And yeah, when we were there we wore shorts and flip plops the whole week without any issues. Even when we went to nicer restaurants.

There really isn't a dress code. You can wear sandals, shorts, jeans etc. Even the nice restaurants in the casinos know that people usually are coming from the casino and don't have a dress code or anything. You can wear a suit if you want but since you are going to Vegas in June, you'll be sweating your ass off if you leave the casino

If you've really got some balls, you should do the Sky Jump off the Stratosphere. 855 feet, falling at 40 mph from the top of Vegas' tallest building. Just watching people do it turned my stomach. That shit is crazy.

Bttt. Attending a conference in June for work. First time ever going to Vegas and taking the wife, who has never even flown commercial before. Looks like best location for work budget and location is going to be The Flamingo. DJE, did you think it was alright? Also taking the Delta red-eye home Friday PM/Saturday AM as Electric Daisy Carnival starts the 20th and room rates go WAY up that night.

I didn't stay at the Flamingo, but we stayed at the Hilton right next door. I'm sure the rooms at the Flamingo are not near as nice as the Hilton, but I liked the Casino. The pools were good too.

The only downside to the Flamingo is that it is all the way at the end of the strip, so plan to take the Monorail and to walk miles. iirc the Monorail from the Flamingo only goes as far as MGM. If your company is getting you a car or willing to reimburse you for taxi fees then even better. And speaking of the Monorail from the Flamingo, it's not free. So I recommend going ahead and buying the 3-day pass, because you'll need it.

I've never been to Vegas, either. Apparently I'll be there at the end of June/beginning of July staying in the MGM skylofts

Other than that being ridiculously expensive (and i'm not paying a dime for it) I really don't know anything about Vegas other than to gamble

^ When we went, the other 2 couples stayed at MGM. Their rooms were small, but we didn't spend a lot of time in the rooms anyway. MGM is probably one of the best places to stay because it's right in the middle of everything but still affordable.

And I couldn't imagine being in Vegas in July. We were there in October and the temps were still in the 90's.

^^^Yes I picked Flamingo because it has the monorail. The conference I am attending will be at the Las Vegas Convention Center which is on the Monorail line. I am just going to get the 7 day pass and get reimbursed for that.

I wanted to do the MGM King Luxury room, but they were not available for whatever reason. All they had was the west building rooms, which blow. Tiny ass room, tiny ass window, etc. I want something with a fucking window and a view of something. The GO Deluxe rooms look nice enough to me.

^ Good call.

Also, I think there is a free Monorail from MGM to all the other popular Casinos. I want to say I remember taking the Monorail from the Flamingo to MGM, then hopping on the MGM monorail to the rest of the strip. But it's been like 1.5 years since I was there, so I might be wrong.

Either way, still plan on doing a ton of walking. Just getting across the street in Vegas is like a mile walk, no exaggeration.

^^^MGM started the LV Monorail, and then it was bought out/taken over/expanded by the city. Since I will be at the LVCC a lot, I wanted something that had a short trip from that, which limited me to locations on the east side of the Strip.

Believe me Gunzz, I wanted to. But none of them were in the budget for what work would pay. Your tax dollars at work.

Cosmopolitan is the best hotel to me hands down. Stayed 3 times already. Aria is a very close second though.

Thing that sucks about cosmopolitan is that it has its own players card system. Doesnt tie into Mlife or Total Rewards. So I never end up gambling there because of that.

Cosmo is nice, although I think paying a ton of money when you spend so little time in the room is pretty dumb. I go to Vegas probably 5-6x a year and rarely spend any time in my room.

might be possible to stroll down for a couple of days. Will try to make it happen.

One pro tip for fellow cheap-asses... probably the best cocktail I have ever tasted was the Cosmopolitan at the Bond Bar just inside the cosmopolitan hotel. Its their signature drink

I had never had a cosmo before as I thought they were a girly drink but figured what the heck... it was amazing. They run like 16 bucks apiece though.

Heres the deal. If you sit at the actual bar and put a 20$ in the video blackjack machine, your drinks are comped. My bro and I racked up a >100$ tab in around an hour but it was completely free. The only catch is that you have to put at least 20 in the machine and bet 1$ a hand. You can play as slow as you want(according to the bartenders we had). He lost 4 bucks and I won 18 so we just tipped our guy 20 and the whole experience was basically free.

You might want to confirm with the bartender before you go crazy, but I went back the next day with a different bartender and it was the same. Something I will definitely do again.

Also, the Casino Royale is the shit. It is a shithole with old dude dealers and not one attractive cocktail waitress, but it feels old school when you are at the craps table. The odds are awesome and the min bet is usually 5$ with slow weekdays yielding 3$ mins. That craps table is a barrel of fun, all kinds of people.

==========

If you have never played craps, you have to do it. Stick to the basic plays like pass line and odds and it isn't as intimidating as it looks. At CR you can play for cheap and if there are a few folks at the table it can be a riot.

Just got back from LV yesterday, wanted to keep things on the cheap so stayed at the Flamingo. It's a decent hotel and it never hurts to ask for a free room upgrade. Got bumped up to a room on the top floor just by asking at check in. I hadn't really gambled at the Cosmo before but that place is pretty baller, def have the hottest cocktail waitresses and hottest BJ dealers outside of maybe planet hollywood.

Agreed, Casino Royal is a great place to play some cheap craps or roulette. If you get on a table with a good crowd then you can't really beat the entertainment value for the dollar. IIRC they've gotten rid of a few craps tables, I only saw one going the entire weekend which kind of sucks.

planning a trip right now for June to celebrate my 30th.
looks like we are staying at the Paris.
first trip to Vegas. Been to atlantic city and several other casinos in the past. staying 5 days. looks like Southwest has the best flight options. about $500 round trip. getting very cheap rooms from playing so many other times at AC. stupid $100 "resort fee" that they charge kinda makes me angry but $240 for 5 nights isn't a bad deal in the end.

Not sure if we will rent a car or just take the rail and walk. will basically come down to if my gf wants to make day trips to other attractions or not.
i am just looking forward to some good poker rooms

Craps at Casino Royale was phenomenal. Also at a couple of downtown casinos -- basically, cheap sketchy places where I can afford to play and the other people there are like-minded people who won't call me an asshole for not knowing every nuance of the game.

And the cocktail waitresses at those low-end places, while not even a little bit attractive, were always quickest on the refills. But most important is the game. I had never played craps before Casino Royale and now it is my favorite gambling game (though my favorite gambling experience, and probably the best bang-for-your-buck, was betting on the horses. Make $2 bet. Get free drinks. Yell at screen with other gamblers. Win a few bucks or lose two. Rinse, repeat)

I got a car, went to IN N Out...holla!
Love the Wynn. Stayed at Rio, Caesars, and Circus Circus...but next year I want to go to Palazoo or Venetian.

I will also say that Casino Royale has the best craps tables. They have the best odds in all of Vegas, so playing craps anywhere else is just giving the house more of an edge. The only catch is that if you're playing with a minimum bet you can't play max odds (which are 100X). I think the highest odds you can play with the minimum bet is like 20X.

i was there earlier this year and had a blast. stayed at planet hollywood and bally's. i liked the room and view at ph, but wasn't crazy about the casino. bally's exceeded expectations all around.

for people who want to do a lot of gambling, downtown is very underrated. the odds on slots and many games are better, and at much lower limits on the weekends. if you want a lower-key casino atmosphere, check out the california. i like main street station, which has a brewery and great craft beers

i also agree with all the people promoting craps. it's a great game, very fair in terms of house edge, and you'll wonder why it seemed so complicated once you learn. crowded tables have hands and chips going everywhere, so get over the intimidation factor by finding an empty table and asking a dealer to walk you through it.

At hard rock right now. Pm me if you want details.

The brief +/- :
- 6$ cab ride to strip, it's just outside of walking range, so you have to plan to go to the other casinos. Casino isn't the biggest, it's nice atmosphere, but not the nicest I've seen here. Stayed in king jr suite with pool view, simple room, a lot of white, room is neat, bathroom is nice, but I expected more for a suite (don't get me wrong, it's nice, it's spacious for the minimal upgrade fee I payed, I just wished for a bit more). Not reccomended for first time Vegas trips, stay on the strip. Not reccomended if you have kids or are primarily interested in gambling.

+younger crowd, awesome pools with lots of eye candy, chill and no swarms of tourist. Music is fun, Fair prices for food and drinks, SEEN MAYBE 2 KIDS so you don't have to put up with that bullcrap. Did I mention a shit ton of super hotties everywhere, god bless pool parties. Good selection of food, no wait times really since its off the strip and non guests don't fill it up. If you like music, like drinking, like looking at super hot girls in tiny bikinis and telling your wife you didn't notice them , if you dont have kids, if you have stayed on the strip before and want something different, then this is a good place.

+++ for downtown, old Vegas. Worth the cab ride, way better slots and games (low limits and better odds). Defiantly a place for walking around, exploring food carts and just exploring.

So we got here yesterday morning. Flight was early as fuck and we were exhausted by the time we got through traveling. We did go on and hit the Hoover Dam and got to see the generators and all that. It was pretty cool. Got our room (Flamingo 15th floor) and had some Margaritavillle dinner which was super fucking overpriced IMO. With us being up since 3 am and the time zone change, we were out by like 7:00 pm. Totally missed the night lights our first night here.

Now sitting in a class at LVCC while the wife is hanging at the pool. Trying to decide where to hit for dinner tonight. Any suggestions for a nice place to eat nearby that I'm not going to have to spend $texas? Hell we have a rental car so we can easily go off Strip if need be.
