if you've really been kicked out of grad school because of this, and the arrest really was unjustified, it is conceivable that you could sue the police department and/or State for millions of dollars

just throwing that out there...I would definitely look into it and consult a lawyer, if I were you

JeffreyBSG ..... this is an option I am considering. Unfortunately the school does not offer unbiased free legal counsel (they have been unable to fill this position). But I am exploring all options given my cash constraints. Any advice in this area would be highly helpful

mrfrog .... I do own a shirt that says that. If I ran past you at 130am - 3am in dark sunglasses, I legitimately wanted that cigarette. My charges were posted and are now public record. Nothing "stupid" in there aside from protesting when my civil rights were violated......which I guess is pretty stupid in this country now......

0EPII1 ...... from what I am able to surmise, grad programs do not operate under the same rules as underad programs. I was able to schedule several appointments at the director level on Monday.......this left me with zero time to resolve my housing situation

i have a history with russians/ussrians.

(HOLY SHIT, I JUST REALIZED, Russians and USSRians have the same letters, just the R is out of place... WOW)

- i had a crush on an uzbek girl as an undergrad. she was a tall gorgeous swimmer.
- i dated another uzbek girl, even though she was married.
- my brother married a russian girl.
- one of my friends at as an undergrad was ukrainian.
- one of my best friends in grad school (ncsu) was russian.
- one of the most prolific Soap Box posters was russian, and he was one of the very very few people on here that i met in real life.
- our neighbours are ukrainian.

That's interesting. I was actually born in the main city of Uzbekistan, Tashkent ! My father lives in Yalta, Ukraine. I can speak Russian but not Ukrainian. Uzbek is a different nationality altogether, but they mixed with the Russians to produce gorgeous results. Both my parents are Russian, I believe one of my grandparents is BeloRussian, the others are Russian as well.

Hello DK212, I'm EMCE... who some consider to be the very nicest TWWer. I have been following this read off and on all day, but have just now had the chance to really comment. Three quick points:


1. It really pains me to hear of the predicament that you landed in with the police, NCSU, and in your hunt for an apartment. You must understand that around colleges in the United States, police often treat any young-looking person like a criminal. Doubly worse if you are foreign. Triply worse if you are brown-skinned. It's a sad but true fact. Often (though it hurts to do), it's less painful to comply with the police at first.... and come back to recoup damages later in a court of law.

3. I am very much troubled by the fact that you came to the website looking for help, and instead had your name, picture, former address, and arrest record posted.

As per 1. I knew this when talking to the officer, someone has to stand up for everyone else's rights, otherwise we'll have Nazi Germany here sooner than people expect

As per 2. I lol'ed .....hard.

As per 3. As of my arrest, it is all public record. While posting it here was of poor taste, especially in this context. I do not have to live with the negative karma of maliciously attacking a person legitimately looking for help. May life bring those people what it will, I hold no ill will towards them.

As per your P.S. , once I came here I started to stay hello and nod at EVERYONE I saw. At first, I didnt want to come off as rude because I was in business formal most of the time for my program, but it legitimately looked like it made people happy, they smiled, I smiled and everyone had a better day. I still do that every day, business formal or not.

Since you need a room ASAP, The Velvet Cloak might legitimately be your best option. There's also a holiday inn nearby IIRC. It's not the cheapest solution, but it will buy you time until you can find a more permanent residence.

settledown , Well I'm constrained by court appointments are the moment in terms of me leaving anytime soon. I am upset with NCSU, especially my grad program. This is all a huge waste of my time, money and efforts. I being treated like a violent life-long offender and served trespassing notices for the campus and need to inform campus police when I have official business there.

Something through TWW offered me a room & another bunch of guys seem to have a cool house with a couch for me to crash on until a room becomes available. It just seems like some people here are terrific and I vibe with them on so many levels and other people despise the shit out of me for no reason. Lately it's been feeling like the latter.

I'd advise you to contact an attorney. If indeed "show me your papers" was the term used, it hints that you may have been treated differently -to your detriment - because of your foreign heritage. It's a potential violation of 42 USC 1983.

A lawyer is definitely on my list, however I am very cash constrained because I was expecting to get loans which i assume are now not coming due to the change in my standing. I scheduled a meeting with NCSU legal, perhaps they can point me in the right direction in regards to this issue.
