The most entertaining ones I follow on Twitter are Zack Ryder, Ziggler, CM Punk, Jericho. I also follow others like Piper, DDP (though most of his are just about his Yoga stuff), Hurricane Helms, Nash, HBK, Edge.

Three years in a row, Wade Barrett has tweeted about seeing Papa Shango getting coffee on the day of the Rumble. I said it was tired and he should at least make it the Godfather or Goodfather and BAM! The Godfather appears (although it would've been more fun as Papa Shango IMO).
I follow the four guys mentioned above, at least until Jericho goes on Fozzy tours. @WWECreative_ish is pretty good for a laugh, too.

watching the Royal Rumble from this past weekend for the first time:
-Jericho, YAY! -Santino eliminated first, BOO! -Goldust vs. Cody Rhodes (they should've had a short feud to put over Cody, sure both would've enjoyed it) -I hate David Otunga -I bet Albert/A-Train/Tensai wish he'd stayed Giant Bernard in New Japan -Brodus Clay got the Viscera "everyone gang up to get this guy out of the ring because it legitimately takes all of us to lift him out" treatment -Kofi jumping to land on Tensai's back was humorous, takes one shot from Ziggler, feigns being off balance and then obviously jumps to Tensai -the chair pogo stick spot though was good improvising, I think he was supposed to jump from the table back to the ring -THE HO TRAIN! -THE HO TRAIN GONE IN TWO SECONDS! -Khali is barely mobile at this point -cute way to eliminate the tag champs Kane and Bryan, I imagine they have to split them up soon for a possible Wrestlemania match between the two, on the other hand I feel bad for Bryan:
year 1 at Wrestlemania - match with Sheamus - kicked off the card last minute to the preshow, year 2 at Wrestlemania - world title match with Sheamus - open the show and lose in 18 seconds, year 3 at Wrestlemania - match with Kane
-ditto Otunga for Miz -even though he worked the whole match, Ziggler felt kinda anonymous, his 2 eliminations the whole night were a dropkick to Godfather and when he knocked out Jericho -they gave Ryback a lot, I imagine to make up for Cena beating him (Ryback's Wrestlemania feud is booked to be Jericho) -I'm going to have to remember how to hate John Cena being champion it looks, at least he's not had it for a very long time 1/30/2013 11:51:59 PM |

can someone explain WHY Kofi needed to use the chair like a pogo stick and not just use one leg to push himself back to the ring? I know it made for a better spot, but it seemed a lot more forced whereas his handstand spot made a lot more sense. 1/31/2013 9:01:22 AM |

I read somewhere that he was supposed to jump to the ring from the table, but had to improvise when it was obvious that shit wasn't going to happen. I, too, thought at the time he should just hop on one leg back to the ring but it made for a decent spot. 1/31/2013 9:39:32 AM |

^^^ Once he made the audible to the chair, it didn't occur to me that he could use one leg. Probably didn't to him, either.
I'm still not sure why he didn't get rid of the table cover. Obviously he had practiced the spot, so the distance should've been fine, but he was clearly worried about slipping on the cover.
With all that said, if he was getting booted as soon as the spot was over, who cares if he doesn't make the jump? 1/31/2013 6:13:21 PM |
AxlBonBach All American 45550 Posts user info edit post |
I read on one of those boards, either LOP or NoDQ, that the table was suppose to be stabilized, but instead that piece wasn't there and it was ready to break away... jumping would have possibly just caved the table in and left Kofi on the ground.
The one legged thing makes no sense though.... and it was obvious it was a blown spot by the fact that JBL, a heel announcer, was the one who gave his chair to Kofi. I actually thought for a moment they would go with the heel heat and have JBL push Kofi from the table... 1/31/2013 6:22:29 PM |

I'm waiting for one year those "he's eliminated! no he's not!" spots to backfire. Accidental Royal Rumble eliminations are one of those things I look for. Alex Riley had one a couple years ago when he was supposed to be involved in eliminating Cena (in the runup to the Cena-Miz Wrestlemania match).
Undertaker may not work Wrestlemania this year.

The beauty of JBL as a heel announcer is that he can play both sides. He can call Cole a stooge for yelling about the Shield interfering in the match, then put the Rock over like crazy as he lifts the belt. By the same token, he can give a face his chair to stay in the match, needing only to say, "I figured he'd blow it, and I wanted to see that" if Kofi makes it back to the ring. 1/31/2013 10:56:17 PM |

http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/fandom/post/_/id/17789/wwe-to-induct-bruno-sammartino-into-hof
WWE released this to ESPN:
Quote : | "Bruno Sammartino is to professional wrestling what Babe Ruth is to baseball.
The legendary grappler is the longest reigning WWE (then WWF) champion of all-time, with two title reigns spanning an eye-popping 11-plus years. And his legacy of headlining Madison Square Garden over 200 times is what turned the Italian-born brawler into a worldwide sensation. So it’s only fitting that Sammartino will be the main attraction at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony on April 6 at MSG. “Being inducted into the Hall of Fame at Madison Square Gardens is the biggest thing in my life,” Sammartino said in an exclusive interview for ESPN Playbook. “Any time that people feel that you accomplished enough to enter into a Hall of Fame, of course this is a tremendous, tremendous thrill for me. I had a lot of my success due to appearing at the Garden. I wrestled there over 200 times, it’s where I won the title, and it’s where I picked up 630-plus pounds of Haystacks Calhoun.” And while Sammartino had turned down the WWE’s previous offers of inducting him into its Hall of Fame due to a well-documented feud with the wrestling organization’s CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon over a wide range of issues -- from Sammartino not liking the vulgar direction the product took during the Attitude Era to Sammartino’s criticism of drug abuse by members of the roster back in the 80s -- it was WWE executive Paul Levesque (aka Triple H) who stepped in and finally changed the legend’s mind. “In talking to Paul Levesque, I made it clear, I’ve had issues with WWE and wrestling in general, because there were other organizations,” Sammartino said. “I didn’t like the direction they had taken. It was bothersome to me. I’m an old-school guy. I spent 25 years in this business. But after talking to Paul, and him explaining to me the changes they’ve made in their program, and how they’ve hired a doctor like Dr. Maroon, who is a world renowned neurosurgeon, who also operated on me, and now that he has been put in charge of the company’s wellness program and their drug testing, that impressed me. I know what kind of a man he is, and he is a giant in that field, so I take my hat off to WWE because they took such huge steps to make things better for the wrestlers themselves and making sure they are healthy to perform. That was very, very important. “But as Paul explained to me, WWE made a lot of other changes. There’s no more profanity, there’s no vulgarity in the current product, and that stuff had bothered me as well. When Paul first spoke to me and told me all the changes, I started watching it again and I was very convinced that they are doing amazing things. I see the wrestlers and all the changes they made. There’s no profanity, there’s no vulgarity, and it’s a family-friendly program. That’s what it used to be, and that’s a huge role in the whole factor.” In finally signing Sammartino, WWE sees this as an opportunity to not only celebrate everything he has done for the business, but to add legitimacy to its Hall of Fame. “From a legitimacy standpoint, it’s important for us to get Bruno in,” Levesque said. “He’s one of the biggest names there has ever been in the business. So for us to not have him in there, for the legitimacy of the whole thing, it was a major issue. For me, the more important thing was that nobody deserves to be recognized for being a big star and paving the way for the stars of today more than Bruno. Everything that we have today in the business, Bruno was a cornerstone of that foundation. He truly is a living legend. “As we started getting into Hall of Fame season, it’s almost like this storyline wrote itself. To have Bruno Sammartino brought into the Hall of Fame in Madison Square Garden, a building he sold out more than anybody in the world, that’s a remarkable achievement. It was an opportunity to honor Bruno, but it was also an opportunity for our fans. “There has been this bad blood between Bruno and the WWE for years, and we’re not trying to hide any of it, but I just felt like we are at a point where a lot of it can be resolved. Our wellness program and the way our programming is now, a lot of people are unaware of it, so I felt like if I could get Bruno on the phone and I could run down a list of those things that he didn’t like, I could show him how we changed. We’re PG, family-friendly entertainment with a wellness program that is truly based on the wellness of our performers. We want them to be healthy and live long, productive lives. So I just felt that if Bruno knew about those things, he might feel differently, and eventually, that’s what came to be.” While Bruno has accepted the WWE’s offer to make an appearance at the Hall of Fame, he still hasn’t had the chance to speak to Vince McMahon, as Levesque is organizing a sit-down so the two can resolve any lingering issues face-to-face. “Clearly, Vince knew about this right from the get-go, and when I said I wanted to reach out to Bruno, Vince was probably thinking, ‘Well, good luck with that,’” Levesque said. “So Bruno and I established this relationship and as we came to an understanding on all of this, Vince asked me, ‘Hey, do you think I should call Bruno? I’d like to talk to him.’ At the same time, Bruno said, ‘Do you think I should have a conversation with Vince?’ And I said no to both of them. I didn’t think it was right to do over the phone. They had bad blood for a long time, and we’ve all kind of buried the hatchet here, and it’s a new beginning and a fresh start and everybody is in a great place with this, but going back to what Bruno said about being old school, I think we should all get in the same room together and the two of them should look each other in the eyes and shake hands. This should be in person. I don’t think it’s right to do over the phone. They both agreed to do that, and while it hasn’t happened yet, Hall of Fame is probably where we’ll make that happen. Vince and Bruno will see each other for the first time in years and officially, in person, look each other in the eyes and bury that hatchet.” As for trying to keep the announcement a secret, “it’s not ‘Mission Impossible’ or anything like that,” laughs Levesque, “but to me, Bruno getting into the Hall of Fame in Madison Square Garden is the biggest induction we’ve ever done, and rightfully so. He deserves that. So to just have it leak out there, that would’ve been wrong. This is a huge moment in time, and a massive moment for our fans, for Bruno, and for WWE. This is the history of our business. Without Bruno Sammartino, we aren’t where we are today.”" |
Amazing person if you're like most and never heard of him. He was a sickly boy in the Italian mountains hiding from the Germans with World War II raging around him. After moving to the U.S. post-war with his mother and brother, getting picked on all the time, he wanted to be stronger to take care of himself, so he started bodybuilding and got an impressive physique. Later on he got into wrestling. He's 77 years old and still benches 200. He was champion of the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF, which was then pretty much the Northeast territory, ran by the current Vince McMahon's father, Vince McMahon Sr.) from 1963 to 1971 and 1973 to 1977 being a massive draw for them.

While I am ecstatic that Bruno is getting in, and consider this the most important inductee since Hogan... there's no way that Sammartino can be considered the Babe Ruth of Wrestling. That's Hogan's spot. No disrespect to Bruno, but Hogan was on another level.
That said, Bruno was great for his time.
Also, look up Sammartino's later matches against Larry Zbyszko. Freakin awesome, and the origin of his nickname "the Legend"

If I was made dictator of WWE, I'd get rid of the Intercontinental title and U.S. title, and change the name of the World Heavyweight Championship to the Intercontinental title, because the World Heavyweight Championship is clearly less than the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship of 2013 is effectively equal to the Intercontinental Championship of 20 years ago.

some interesting talking points re TNA roster, from the guy that first broke the Penn State Sandusky scandal :
http://www.wrestlezone.com/editorials/267507-low-budget
Quote : | "It seems safe to assume that Impact Wrestling will never break big. A modicum of success is probably the best that can be hoped for.
That’s OK. There’s still money to be made. Still a product to be sharpened.
The money mark has tried the Hogan/Bischoff way of doing things. It’s cost her a pretty penny, with zero tangible results. Now she's inexplicably spending even more by taking the TV show on the road. BAD IDEA.
It’s time to try the Jarrett/Lawler way of doing things: Cut payroll until you show profit. Trim the fat. You’re not running a charity. YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO MAKE MONEY. For a wrestling promotion, there is no greater good.
Impact did a 1.2 last week. With the roster adjustments I suggest, Impact would still do 1.1s and 1.2s while slashing expenditures and streamlining the product. A smaller roster means more concise booking and better character development.
It should, anyway.
All talent listed (except Aces & Eights) is on the talent roster posted at ImpactWrestling.com. I thought some are gone already, but most of those are so bad they deserve to be fired twice.
IN-Abyss, A.J. Styles, Austin Aries, Bobby Roode, Bully Ray, Chavo Guerrero, Christopher Daniels, Hernandez, James Storm, Jeff Hardy, Kazarian, King Mo, Kurt Angle, Magnus, Matt Morgan, Robbie E, Samoa Joe, Zema Ion.
Those are your regulars. Others could be (and would be) brought back occasionally on a per-night basis. But build around those 18 wrestlers. (King Mo is excess baggage, but he keeps Spike happy, and Bellator’s probably paying the freight.)
OUT-Aces & Eights (all of ‘em), Alex Silva, Brooke Hogan, Chris Sabin, Christian York, Christy Hemme, Crimson, Doug Williams, Garett Bischoff, Gunner, Hector Guerrero, Hulk Hogan, Jesse Sorenson, Jessie Godderz, Joey Ryan, Kenny King, Mr. Anderson, Rob Terry, Rob Van Dam, Rockstar Spud, Sam Shaw, Sting, Taz, Wes Brisco, Willie Urbina.
That’s over two dozen paychecks 86’d. A ton of money saved, and the promotion wouldn’t suffer. NOT ONE BIT.
My announce team is Mike Tenay and Todd Keneley. Jeremy Borash handles interviews and ring announcing.
All of the Knockouts get ditched, but are brought back per-night as needed. It’s not like they can go anywhere else and work. If you feel the need to keep 2-3 under contract, fine. I’m not sure it makes any difference which three.
Let’s address some of the terminated:
Aces & Eights: They mean nothing. They are nothing. WWE rejects and bums. The Garett/Brisco turn: SNORE. Eric Bischoff as their leader will make it even worse. “Eric finally gets to be the leader of a bike gang! YAY!”
Brooke Hogan: Totally useless unless you’re doing a remake of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” “Come on up to the lab…maybe see what’s on the slab.”
Christy Hemme: Hot chick. Her ring announcing does not add one thing to the program or cause even one extra person to tune in.
Hulk Hogan: Huge drain on payroll who sucks the life out of the promotion by bigfooting every show. Can’t work, but is on top of the card. Hogan’s family crest should read: “Taking more than giving since 1994, brother.”
Joey Ryan: Take sleazy somewhere else, Harry Reems. An example of how the IWC badly overrates in their sad desperation to anoint new stars.
Kenny King: Exhibit B.
Mr. Anderson: I called this back when he was Mr. Kennedy. A weak-jawed, flabby loser who defines tame, tedious and trite. Steve Austin got this one wrong.
Rob Van Dam: I’m not anti-RVD. I just don’t think he helps much, and I’m sure he doesn’t work cheap. I’d retain him at a (very) reduced rate.
Sting: This is my toughest call. Sting is a pro’s pro, and has a ton of credibility. The makeup helps retard the perception of him aging. Here’s the problem: I don’t know what Sting gets paid, but I bet it’s a lot, and I can’t imagine him being worth it. But I could be persuaded to change my mind on this one.
Taz: Taz was a decent announcer in WWE. Perhaps he was helped by being coached through his headset. But he’s brutal with Impact, and why doesn’t matter. Taz reminds me of Bobby Heenan and Gene Okerlund: When they were in WWE, they were the best at what they did. They jumped to WCW for big money, but thought the promotion was beneath them, and tanked on a regular basis.
Eric Bischoff is not on Impact’s roster, but he’s there, and he’s got to go, too. He and Hogan are the founding fathers of all this overpriced tedium.
There it is: A blueprint for making money. Or at least losing less. You might say it wouldn’t make Impact better. I say it couldn’t possibly make it worse." |
Pretty much agree on who he keeps, guys like Hernandez I'm indifferent to and if we're picking muscleheads, I'd rather keep Rob Terry than Matt Morgan. But I'd keep Gunner, Sting, Doug Williams (a good low card guy to work with newbies, he could be the TNA Iron Mike Sharpe) of the ones they say to get rid of. And please do get rid of Mr. Anderson. Hector Guerrero and Willie Urbina is their Spanish announcer crew, so I don't think they're really negotiable.
Some of the guys he says to get rid of are their recent "Gut Check winners". I think you do need to keep some guys around you can try to develop homegrown.

I find Robbie E. super entertaining, but I recognize the stupidity there.
Anderson is fucking atrocious. It took me a while to realize he floated on a brilliant gimmick in WWE for years (meaning I thought he could talk, and he can't at all). 2/5/2013 12:52:44 PM |

when was the last time Sabin was on TV semi-regular? on his last match he got injured, but that was awhile ago, and I believe he'd only been back a month or so after coming back from his injury before that; his style isn't something that lends itself to longevity; his tag partner Alex Shelley is wrestling in Ring of Honor I believe and New Japan, so he can't reform the Motor City Machineguns anyway
TNA's way of getting rid of talent is to just let their contracts expire it appears. They have let some people go in the past year that way: Scott Steiner, Ric Flair, the Pope, Alex Shelley, Eric Young. Devon's contract was up and then he came back.
Just noticed something look at that list: I guess Jeff Jarrett is no longer considered TNA talent.

WCW also fired by way of allowing contracts to expire, except in the case of people who were horrifically injured in a WCW ring. Those people were fired via FedEx while they were in the hospital. 2/5/2013 4:43:24 PM |
