Great movie. Watching the trailers I wondered how they'd make such a crazy premise work, but they pulled it off, although they should've explained some of things Wraith mentioned. The standoff at the White House could've been cheesy but sitting in the theater I found it gripping. Might not hold up on repeat viewings though.
Anytime Mystique was disguised as a regular person I found Jennifer Lawrence really stiff and wooden. 5/27/2014 10:28:13 AM |

I thought it was a lot of fun:
- I really enjoyed the future action sequences, especially the stuff with Link
- 70s sentinels look like Iron Giant
- I expected more of Peter Dinklage, but Trask isn't nearly as colorful as the Lannisters are
- Lucas Bishop
- I like the in-jokes that this series has, "Hey, my mom used to know someone that could do stuff with metal"
- I know we already knew about the teaser in the stinger, but it was still cool to see
- Quicksilver was a lot of fun; although, my understanding is that Quicksilver as an older man is much more bitter, short-tempered due to having everything move super slow for him (a la most speedsters)

^It's Blink, not Link, but yeah her scenes when they were fighting in the future were great. The part when Colossus fell on top of the Sentinel reminded me of an X-men video game where that was one of his special moves (or maybe it was one of the Marvel vs. Capcom games). I'm glad they finally had the X-men fighting as a team as that is one of the main things I feel were left out of previous movies.
Quote : | "The scene at the end of The Wolverine doesnt seem to actually lineup with this movie in any way though...it gave us a status update on Xavier and Magneto, but no reason for why they were meeting Wolverine in the first place." |
Yeah that was one of my points --they needed to recruit Wolverine for their war against the Sentinels. The Wolverine was supposedly set in modern times whereas the opening to Days of Future Past was set like 20 years in the future. So Wolverine fighting with them and the X-men for however long really had no effect on the rise of the Sentinels

Ink
Quote : | "So far, Ink has the following tattoos and powers:
The tattoo on his right palm in the shape of a biohazard symbol which gives him the power to make someone extremely ill. The Caduceus symbol on his hand allows him to heal others. The tattoo on his left hand gives him super strength. The lines look similar to the banding on Colossus' flesh when he transforms, indicating a toughening of Ink's flesh also. The "explosive" symbol tattooed on his right biceps allows him to blow up objects, and once even helped him punch through a wall. The two lightning bolt tattoos on his head give him the ability to read minds, but can be blocked by psi-shields, taken from a comic book depiction of psychic abilities (actually an early Marvel Comics publication image of Professor X). The tattoos of wings on his back grant him flight. The Phoenix Force symbol over his eye allows him to use a facsimile of the Phoenix's powers. This was the tattoo that caused Leon to go into a coma upon adding it to Eric's body" |

I saw the trailer for this a few weeks back and had never seen any of the other ones. Got them through Netflix leading up to this one and got around to seeing it today. Thought it was great - did a good job of setting up sequels for the original cast and the 'First Class' cast and did so in a way that at least provided an excuse for correcting the mistakes of 'Last Stand'. Pretty great to see both casts merged seamlessly into one film. 5/27/2014 11:23:32 PM |

It was good, though I just feel like it wasn't the movie I wanted to see.
I pretty much watched to see nonstop X-Men vs Sentinel action spanning the past and present. Instead it was just surly James McAvoy waits for Michael Fassbender to double cross him while the same Sentinel fight rages over and over again in the future.
And there was the one Quicksilver part which still wasn't as awesome as Nightcrawler in X2.
The whole time travel thing just seemed pointless.

that's odd, I thought the Quicksilver scene was way better than Nightcrawler's. Better effects, and more humorous. It had more character than Nightcrawler just kicking ass (which was incredibly badass).5/28/2014 8:48:59 AM |

I agree with Stein, the opening Nightcrawler scene in X2 was better. The Quicksilver part wasn't bad, but I would have liked him to have had a larger part in the movie overall. I see why they didn't include him more though, his powers would have made things too easy for one side to win. 5/28/2014 8:54:26 AM |

Well, I'll be damned. Here I thought this movie was going to suck out loud, but I actually enjoyed it. I was all set to hate on this portrayal of Quicksilver, too, but it turns out that it was my favorite part of the movie. The other thing that sort of bugs me is "where do they go from here?"
Apocalypse is clearly next, but is that happening in the 70s with McAvoy/Fassbender or the "present" with Stewart/McKellen?
If the former, then it's silly because we know everyone survives. If the latter, it'd be disappointing if the entire point of these past two movies was to just retcon X3 and then go back to the original cast. 5/28/2014 11:45:00 AM |

Hell, it could be both. Initial conflict in the 70's that doesn't resolve things completely, but buys them a few decades. Then the conflict returns in "present day".

What's kinda funny is at the end when Wolverine wakes up and walks around the school and sees everyone (Rouge and Bobby together, Jean, Cyclops and Prof. X alive.) it's like X3 never happened. Best part of the movie IMO.

If you could call that alter ego thing Jean had in X3 the Dark Phoenix.
X3 and Wolverine Origins were so bad I've completely blocked them out of memory. In fact I thought that the first standalone Wolverine movie was so bad I didn't bother with the second one.
I did like X-Men First Class. The only lasting issue I had with that one was the absolutely baffling decision by Angel Salvadore to join the brotherhood.
I do find myself interested in this one... despite dragging in the actors from the originals. X3 just killed it for me. The reboot was welcome, bringing the old guys back was a step backwards IMO.

^I feel that the way they portrayed Quicksilver, he could have taken out Magneto pretty easily. Unless Magneto saw him coming and made some kind magnetic shield or something. If he didn't see him coming though, Quicksilver could just run in out of nowhere and smack him really hard to knock him out.

Saving nixon publicly was serendipitous. I actually thought that's what magneto was going for when he took over the robots, but then he just declared war on humans.

They made it seem like when they are sending someone back to the past, that the future events can affect things.
How come when they were traveling back at the very beginning before the sentinel blasted them, that didn't just stop their time travel attempt?
It doesn't make sense quicksilver can move that fast and not rip/burn his clothes to shreds, unless his power is actually some type of time warping.
In the future, it seems like the girl that could make the portals could just make a portal appear half-way up a Sentinel, then make it disappear to instantly disable the sentinel. 5/30/2014 4:28:18 PM |

I don't really understand what you mean. You mean events in the future affect what's happening in the past? because I didn't see that at all. The two timelines never physically interact.
I don't really understand why you would think that about the second question either. The future does not change until the moment the person going back is released. Bishop was released right before the sentinel attacked them, so what would have stopped the time travel attempt?5/31/2014 1:36:06 AM |

This movie was great on so many levels. Perfect? no. But from start to finish this is worth the price of admission to see the Xmen on the big screen.
I have to start off by giving ultimate credit to producers and writers, who for the first time since series inception, managed to NOT screw up introducing new mutants. I think everyone is spot on comparing Quicksilver's screen adaptation to Night Crawler's in X2. They hit a complete home run with this character, and made every second he was involved in the plot (on screen) really fun and engaging after he was initially introduced. Blink was incredible to watch visually interact in fight scenes and compliment the team in battles. Bishop was rough, tough and probably not used enough for my liking - but they didn't force it just because he has a cool power, a gun, and is a new character. They really let all the character development happen organically - which has been a big miss in my opinion in previous installments.
I have to also point out that McAvoy and Fassbender carry this movie from a pure story telling perspective. Their chemistry together (and general talent to perfectly portray the MOST IMPORTANT characters in the canon at this point in their lives) kept me as a fanboy engaged anytime they were on the screen. I have as much confidence in them with this series moving forward as I do with any of the Avengers characters/actors - which really makes the difference with how quality these films can be if they keep focusing on strong story lines rather than just throwing money at a special effects team to create a few cool scenes built around an uncompelling story arc. (wolverine origins, x3)
One of my only complaints was the (again) lack of Colossus. This character has real potential to enhance these movies. I just feel like they are leaving some real WOW potential on the floor by not incorporating him as anything more than a bruiser in the background. I have to be grateful that they gave him that boss tag team with Blink scene, though. I think they could build around his character, incorporate his backstory, and have another possibly Wolverine/Magneto level character that could be hugely popular and marketable. They just don't give him the chance, unfortunately, which is a shame. Or perhaps this is something to look forward to for the future. Imagine one day them incorporating Omega Red storyline from Russia, centering around his homeland and the Xmen coming together?? Tell me that wouldn't be awesome adapted with these characters after seeing DoFP....but I digress.
Sure there are some plot holes, but they get a pass from me since its built around the time travel, change the future concept. I can look past that for the bigger payoff - X3 never happens, and we get Cyclops back with original team from X2. We will find out that Wolvie has adamantium claws, and how it transpires in AoA I am sure. I trust the team behind this series fully (unless I am a boy toy at a hollywood party and Bryan Singer is starting to throw cash around).
I give DoFP 3.5/4 stars. Yes I am fanboy. Yes I am bias. But that was a solid 2 hours of fun and entertainment with very little to complain about, and much more to be genuinely excited about. 5/31/2014 1:42:07 PM |

Just watched it last night for the first time.
Really liked it. But I kept thinking that in the first movies where Rebecca Romijn-Stamos-Fat-Kid-From-Stand-By-Me's Mystique was a follower, not a leader.
The character in this movie didn't seem like the Mystique we came to know. She was also BFF's with Magneto, but in this movie they weren't buds.
It just seems like there's no connection from the original Mystique to the new one.
I'll admit, I don't know jackshit about the comics. I just like these movies... and I think they're hands down far better than any other comic movie (except for the Batman series). 11/9/2014 2:50:11 PM |

Watched it over the weekend and loved it. I'm a casual X-Men fan (was my favorite Saturday morning cartoon, but didn't read the comics and don't know all the "secondary" mutants) and a big Wolverine fan. I've watched and, at the very least, was at least entertained by all of the previous X-Men and Wolverine movies...but this was easily the best one they've done (First Class was pretty good...but this was just on another level). The future fight scenes with the Sentinels were phenomenal.
Do we know what they're doing next with this "series"? 11/11/2014 2:20:12 PM |

I liked Rebecca Romijn's Mystique better as well. Jennifer Lawrence is easily the worst part of the new movies. At least they had the sense to cut Anna Paquin's scenes. She is fucking terrible. Lawrence is just cruising. Too bad they constantly keep building some stupid love triangle plot for her in every movie.
