Goldengirl might mean that the interpretations need to be done by competent people. Someone with knowledge as opposed to someone like me, the same reason I shouldn't be telling a crew how to build a bridge just because I found some blueprints. Full disclosure, I think organized religion is a terrifying thing and am not for it. Likes my water plain.

But who is competent in something "not of this world"?

I'd say no one, so a comparatively competent person? (I like your point)

"this is why there are so many factions in the protestant faith. too many people interpret scripture in their own words without knowing the culture/language/history of the time. They interpret it without any education or knowledge of the bible.
"

Since there are many ways to say this statement is not scriptural, I'll go ahead and use the most obvious implication.

1.Worldly knowledge and learning is necessary to understand the word of God.

"For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe."

1 Cor 1:21

"But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ."

1 Cor 2:14-16

"Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 40And you will not come to me, that you might have life. 41I receive not honor from men. 42But I know you, that you have not the love of God in you. 43I am come in my Father's name, and you receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him you will receive. 44How can you believe, which receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that comes from God only? 45Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuses you, even Moses, in whom you trust. 46For had you believed Moses, you would have believed me; for he wrote of me. 47But if you believe not his writings, how shall you believe my words?"

John 5

It is odd to say do not read scripture if you aren't "educated" in them. Especially when Jesus Christ is the Word of God made manifest in the flesh. Before Christ was manifest in the flesh he was the Word of God.

This is evident within creation, where God the Sovereign King, God the Word, and God the Holy Spirit all work to create the Earth.

Oh, same here. I'm an atheist (clearly) but was raised Catholic and self-identify as one. It's sort of a cultural/psychological-hangup kit of sorts, and even atheists can't scrape ALL of the mind-bending neurosis out.

So whenever I'm accused of "being angry" about the Catholic church, I'll say "that's about fucking right". I think you should look much more sceptically toward someone who REFUSES to be angry about what the Catholic church has done or been about in the past. Why should any group of evil men with evil intentions and boatloads of power get my sympathy, again?

Also: lol at protestants still thinking they're better or on "Firmer footing" than Catholics. Same absurdities at play, folks.

I think we all can sit here and argue about stuff all day long and just make Jesus look like a frustrated parent.

Ghandi once said:

Quote :
""I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ.""

WE DUN MESSED UP Y'ALL.

The cool thing is He still loves us and died for us and even if we want nothing to do with Him, He loves us wholly and completely 100%.

I remember being in a Mormon town in Idaho. I was very young (12?), and talking to some girls. One said, "Oh, that's Mary. You won't like her. She lets boys park their cars in her garage" ... I thought it was odd, because I didn't know what it meant.
