At least they all had renters insurance. Although there are some things that can't be replaced I have heard that all the pets seem to be accounted for (or seen running from the fire).

^that isnt true about this complex. Actually, none of the tenants i've talked actually had renters insurance. I just talked to Constance (the cat girl from the pictures), who said that she had just sat down with an insurance company this week, but hadnt signed the renters insurance forms

Renter's insurance (the basic plan) does not cover your property, but covers other's property in the case that you start a fire that destroys other people's things. Thus having renter's insurance does not guarantee you get compensation for destroyed personal property.

I just went and was looking at my own A/C unit, and discovered this. Not sure if this is hazardous or not, but it doenst look good. I sent this picture to my apt complex.

in her email back she said:

" The fire marshall did confirm it started at the disconnect box of the A/C unit. This means it was not a faulty device or anything of anyone's fault. "

^ That looks messy but it should be safe. The wires you see in the picture look like low voltage control wires spliced together. It's ghetto, but it shouldn't be dangerous.

I had no idea. I always thought I had the "basic" policy, and it includes compensation for all of my belongings up to $60,000 in addition to coverage for the premises. But I guess I'm just getting a good rate on a non-basic plan.

Shouldn't it be in a securely mounted junction box?

^^ AFAIK, you don't need to do that for low-voltage wiring.

I didn't realize you were saying it was low voltage wire. I can't tell from the pic...I was assuming it was 110v or 220v.

I'm sure that cat was thinking something along the lines of, "WTF ARE YOU PEOPLE DOING TO ME " lol.

That whole complex should be razed and replaced with something worth living in.
