flashforward wasn't nearly as bad as this show.

They should have stuck with Kings and let it be.

I felt mediocre about this show... my first though was "oh, another journeyman-terranova-firefly that gets canceled after one season"

^^ did you really think journeyman and firefly were "meh"? because if so, your opinion means nothing in the context of this thread

^^no... that's not how I intended that statement to come across. I own the firefly series and really enjoyed Journeyman. (terra nova was alright)...

I just meant shows that were canceled after one season, and those were the first three that came to mind.

Ah, Journeyman, that was a great show. I guess for every 3-4 crappy sci fi shows like Revolution you get the occasional good one. Regardless of quality it seems like Falling Skies and Lost are the only ones that made it past one season.

This show is no different that most other shitty TV. The fundamental problem with most bad TV shows is they treat their viewers like idiots.

That's why HBO and the cable networks are cleaning up at the emmys and the networks are getting destroyed.

The attitude that some scifi (no matter how bad) is better than no scifi will continually lead to trash like Revolution.

you can't really compare the success of Falling Skies to anything on network TV. the amount of viewership needed for a cable series, let alone a summer cable series, is a fraction of what's needed for the major networks to justify keeping a new series on the air.

and i'll add a +1 to the Journeyman ruled vote

the show is losing me fast. after 2 episodes i'm real hesitant to even bother tuning in to the next episode. this whole "teen girl hero that we can relate to" trend in movies and tv is nauseating anymore. i really don't even find any of the characters all that interesting. i mean, maybe Miles but that's really it. and woo-hoo the mother is alive; who didn't see that shit coming. ugh.

From Greg Easterbrook, ESPN.com:

Quote :
"Suppose you were a father and mother who knew all technology was about to stop working -- you'd buy more than one bag of groceries! You wouldn't wait until the last conceivable instant to draw water or copy the magic software. You'd stockpile inhalers for your asthmatic child, rather than do nothing, as is depicted. If the first two characters shown knew the blackout apocalypse was coming, why didn't they prepare?

Fifteen years later, just before expiring, the man hands the power-restoration amulet to a stranger, not explaining its purpose. Lying mortally wounded, he tells his daughter to be strong but does not reveal his knowledge of how the blackout began. Since the amulet and the knowledge were the items of value he possessed at death, why didn't he give either to his daughter?

The daughter walks to Chicago to find her uncle; what seemed like a rural village was the ruins of a suburb. The uncle declares he has not spoken to his brother since receiving the warning a moment before the blackout. At this point we must accept that the uncle, a highly trained commando, knew that his brother had vital information about whatever stopped all power on Earth from functioning -- yet over 15 years, never simply walked to his brother's nearby house to ask him what the heck was going on.

Canceled by Christmas; lucky to make it to Thanksgiving."

Yep, definitely gonna happen. Even though after 15 years of inactivity the battery wouldn't work.

Also, on the sword fighting, I can see how that is feasible. Current police/military rely on firearms but obviously guns and bullets are a lot harder to make when you don't have electricity. I'd think the militia guys would all be armed and trained with at least a bow and arrow too though.

I'm glad to see that this show is as bad as I expected it would be. They've already done the "power goes out" shit several times. Get some new material, folks.

I agree, it could be intriguing to have it be that "the power never comes back on", but I'd like to think that we would be smart enough to work around it. At least have steam-powered shit, like others have said

what other "power goes out" shows have there been?

or did you mean shows with a similar premise?

This show reminds me of "The Postman... the Series"

i can't stop thinking why people don't use old diesel tractors as transport.

if explosions still work (guns fire etc) but electricity doesn't.... then old ass diesels still work.

please utilize this.

It could be a possibility you know. Netflix has inquired about the rights to Jericho earlier in the year and if netflix can pull off the production of a new season of Arrested Development, I'm sure they'd pursue in bringing back other cult hits.

There was a rumor that Netflix also inquired about Firefly as well... but that just seems so far fetch to even be true. If netflix somehow got Firefly back together, I would go to their HQ and kiss the management team for doing a job that should have been done 10 years ago.

While acquiring the rights to Firefly would be difficult, I would think getting the cast back together would be even tougher. At least two/three of the former cast members have large parts on other shows.
