3 cups

I have never been a coffee drinker, but want to get into it. What should I start with? Should I even bother with instant coffees, or are they all shit? I want to make it myself, so I guess I need to buy equipment? Noob question: is it possible to just add the ground coffee to boiled water in a container and then strain it in to a cup, to avoid having to buy a coffee machine of some sort?[Edited on November 8, 2013 at 7:20 PM. 11/8/2013 7:22:33 PM
Oh yeah, nice idea. Just saw a nice German one recently in a store.

I've had nearly an entire pot and I still don't feel like it has been enough #mondays
2/19/2018 11:32:13 AM
I do not drink coffee
2/19/2018 12:20:29 PM
Stopped in 2012. Less than 5 cups since.
2/19/2018 12:25:48 PM
I usually stop for the day whenever my pee starts to smell like coffee.
2/19/2018 1:15:16 PM
I drink as many cups as 2chainz got chainz
2/19/2018 2:02:50 PM
Not a one this year so far.
2/19/2018 2:06:50 PM
1-2 cups per week. Only started drinking it at all in the past year or two as well.
2/19/2018 2:22:06 PM
my answer hasn't really changed from page 1. 2-3 cups/day. little half and half, no sugar.
2/19/2018 2:56:18 PM
4-6 times/year.(But 2-3 cups of strong black tea with milk/day)
2/19/2018 3:21:47 PM
2/19/2018 3:32:47 PM
usually 1 cup in the morning on days that i work. every once in a while, 2 cups. black.
2/19/2018 7:34:28 PM
1 cup every morning, work or no. Second cup around 2:00 pm, depending on how tired/bored I am. These numbers get thrown out the window if I have to get up extra early, or if I'm at a conference with free coffee. Because (a) free, and (b) conferences are the most soporific experience to which the working professional can be subjected.
2/19/2018 10:31:35 PM
5-6 cups when at home or in the office, a little less at clients since we usually have to go out to grab coffee
2/19/2018 11:38:12 PM
Preferably a 5 shot Americano followed by a cup black early/mid afternoon.
2/20/2018 12:54:44 AM
4-6 cups a day. Black.
2/21/2018 10:51:54 PM
Usually 4-5 cups.If it’s a long day, sometimes I fill my carafe up to the 10 cup line, then take the whole carafe to work.
2/21/2018 11:58:06 PM
^^&^ Cant imagine drinking that much! Usually 2, sometimes 1, and very rarely 3, one sugar packet, little half and halfI am thinking of quitting. Didn't have any today, might keep it going for a little while
9/21/2025 12:21:04 AM
when I say "cups" I'm talking about fill lines on the coffee makerI might fill it to 6 cups and drink it all, but that's really 2 big mugs.(half and half, but no sugar)
9/21/2025 4:06:26 AM
16 oz cold brew and usually one other. Probably something like 350mg of caffeine.Knew a guy in Seal training that did 1000mg. Would use the Starbucks Vio packs as dip.

None.It takes nasty. It's expensive.I don't require constant stimulants to function in life.I don't inadvertently support Colombian drug lords like Juan Valdez.

K

^^^^^just noticed on my maker, every 10oz is "2 cups" so your consumption doesn't seem too high now. I have 1-2 10oz cups a day, so 2-4 using those stupid ass lines
9/21/2025 10:08:03 AM
9/21/2025 10:37:42 AM
like three 16 oz mugs per day, at least
9/21/2025 10:59:39 AM
I removed most of the caffeine from my diet years ago but I'll sometimes have a soft drink here or there
9/21/2025 11:20:26 AM
Here or there like once a month or like once a quarter? Whats your soda of choice?
9/21/2025 11:27:15 AM
usually just a coke or pepsi at a restaurant
9/21/2025 11:31:27 AM
I typically get sprite if I get a soda at a restaurant because I try not to drink caffeine after noon anyways. Outside of coffee, green tea is my only other caffeine source, but I only have maybe 2-3 cups a month of that
9/21/2025 11:36:48 AM
I drink 0 cups of disgusting bean water a day
9/21/2025 11:39:37 AM
2-3x/year: cappuccino or some other milky coffee drink2-3x/week: some Chinese tea (pu'er, green, or white)2-3x/day: strong black tea with spices (cinnamon, cardamom, ginger) and soymilk[Edited on September 21, 2025 at 12:10 PM. Reason : ]

Probably way too much, usually 2 big cups a day (basically drinking coffee and water the whole time I work). I've stopped before for a week or two (but switched to tea, which still has some caffeine), and felt fine.Maybe I'll stop for a month and see if I feel any different
9/21/2025 2:56:51 PM
2 cups during breakfast. One more after arriving at the office. Then two more after lunch immediately.I know it’s a lot.
9/21/2025 5:44:01 PM
7 cups before 7:30am then a dew zero after lunch
9/21/2025 6:23:05 PM
Any of you have any short term negative side effects from quitting coffee and how long did they last?
9/22/2025 1:26:59 PM
YES. im about 45 days off caffiene.first 1 week was hell. tired, felt like i got hit by a car. brain fog etc.after week 2 it got better and my resting heart rate has improved quite a bit and i sleep better. coffee really aint good fer ya.i also quit alcohol, so my overall heatlh has improved nicely.next up: Zyns and THC
9/22/2025 2:08:32 PM
Ok. Def going through being tired...Today up at like 6:15, back asleep by 8:15, up at 9:15, immediately back to sleep til like 11:15. No alcohol since Aug 31, no nicotine since Nov 29, no THC since Aug 31...so this like the last thing I got. I had a green tea yesterday
9/22/2025 3:20:18 PM
^nice. just so you know, green tea has caffiene in it. so does decaf. i made it a point to eliminate all sources of caffiene because if i have matcha or cocoa i know ill be right back to 4 cups of regular coffee in no time. some people are OK with tea tho.
9/22/2025 3:26:38 PM
On average, less than 1. But I've had days of having 4-5 cups of coffee. It just depends on how accessible it is. I haven't ever noticed it affecting my ability to work, it's more so about it just being a hot drink.
9/22/2025 3:32:50 PM
^^I partly had it to ween myself off. Coffee i believe has 100mg of caffeine, green tea around half that. Def had a few headaches last few days. The other difficulty I have in not having stuff like green tea is that it is healthy...so it seems weird or wrong to limit something I know is healthy[Edited on September 22, 2025 at 3:34 PM. 9/22/2025 3:33:44 PM
If you're worried about healthy just drink water even if it's easier said than done
9/22/2025 4:44:08 PM
Water is very healthy!
9/22/2025 5:21:32 PM
Those sparkling ice drinks are good too
9/22/2025 5:53:25 PM
200-400 mg of caffeine before noon. Then mostly water the rest of the day.
