Can goalielax and goodlife please stop being so insufferably superior to everyone. Damn. Neither of you know for certain that the only way the schools would have agreed to the higher fees is with ND joining. The fee was already raised to $20m not long ago iirc. So then the topic of this thread really is about whether ND joining the league by itself adds anything to the league, much less saves it, and that is debatable so stop acting like the rest of us just don't understand.

"
Are we getting any of ND's TV money? hell no.
Are they getting any ACC money? hell yes.

Do they get to jump us and take a better ACC bowl than us if they want? Yes
Is there any guarantee, or even a suggestion from ND that they will become a full member in 2015? Nope."

Pretty much...

"So will the winner of the ACC still play ND in the Orange Bowl?"

Yes, Swafford stated that in his press conference. On the BCS level, the ACC still has its current tie in with the Orange Bowl no matter what. So if ND is eligible it is possible for ND vs ACC in the game, but the ACC is guaranteed.

Below the BCS, ND can be picked ahead of the ACC only if they are within one win of the qualified ACC school. So if they are 8-4, cant be picked ahead of a 10-2, but can be picked infront of a 9-3.

I am curious to see if there has been an official word on how the ND game will affect the ACC team's record. I imagine it would be considered a non conference game and not affect the team's ACC record, but you never know.

nothing really news worthy but in the press conference did the president of ND give thanks to Thorp while looking to the side as if he were there? yeah swofford let's take the chancellor of the school involved in a huge academic scandal to the press conference and show the nation just how great the ACC is

Has anyone stated, for a fact, how the Notre Dame scheduling would work? I can't imagine they get to play the their Bostn College/Pitt game every year, and the rest of us have to rotate through the remaining three spots. I would hope that the ACC requires a balanced approach to ND and ACC opponents.

Swofford said all ACC teams would play ND in a 3 year period. So I would assume its a full rotation between all the ACC teams.

Same. The ACC is going to a 9 game conference schedule, right? If so, then ND would take away a non-conference game for 5 teams each year?

Miami with the Big East - 8 BCS/Top Tier bowl games and 1 National Championship.
Miami with the ACC - 0 BCS bowl games

I'm not saying its exclusively from joining the ACC, but that moment seemed to have been the moment that UM decided to become a mediocre program.

Kinda sucks. With 5 ACC games on their schedule it kinda feels like they get an automatic bye week during our conference championship game and get to play in the BCS game. Guess those 5 teams will have to take care of business.

Everyone is talking about ND playing in a BCS bowl game. Why do we assume ND is good enough for a BCS bowl? Since 1998 (the start of the BCS) they have made 3 BCS bowls, the last of which was 2007.

^ True. Fits right in with FSU, Miami, and Clemson as teams living in the past.

Also:

Holden Thorp is the current chair of the ACC Presidents Council or some group to that effect. He was asked to present the ND folks and that is also why the press conference was held in Chapel Hill as that is where this council is having their annual meeting. I do agree that it was pretty LOL that Thorp spoke at this important presser considering his university is in a huge shit storm.

I can't imagine them not fully joining after their TV contract is up in 2015.

Let's start the speculation on who team #16 is going to be.

UConn??

"It might take like two hours to drive East to West across Indiana, but North Carolina is freaking huge. It has the ocean and farms and mountains. I know you guys have the Dunes and everything, but this is way different. This thing blew my mind when I moved down there. From the Tennessee border to the Atlantic Ocean takes like way longer than it should. Plan accordingly. Also, Virginia is enormous too for some reason. South Carolina you can just pretty much ignore.

When you're driving to Clemson, don't get off at any random exits, do not pass go, do not drive directly to the trailer parks in Anderson, just go, drink, watch football, drink, hang out downtown at the fun bars, get back to Greenville and get out. It's not that people in Clemson aren't nice; you just might get stuck there forever."

Quote :
"Notre Dame to ACC a Win/Win

By Joseph Wyatt

Today the ACC Council of Presidents announced that Notre Dame will be joining the ACC as a full partner in all sports except football; however they have agreed to play 5 football games a year against ACC opponents. They have also agreed join in the ACC's non-BCS bowl package. In conjunction, the presidents also voted to increase the conference exit fee to three times the annual operating budget, which pushes it to over $50 million.
What does all this mean? Some might say Notre Dame still has its independence. Others might say it was a desperate move by the ACC. But I say it was a stroke of genius by ACC Commissioner John Swofford, a signal that Notre Dame's independence is in its twilight phase, a signal that the Big Ten has reached its ceiling and the Big East is a sinking ship in all sports, not just football.

Let's face it, Notre Dame still has some stroke. When the Irish want to dance, there is no shortage of suitors ready to take their hand from all directions. But the selection of the ACC shows it's about more than just sports. Notre Dame needed a partner that believes in academics. The ACC and Big Ten have high standards in that regard. However, the Midwest is in decline, as evidenced by the constant migration south of the population. So Notre Dame cast its gaze southward. It also doesn't hurt that more premier athletes are mined from the South.
But the ACC wasn't just a backup friend like the Big East has always been. Swofford was able to get Notre Dame to come off with 5 football games a year as well as getting them involved in their non-BCS bowl package. Maybe the Irish haven't married the ACC, but they just moved in together. So the chances of full ACC membership are far greater now than they would be if it were purely a non-football sports deal. And now those suitors...they'll stop calling.

The ACC also took that leverage of a future with Notre Dame and increased the conference exit fees. All that talk of Florida State/Clemson moving to the Big 12 or Virginia Tech/North Carolina being targets for the 15th & 16th members of the SEC can now be put to rest. The payout in the SEC isn’t enough to offset $50 million. Plus Notre Dame’s TV deal with NBC only runs thru 2015. Maybe ESPN and the ACC can reopen negotiations on their contract that just might entice Notre Dame to agree to full membership. So very soon these ACC schools could be looking at revenue deals on par with the big boys.

So maybe Swofford and the ACC didn’t throw the Hail Mary into the end zone. But they completed the pass at the 5 yard line and there’s still time on the clock. Things are looking up."

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but ND coming to the ACC means that we probably are getting our basketball home and home with carolina back.

Quote :
"Adding Notre Dame likely will preserve UNC-N.C. State tradition

CHAPEL HILL -- Notre Dame’s arrival to the ACC likely will allow UNC and N.C. State to continue their nearly 100-year-old tradition of playing twice a year.

Their home-and-home series, which dates to 1920, was at risk after the ACC moved to an 18-game schedule in anticipation of Pittsburgh and Syracuse joining for the 2013-14 season.

With Notre Dame on board as the 15th team, commissioner John Swofford said teams likely will have two scheduling partners in an 18-game conference schedule.

Duke and UNC are partners, as are N.C. State and Wake Forest.

When asked if that meant N.C. State would be the Tar Heels’ second partner, Swofford smiled.

“I think that has a good chance of happening,” he said.

Why not, UNC has shown they can cheat to keep athletes playing AND get away with it! SEC schools should be excited to get the Tarheels so they can learn some new tricks!

notre dame may suck, but they're leaps and bounds better than uconn, louisville, rutgers... basically any other school that would potentially shake up their conference alignment to join (or half-join) the acc.
