Cider brined turkey: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Cider-Brined-and-Glazed-Turkey-233148 And I have to admit I have never made the glaze or gravy from that recipe Stuffing: http://nymag.com/listings/recipe/mushroom-hazelnut-stuffi/ My friend made it last year for Thanksgiving and said it was amazing.
And the bacon buns are in a very old Lithuanian cookbook given to me by my Lithuanian mother-in-law, so I'll have to dig it up when I get home and type it up here. They are full of bacony goodness!

Im planning on baking a turkey or whatever you call it...
but we are having about 25 people sunday and I am not sure a 13 lb turkey will be enough for all them.
should I make two? maybe fry one? 11/17/2011 5:40:55 PM

^Definitely make two, ESPECIALLY if want any leftovers.
Fuck we regularly cook 20+ pounds for 14 people. 11/17/2011 5:46:34 PM

If you don't want to do another turkey, add a ham or a boston butt. Also make sure you have plenty of sides and desert. 11/17/2011 5:59:15 PM

They say you should have 1.5 pounds of turkey for every person, so you're looking at a 38 pound bird or two 20 pound birds. When I used to organize a Thanksgiving dinner for 30 people, I would cook three smaller turkeys usually. 11/17/2011 6:23:51 PM

Netstorm All American 7547 Posts user info edit post |
^Yea, though if you know all the people and can make a call on it, you can go down to a pound per person. Either way, he should definitely add another turkey! 11/17/2011 6:27:44 PM

lol yeah considering when we only have 6 people at our dinner and usually do a 10-13 pound turkey, there's no way that's feeding 25 people. 11/17/2011 6:31:45 PM

Maybe it's just because of the sort of stuff I cook in the first place, but I really don't think my bill has been 13% more than it was last year. 11/20/2011 10:30:24 PM

THINGS YOU CAN ONLY SAY AT THANKSGIVING:
1. Talk about a huge breast! 2. Tying the legs together keeps the inside moist. 3. If I don't undo my pants, I'll burst! 4. Whew, that was one terrific spread! 5. I'm in the mood for a little dark meat. 6. Are you ready for seconds yet? 7. It’s a little dry; do you still want it? 8. Just wait your turn, you'll get some! 9. Don't play with your meat! 10. Just spread the legs open and stuff it in. 11. Do you think you’ll be able to handle all of these people at once? 12. You still have a little bit on your chin. 13. I didn’t expect everyone to come all at once! 14. How long will it take after you stick it in? 15. You’ll know it’s ready when it pops up! 11/20/2011 11:02:20 PM

So Trader Joe's was a fucking mad house yesterday of people buying up goods for Thanksgiving. They were almost completely out of cream of mushroom soup and were already sold out of shallots. I got one of the last things of fresh sage. Looked like they were going to be out of pumpkin by today as well. 11/22/2011 8:58:12 AM

Cranberry sauce done, turkey is stuffed with its veggies, brussel sprouts halved and ready for roasting, veggies for stuffing sauteed, table set and ready. Just need to make mashed potatoes tomorrow. Relatives bringing desserts and other sides. I think this is the most on the ball I've ever been for Thanksgiving. Still debating making cornbread but I think we'll have plenty of food as is. 11/23/2011 8:53:42 PM

ya, i dont think i will ever host thanksgiving, you need to clean before, then cook, then host, you're the last to get to sit down, you cant leave, and then when its all said and done, you have to clean up again before you go to sleep, never doing that 11/23/2011 9:40:20 PM

That was a fine tradition that fell by the wayside. I know saps mentioned it at one point in a "why don't we do that anymore" kind of way. It would be fun to get that back in gear again, and we have a fine house for gathering. I dunno about this year though... 11/23/2011 10:10:03 PM
