I didn't make it to the gun show or to the Gun Appreciation Day...
Instead I was in a field near Creedmoor putting lead into some targets and clays. No complaints about being outside on such a nice day though.

More like, here is yet more evidence against the tired, old argument of "panic will set in and concealed-carriers will mistakenly shoot the wrong person."

I have never heard of that happening, and lo and behold, it didn't happen this time, either.

Do we know if this idiot was an NRA member?

I ask only because it seems as if he violated every applicable rule of gun safety.

CC is currently illegal in NC in any venue that requires you to pay an admission fee, so, legally, no one can CC in there anyway.

not to mention that your concealed handgun is your last resort. you should run like a bitch if you can.

Nothing, other than that the NRA's public stance is to constantly promote how their membership is composed of responsible gun owners who practice proper gun safety measures (which I am sure is true for a very large percentage of said members).

I'm curious how true that might be in this case.

There was no jumping. The original article I read specifically said that it was a LEO that was handling the gun when it miraculously went off. Obviously that's changed now.

^^ Every organization has their share of outliers. The larger the organization, the more
likely for my statement to be true.

I had read that too. If the statement is true, then the state is just covering their ass from lawsuits until the investigation report comes out.

I would only consider any discharge accidental if it was caused by some sort of mechanical failure or issue with the firearm. These are extremely rare. The vast majority of these are negligent discharges, which this one most certainly was.

While it doesn't explain the other incidents at gunshows yesterday I would like to know the make/model/AGE of the shotgun that discharged.

Many older shotguns are NOT drop safe in unaltered/new/factory condition. Any of us that have attended these shows know that old stuff is plentiful (sometimes even annoyingly so).

Those fucks manning the old shit tables are typically the ones most likely to sweep you with a barrel as well... So combine the most unsafe modern weapons with the most unsafe owners and you have this.

The other two shits shot themselves in the parking lots leaving didn't they? Loading their weapons on the way to the car upon leaving the shows?

Yep.

Or at least, it's a negligible fraction of occurances.

Like scary assault weapons, my scary sports cars have been statistically very safe.

Why don't you focus your attention on the great majority of drivers who are incompetent, inattentive, or both, and unsafe at any speed? Or the people speeding in cars without massive grip and brakes and without any idea how to handle a car?

Or, for that matter, people driving in the left lane without passing? This is probably the greatest detriment to highway safety aside from things that get plenty of attention (DUI, texting, etc)

these people annoy me to no end, and make me want to have a sign in my car that I can hold up to them that says "left lane for passing only!!!". But how do you figure they're "probably the greatest detriment to highway safety aside from...."?

Statistically? Cars are definitely more dangerous on the whole: far more people die in car accidents every year than in random gun accidents

statistically

^ TheDuke is just very arrogant when it comes to his own driving abilities. He seems to forget that there are people in vastly better cars than him who are vastly better drivers who push their cars to the limits who have wrecked their car and taken other people out.

^^ and they are the anomaly of anomalies and just about the absolute last thing you should be worried about on the road.

What, maybe 1 in 1000 drivers on the road is better than me, and maybe 1 in 1000 cars on the road are "better" than mine (in terms of performance capability)? How often do those drivers end up in those cars and cause a problem?

That was my original point--goalielax riding my nuts, as usual, is even more of an example of barking up the wrong tree than it is to be specifically focused on the weapons that are responsible for a nearly negligible amount of our legitimate gun violence problem.

If you want to unfuck our highways, I'm about #10,000 on the priority list.

The bar is set awfully low for drivers, and the handful of cars that will outperform a Z06 Corvette are awfully rare relative to the SUVs, Camrys, pickup trucks, Hyundais, that make up the vast, vast majority of what's on the road.

Oddly enough, those cars don't need to perform better than your rockin corvette at the speed limit.

And how do you quantitatively say you're better than every 1 in 1000 drivers? Hell, ex F1 driver Clay Regazzoli died after rear ending a lorry, and even while paralyzed, he was a better driver than you.

And let's assume you are a good driver, just because there are statistically less of you on the road, doesn't make your recklessness any less dangerous. Keep your shit on private tracks and off public roads.
