Quote : | "34-year-old Meredith Fitzmaurice was running the half-marathon event at the race Sunday when she made a wrong turn, putting her on the marathon course.
...after verifying that her marathon time would count toward Boston Marathon qualifying, she decided to run until the end.
Fitzmaurice finished the race in a time of 3:11:48, 10th overall and the best among women. The result qualified her for next April's Boston Marathon." |

I like to use common sense when thinking about this topic. The I think the human body is somewhat analogous to a machine. Like a hinge, the human joint can only be flexed a finite amount of times before they break down. They wear out event faster if their is any additional stress involved.
Marathons are silly to me. I'm sure it is a great accomplishment to finish one, but at what cost? I don't want to be restricted from doing things later in life because I abused my body by overexercising in my youth. I started being cautions in my twenties. Instead of the treadmill I would exercise on the elliptical. Instead of running I took up biking.
Attempting a marathon violates the rule of moderation. Its too much of one thing and that usually turns out bad.
In summary, don't over exercise, you are wearing out your body. Also, what a huge waste of time when you could be doing something more productive. 4/13/2014 11:33:13 PM
