Damn this thread, I got bit by a spider a few days ago. The bite filled with pus and it was in a very uncomfortable spot...
Next day, found the spider nest near the doorway, had to kill them. They were small, light brown spiders, not sure what they were, but I don't think they were recluse spiders. Probably house spiders...

there are a lot of spiders that are very similar, with less potent toxins. I imagine you may have found a relative of the recluse. 4/16/2012 12:30:03 AM |

I have no problem with spiders. Love those little guys because they kill all those damn flies and whatnot....
but if I wake up in the middle of the night with one crawling over me I will scream like a little girl and possibly soil myself. 5/9/2012 2:06:12 PM |

Quote : | "Apparently some spiders hunt in packs. You’ve been warned.
Arachnophobes can usually take comfort in the fact that spiders are solitary creatures. The vast majority of the almost 40,000 known arachnid species have pretty miserable social skills, so they tend keep mostly to themselves.
But there exists a small handful of around two dozen species — known collectively as "social spiders" — that get on surprisingly, unsettlingly, terrifyingly well in the company of conspecifics.
Anelosimus eximius is one such species. In fact, they're among the chummiest spiders on Earth.
In the clip featured here, David Attenborough describes how tens of thousands of A. eximius will hunt in packs to lay waste to prey hundreds of times their own size. It almost makes you nervous to see Attenborough standing so close to their web. Where's William Shatner when we need him?" |

http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/asia-pacific/india/120602/sadiya-indian-town-overrun-poisonous-spiders-2-kille
Quote : | "The Indian town of Sadiya has been swarmed by deadly spiders that have killed two people, The Times of India reported.
The spiders, species unknown, showed up May 8, interrupting residents as they took part in a Hindu festival, said The Times.
Residents there fear a fresh onslaught of the "alien" spiders, reported The Hindustan Times.
Sadiya resident Purnakanta Buragohain and an unidentified school boy both died after being bitten, reported NewsCore.
Local hospitals were overwhelmed by people wounded by spider bites. A team of scientists arrived May 22 to investigate the incident and try to find an antidote, said The Times.
Dr. Saikia of Dibrugarh University told The Times that scientists haven't been able to identify the spider yet, saying the creature is "similar to the tarantula, but it could be a whole new species."
Whatever it is, Saikia described it as a "highly aggressive spider" that "leaps at anything that comes close," citing victims who said it "latched onto them after biting."
He said its venom needs to be tested before it could be definitively called a killer spider.
British naturalist Dr Vejay Singh told The Times that the swarming could be attributed to an environmental crisis. "Swarms of spiders are rare, although they have been reported, usually after flooding when the spiders search for dry and higher ground," he said.
The town of Sadiya, located in the Assam region, is also home to a leading Maoist community, according to The Hindustan Times. " |

the dead people were not killed by spiders, just mass hysteria over a tarantula breeding ground. Then anyone sick comes in complaining of a spider bite, but not bite marks and blood tests fail to show any athropod toxins. 6/6/2012 1:23:02 PM |

A studio apartment is typically suited for one occupant. But Dylan Baumann has been forced to coexist with about 40 lodgers in his small living space in Omaha, Nebraska. Even worse, the new tenants are potentially deadly recluse spiders.
"I saw them crawling across my walls, crawling along my floorboards and saw it crawling by my foot," Baumann told KETV." |
