I go to La Farm Bakery on Cary Parkway and get a half loaf of their signature bread. Best toast I've had.

Scotch. If I can't afford at least Glenlivet, I don't buy anything. (With the result being that I haven't bought scotch since 2010, and then I was in Wisconsin where they practically pay you to buy booze)

Yep. If you take apart a reg and see what's between you and drowning, you will never skimp on SCUBA gear, hahaha.
I pretty much buy well and buy once on everything. If it's something where there's a generic/store brand product that's legitimately equivalent, then I'm all about those.

having a favorite brand isn't exactly skimping, is it? 4/10/2012 10:39:53 PM

it is if there are generic brands that plenty of people enjoy and your favorite is significantly more expensive
for example i love cholula but i could get some shit like franks or tabasco alot cheaper
now obv each has their own flavor profile but they are all more similar to each other than siracha is to any hot sauce you can buy in most grocery stores
[Edited on April 10, 2012 at 10:44 PM. Reason : ^and either way you are basically agreeing with me that siracha isnt skimping]
you could also, say, prefer pop tarts but by the generic brand anyway b/c you are "skimping"

I think having a favorite brand would be something you refuse to skimp on, if that brand signifies greater quality than the norm. (i.e. certain brand cheeses, or neese's sausage as my example). But not if it's the same as the rest of the brands. 4/10/2012 10:46:23 PM

I don't buy generic yogurt/cottage cheese/sour cream. I don't know what it is but the store brands are fucking nasty. Generic cheese and milk are usually fine.
Back when I ate cereal I wouldn't buy generic frosted mini wheats. They would always fuck up the texture of the cereal. 4/11/2012 10:15:26 AM

The only things I can think to add are cling wrap and stuffing mix. I haven't eaten it in like 3 years, but I love Stove Top cornbread stuffing. Store brand is some kind of travesty. 4/11/2012 10:23:19 AM

I actually use hubs, not as short for husband, even though it is, but because it's short for the pet name I call him (habibi). I won't use his name on a message board, and y'all wouldn't know who the hell I was referring to anyways. So, I'll "be a grownup" and call him whatever comes out when I type. I'm not worried about what other people want me to call him...
^I love that. I will totally call him Mr. Beethoven. Much better than DH (Dear Husband), that really drives me up the wall.

but i felt like ass most of the time.
also, for people saying aluminum foil, if you buy the generic heavy duty foil, it's good enough for 99% of your applications. and i use foil a lot. 4/11/2012 1:35:21 PM
