girl. Normally a guy would stand up. But if it's the engineering bus that wouldn't ever happen.

I've had a couple of guys give me their seat on the Engineering bus. Usually they just let me go in front of them anyway when we boarded the bus, so we could avoid that whole situation. I hated having to stand on the bus though. I felt my ass was in everyone's face and was worried I would fall or something. 7/20/2011 2:15:45 PM |

She's not that old, actually, she just has a lot of trouble walking, I've seen her almost every time I'm on the bus, and she usually holds onto the bars while she's sitting down, and she was clutching the bar while she was looking around for a seat.
But why do people not want to date people who treat them well? This is a phenomenon I've never understood. Also, people who say they want to do things for you and don't. There are instances of this where it's totally understandable, but I don't understand people who say "Oh yeah, I meant to do this for you." I just said variations of "understand" three times in those sentences. I need more comphrehends or something.7/20/2011 2:58:10 PM |
