gotta look at all the various shot animations to see what your preferred shooting motion is...i think i have Dirk's jumpshot cause it seems to be the best for a release-at-the-pinnacle-of-the-jump, and i like a slower free throw motion...had Ray Allen's for a bit but it was too fast, especially when your FT ranking is relatively low

I can usually get 2+ steals per game by just jumping the passing lanes, either on inbounds passes after scoring or waiting for someone to pass it back to the guy i'm defending, but turnovers kill you, and i force the ball inside too often

Played the absolute shit out of this game over the weekend. 6'9" SF Tyler Rush, drafted by the Pacers, got in the lineup when Granger went down with an injury. Went off in my first start, 29 points, 5 reb., 5 ast., 2 blk. Probably the least efficient basketball player ever, though. Can't shoot for shit despite having ratings in the high 80s/low 90s (medium range is 97, I think). And I don't understand how a guy with my size is unable to dunk.

If you haven't already... make sure you invest in the abilities... especially fadeaway and post fadeaway.

Even with my shortass PG I can post up someone from just inside the 3pt line and get an A+ or A- look at anytime, depending on the defender's height.

You can also turn on Shot Quality Feedback and Shot stick Timing feedback to see if the game thinks the shot was a good look or not. 2k12 takes the road of a simulator though, so even though you can be maxed out and wide open they seem to make all players go through random hot and cold shooting sprees. Makes sense but I think it is annoying when I miss 2 looks and then the CPU hits back to back D+ contested 3's just because it tries to keep the game close.

First game of Manute Bol's 2nd season and I get a Dynamic Goal i've never seen before "Flex your Basketball IQ: Don't accrue a 'Bad Shot Selection' for the entire quarter (min 4 attempts)"

Granger comes back from injury and is getting like five minutes a game behind my 67-overall ass. We're trying to win here, Vogel, what the fuck. Slide me to the two, Dahntay Jones is worthless, and we'd have a shot at finishing > .500.

I play 12 minute quarters, but since I usually go for 10 steals a game I get in foul trouble and simulate through part of it while my guy is on the bench.

I've seen that a lot as an SF or PG, haven't seen it yet as a C though

i just made sure to take shots within 5' of the basket like I always do and I pass with flying colors

just switched to 12-minute quarters for at least this game, goal is 13 defensive rebounds...i think i have a good shot at the 5x5 this game as well as the triple double...got my 100th block last game which was 5000 SP and some other things, totally over 12,000 in one game, none key game...of course it was for mostly accomplishing goals, but 12,000+ in one game is ballin, after i applied the points i went from the 4th best center in the league to the 3rd best (can see that stuff on Player Card)

Turning up the difficulty to HOF makes my Bobcats team almost too bad at defense. I'm gonna set it at something in the middle and try and force multiple overtimes to get an insane scoring record.

How did Kobe drop 81 IRL wtf.

i'm midway through season 3, my 7'1" center is 91 overall. maxed out dunk, block, and something else that escapes me right now.

capped out many others, like steal (65), vertical (85), quickness (70). playing for the Thunder...trying to repeat as champs in season 3. in season two i won MVP, DPOY, and MIP. swept the heat in the finals, won finals MVP.

playing 8 minute quarters, and adjusted the sim quarters to 8 minutes as well so the production all matches up.

i should get a massive contract in the offseason, being 21 years old and 91 overall. i need to look at Durant's contact and Westbrook's too to see how much longer they have left. though i could always demand a trade if they walk.

i probably spend more time than i should playing this game, but i can't stop.

Vogel apparently does read TWW. I'm at the 2 and Granger is at the 3 and apparently there's not a SG in the league that I can contain. On top of that, Collison gets injured every other game and when he's healthy he's driving to the basket 30 times a game and getting stuffed more often than Tree's sister (treesista). We've lost five or six or twenty in a row and are just fucking awful. Lost by 30 to the Lakers. I'm scared to ask for a trade and end up in Milwaukee.

my favorite is when my 60-something point guard is supposed to guard a 90-something SG like Kobe

here is some media from my most recent game...10 minute quarters...the theme is "what happens when Earl Boykins goes up against a 7+ footer?"

it easy to get a free block when you're playing Earl Boykins' team and he has the ball with 3 seconds left in the first half

speaking of Earl Boykins, I'm sure K/Roy would love my 7'something center drawing a charge on a 5'5 guy...especially in the backcourt

i'm at 81 consecutive free throws...maybe i can finally get the 100 in a row challenge

Quote :

the most i've gotten in a game is 8...mainly by jumping inbounds passes or playing off my man and jumping the passing lane in anticipation...get burnt sometimes by it, but dont get in the the foul trouble of trying to steal it from the ballhandler

If your FT is maxed at 99 then you literally will never miss a FT in a simulated game.

I picked JJ redick's FT animation and that was a mistake, I got used to it by now but it is delayed so you release the stick after the shot goes up. Hopefully in 2 years I can have Scott Wood's FT animation.

my center's FT is capped at 95...i chose the 'athletic' mold though so maybe that has something to do with it?

the longest my FT streak went to was 77. i was pissed when i missed. rhymes.

yeah, mine is a Defensive Center...caps vary based on your build...you can probably increase your Vertical higher than I can, but I probably have one or two categories I can increase more than you (if neither has bought cap increases)

up to an 88 overall relatively quickly after the last few games on 10-minute quarters...getting a 5x5 gives you 5000 SP i think, i had over 12,000 after my last game

just maxed out Offensive Awareness and Defensive Awareness, those two stats always have a larger sway on your overall rating than any other stats, regardless of position

I got Athletic for my center too because physical stuff is the most expensive to raise anyway plus it's damn important. Vertical improves like 10 other stats.

my Speed is like a 37...I only boost it by doing the Dribbling Course, which is easy if you double tap turbo outside the arc for your juke move when you face the cardboard cutout of the defender

also i really really suck at rebounding for somebody my size...i think my single game high is 16 which was in a 12-minute game, but i don't think i'll ever sniff the 30 points 30 boards challenge...thats partially because if the ball gets inside I go for the block, but I am getting better at my timing...always been one of my weaknesses in the 2K games, at least from the center position...i can get 6-7 boards per game as a tall guard pretty easily, but with my big I average liek 8rpg in 40 minutes

I'm so terrible at rebounding in this game. as a 7 foot center with 95 vertical and 90 defenisve rebound I consistently get outrebounded by guards on my team when we go up for the same ball.

^^i was also traded to the Thunder. was drafted by the Knicks, Carmelo and Amare ate into my production and it pissed me off.

The Thunder traded Harden and Perkins for my player and the Knicks 1st round pick. though i had no issues with stars being benched because i was the only center on the roster.

^yes. it is really irritating when i'm the team's best rebounder (ability-wise) and Russel Westbrook skies over me for the rebound even when i'm in position for it. i would imagine in real life that would cause some friction among teammates.

not sure about every team, but i have noticed that players like Kobe, Lebron, Wade, and Durant never miss shots unless they're on your team. really irritating, especially if you are a guard and you try to play good defense on them. attempts are futile.

I did a pretty decent job of containing Lebron the other day and I'm awful at defense. Durant has been absolute dogshit coming off the bench.

My biggest gripe with this game (and I love love love it) is the wonky defensive switching ends up costing me skill points every game. There's always a possession or two where I'm playing whack a mole while my little blue arrow is jumping from player to player.

I like how if I come out of the game for 1.5 minutes and press the button to skip ahead, somehow the other team scores 14 straight points against us in 90 seconds.

Now I always let the game keep playing and just wait to come back in. It gives much better results.

Still trying to figure out the hidden factors that influence shot success... Been looking into this after missing so many wide open looks with maxed out stats. Things I'm guessing influence the shot success (Besides shot quality and player stats)

# of passes before the shot (favors moving the ball and running time of shot clock)
Leading or trailing the other team (favors trailing team, even if team is comp)
If you had an assist on the last possession (favors your next shot)
Player movement (with ball) before the shot (favors stationary, jab step good for this)
Shot variety (favors diversity)

with all abilities unlocked it is easy to get A+ Quality shots off everytime, and with 99 stats you would think more than 45% of shots would fall usually.

The game gives hints with the commentary about when to use certain moves... if you do a fadeaway while wideopen you might get an A quality shot (and they call it showboating) but if a defender is running up to contest you get an A+. Even though it doesn't make sense, the game rewards you for using the right moves at the right time. If you pump fake and get a defender off their feet, thats almost always a make.

I don't think the "being hot" icon does anything at all. If anything, since the game is trying to be a simulator, you will miss since it isn't normal for a player to go 4/4 or 5/5 and keep it going. Being "cold" though is actually good especially if you have good "consistency" it usually means your next shot is automatically going in (assuming good look).

I've found center and power forward are much easier to get an A+ with because setting screens are worth a lot of points, while they are worth almost nothing with guards.

Center is easier I think, but they are vastly different roles. I like PG more because I like to run the offense, and it frustrates me on my Center when they refuse to pass you the ball.

I think PG is more fun to play as, thats just me though.

I think the funnest part of the game is getting the steal at the top of the key, then running down for a Jordan dunk package insane dunk over the opponent PG, the shorter you are the sicker it looks.

Guards can score anywhere and easily get steals, but I think triple doubles are harder since rebounding and blocks are difficult.

Centers probably have way less key matchups though I assume? So you can simulate more games hopefully. It seems like every other team in the league has a "Star" point guard.

Nah you just get lamer star centers to get matched up with. Seriously I've got key matchups with Joakim Noah and Brooke Lopez.

If you get a high mid range shot rating with a center you can basically score any time you want, especially since a lot of the time they put a PG on you and you can shoot over him no problem.

Also I answer with the "give team the credit" option in every interview and get an A+ teammate rating every game, so my team passes me the ball instantly every time I ask for it.

Like most 2k vids it is just some black guy moron that likes to hear himself talk, but it makes a good point. The Speed value is pretty pointless, but I think they let the defenders catch up to avoid the "Just mash spin and layup/dunk problem" from the earlier 2ks.

peedrinking i have a couple wing players, a center and a PG...its nice to switch it up in case you wanna run the offense, be the scorer, or be the big man...its a good enough game where you can do that and enjoy any position depending on how you're feeling thats what she said
