Record this motherfucker.

You can try to do it secretly at first but after you get a couple of actionable gems (like him calling you "bitch") I vote you openly hold out the recorder every time he talks to you. When he asks about it say you're documenting his hostile behavior for HR. That should shut him the fuck up.

Sarah, I worked with a girl at my first job who did the SAME things to me. She would undermine me and tell me I was dumb. She would tell me I had bad taste in clothes and she didn't because she was rich (her parents had money), she started rumors about me to other employees. I would talk to our boss but it never got better so finally I went to HR. HR did the dumbest thing and brought her into the room with me and of course she denied everything saying that she wasn't "ignoring" me she was just "shy" and that I made it hard on her because my boss liked me so much and gave me so much responsibility. So of course HR was like "well we really can't do anything because it sounds like she feels threatened by you."

I finally had it and quit one morning. I think others have given you good advice. Make sure you have all your ducks in a row. I like the hypothetical questions to HR that someone mentioned. Just continue to be polite or ignore him as much as possible until this can get sorted out. Maybe you can ask to move to a different area or a diffent team and not have to sit near him anymore.

haven't read the whole thread, but I wish you the best sawahash... this guy sounds like a terrible person to work with.

I don't know if it has been addressed, but I would be VERY careful about recording any conversation. Some companies have policies against recording co-workers, and if so, that could lead you into trouble. (I know someone who's coworker was fired because of recording that was against policy... i can't remember the specifics of where it was.)

Written documentation is probably more appropriate for this situation. Talk to HR. There is absolutely NO reason this person should be acting this way, and honestly, unlike school, he can (and should) easily be removed from the situation (put on some sort of action plan, transferred or preferably fired.)

You can't get fired for being gay, but you can definitely get fired for acting like a faggot.

i just dont understand why this is even a question, its common sense that you are uncomfortable at work.

people get bullied because they let it happen. Can you imagine if she just continues to let it go on then she hurts herself and then she sues the company (hypothetical, i dont think sarah is that dumb) Is that right? She didnt even bother reporting it.

Everyone thinks they are tough until they realize they arent. No reason to get to that point, nip it in the bud now maybe no one has to lose their job.

Random update...so apparently someone else either said something to him or went to my supervisor...he actually apologized to me today for the way he talked to me in the past...

It was really weird...maybe it had to do with the fact that it was someone on the outside that saw it and called him out on it...
It takes a lot of stress off me...but I guess we will just have to see how long it lasts...it's very awkward this week because this week between the hours of 5 and 8 we are the only two people in the building and our desks are right beside each other and it's completely silent

I have never been harrassed before, but someone in my workplace spread a rumor that I was having an affair with a doctor 20 years my senior.

She knows that I know, who did it.

To this day, I don't even look at her or speak to her unless I have to.

what i would do. is ignore him and as he kept being an ass....id probably bring a few people and sit down and have like an intervention/suicide talk. Say, "are you ok, how is life at home. is the family ok, is something wrong. are you having drinking problems?"

just belittle him like there is something wrong with him and you are all concerned about him and his health.

Recording him is not illegal. Id actually say i am recording you everytime you talk to me and I am submitting it in a file to the supervisors and a lawyer if you continue to be a problem for me. I know you are trying to make me quit and thats illegal what your doing. So mind your Ps and Qs. Just tell him more people from nc state go to unc;s medical school than any other university in the country.

other way i can think of is when he says something wrong you always question him and when he doesnt defend it correctly, knock him down for being wrong or making no sense. when he makes a real argument that hes right u will let him speak to you.

theres plenty of ways to handle it and try to just see what knocks him on his ass or shuts him up.

1. Become homeless
2. Live in a shack
3. Make a "hot shot"
4. Leave it out so someone else can get it
5. Kill your friend
6. Turn yourself in and get let go anyway
7. Bully still walking around

In NC you can generally get fired for being gay, but maybe not in whatever city sawahash works in; as a relative example, there is no workplace protection for sexual orientation in Ohio generally, but there is in the city of Cincinnati.

So if she does live in a city without such protections, and she has a homophobic higher-up who hasn't yet seen the purses fall out of the misogynistic bastard's mouth, she might be able to give him a fast track to the shitcan.

I worked with two transvestites at a State Govt Dept here in NC. I really don't think anyone gives a shit if you want a dick in your vagina and/or ass at your job.

still it's on an employer-by-employer basis

also if the crossdressers weren't en femme on the job, how would the higher-ups have known?

finally, although protection based on gender expression is even more scant than based on gender identity, let alone sexual orientation, my hypothetical had to do with sexual orientation (btw most crossdressers are straight, so I can't automatically assume that those "transvestites" were gay)

when you are a guy and you have boobs added and your dick cut off so that dicks can be inserted, you're gay.

(both were like this)

oh oh oh then they're not transvestites

they're transsexuals (specifically post-operative)

and the only way they could be gay now is if they were like our resident transgender woman Catch 22, only into chicks
