Another downside of the pussyfication of America.

Bullys and bullying has been around forever.

Only recently has it become an issue because all of these idiot parents have raised a bunch of wimpy ass kids who have to be babied all the time and can't deal with the smallest amount of shit.

"However, not much has been said in this thread ab the online & cell phone aspect of this. When most of us were in HS you had dial up Internet (if anything at all) & you didn't have time to fuck with people between waiting for web pages to load & checking everyone's AIM status. I know texting wasn't a huge thing in HS & I forgot my cell half the time & not everyone had one that they carried to school.

Something about the bullying following kids home from school, in their pocket on their cell phone & shit people can talk on the Internet, I can't imagine not being able to escape that stuff. At least when I went home I wasn't being harassed. I think many of us in have a hard time understanding that."

another very good point.

mostly unrelated: I remember once in 9th grade or so being "bullied" by my bf's older sister - VIA PAGER. like "968 273 2 94673". and then, 5 minutes later, after I had decoded it, I'd respond with "46 3825 96877353".

tell me you remember doing that.

clearly this didn't happen because guns aren't allowed at school!

also, can we please forgo the trial and go ahead and put a bullet in this SOB's head? let's just get it over with.

bullshit. school shooting rates were much higher in the past. the DoJ has been tracking violent deaths at schools since 1992 and last year was at an all-time-low

^I'm bascially talking about the last 20yrs or so.

How many school shootings were there pre 1990?

Other than the most obvious one at Texas A&M

And I'm not just really referring to school shottings, I'm just saying that bullying has really only become an issue in schools and you hear about it a lot more, in recent years.

My dad said it best

"When I was in school, you either learned to fight back or get your ass kicked"

Look at it as an educational form of natural selection.

There are always going to be some weak people.

They either learn to adapt, or they become wimps for the rest of their life.

what are you classifying as a "school shooting"? Are you only including mass shootings in your claim? why is that any different?

Well I never said school shootings in my original post.

I just said bullying and bullys.

But you never really hear of school shootings that much pre 1990.

I just mentioned the Texas A&M one because thats the only one I have heard of from pre 1990 or so.

again, you've got to define "school shooting" here. Does one kid bringing a gun and shooting another count? Does a drive-by at the bus stop or on a kid walking to school count? You probably didn't hear about "school shootings" much before 1990 because you weren't cognizant of the concept at that age, and because the media didn't really care until there were mass shootings of white kids

^Jesus dude. A school shooting. Are they at school? Did someone get shot? If so, it's a school shooting.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_shooting

Well they are actually pretty evenly spread it seems.

Although, just from glancing, most of the earlier ones don't seem to be the result of bullying or what not.

I would say that social media drastically increased the attention towards it.

Is it a school shooting if a kid comes home from school then shoots one of his parents in their house?

I mean, he did come from school, so does that count?

?_?

all you guys with the stories about getting bullied, were you in the top-level classes in high school or just college-prep? small school? big school?

I couldn't imagine that stuff having gone down at my high school, and we were a good share of ethnicities mixed into a 4A school. Plus, it was kind of "cool" to be smart/well-rounded. Even if you were a complete nerd, no one would bother you.

Yeah, there wasn't any bullying going on in my school that I'm aware of. At least not in the honors or AP classes to my knowledge.

Amen. Let us play God. I don't believe in God, anyway, so why can't we take care of these fucksticks without any qualms?

""I guarantee that this was an aberration, this does not represent our community," Joyce told reporters. "He chose his victims at random. This is not about bullying. This is not about drugs. This is someone who is not well and I'm sure, in our court case, we will prove that to all of your desires and we will make sure that justice is done in our county.""

According to CNN the prosecutor, Joyce, says this wasn't a bullying issue. I find that interesting but think it's too soon to tell what the shooter's motives were.
