White ball or pistol grip on the old Gal's shifter? I think the white ball would look better but the pistol grip is cool too because it wouldn't slip out of your hand so easy... Or .... "Because race car" 6/13/2013 5:07:20 AM |

It's not a Mopar.
Pistol grip would be sacrilege.

See that was my thought too but almost every 60s race car and most current nostalgia cars had a pistol grip or a t handle. I don't like t handles and I agree that I think the gunball is most appropriate (I may use a 4 speed one lol)
But I am attracted to a modern hurst pistol grip. But yes a wooden old school one would be sacrilege for sure.
Still pretty sure ill just go with the white ball. 6/13/2013 7:19:20 AM |

Drove the bird about a hundred miles yesterday in the heat...
So much i got sunburned and the car ran absolutely fine..
Got hot at a couple stoplights but if i put her in neutral and reved it up a little she cooled back down. Do you think it's water flow or fan flow ? I'm thinking fan. 6/27/2013 10:26:45 AM |

I'd rather not I really wish I could put a smaller pulley in it and maybe a 7 blade fan ?
I'm trying to keep the bird looking like it could have come this way stock ya know ? 6/27/2013 12:03:26 PM |
Dr Pepper All American 3583 Posts user info edit post |
I'd look at just increasing blade count, that pulley change would probably be 'felt' 6/27/2013 12:12:55 PM |

Blade count up and a flex fan so she flattens out some at rpm? 6/27/2013 1:16:09 PM |
zxappeal All American 26824 Posts user info edit post |
Lovely idea. Better than stock, and if you're really worried about appearances, you could paint said flex fan with some black bumper paint. For flex, ya know.
I still prefer an electric fan/thermostat combo, with a good shroud. MUCH better than stock, no noise going down the road.
What kinda condition is your radiator in?
Original Y-block? 6/27/2013 1:34:16 PM |
sumfoo1 soup du hier 41043 Posts user info edit post |
It was replaced in the 90s with a 4 core copper that was then hit with a bent fan blade and repaired it is the original y block rebuilt in the 90s. I was young when we did it but I don't rember dad having the block prepped in anyway, I'm sorta affraid the water jacket is covered in rust.
Who's electric fan kit would you use ? I've heard some move tons of air in free air but can't draw shit trough a radiator. 6/27/2013 7:47:50 PM |

My bad, I didn't mean "you" as an "OP". I meant it as "an arbitrary person. This guy is selling artificially distressed cars for what some of these cars can be probably picked up from someone's backyard in the condition that he tries to simulate. And these things are sold out. Only in America. One of them was a galaxy like yours 7/1/2013 7:50:47 PM |

Igor All American 6672 Posts user info edit post |
damn, it's still not quite clear from my previous post what i really meant, now that I re-read it. The cars in my link ar 1/24th size MODELS, artificially distressed to look like the real junkers.
Quote : | "Inspired by the memories of mid 20th-century auto design, Classic Wrecks founder and model master John Findra takes a decidedly philosophical approach to his love of cars—by finding the beauty in their decay. After searching out and photographing full-sized examples of rusted out “junkers,” Findra studies each one to faithfully recreate distressed details like rust holes, peeling paint, broken glass, and dripping rust marks. The result is a one-of-a-kind handmade model that does more than replicate a car left to the elements; it tells a story." |
Anyhow, props to this guy for thinking outside the box. Based on the number of sold-out models, there a market out there for these things. I'm gonna take away my neighbour's kids's Hot Wheels tomorrow and set them out to rust on the balcony. Maybe even step on them once or twice for a good measure.7/2/2013 12:17:16 AM |

So I got a galaxie partially to get something different so I'm not driving just another old car. Since I purchased mine I've had 3 friends get them... Kinda makes me sad face.
Granted mine is the only one with wings. I got mine (352 car) and started my build then a buddy got his (390 car) I think trying to 1 up some (not knowing I'd already ordered a 427 block) and now that they know I'm building a 427 the most recent guy picked up a 428 car thinking he now has the king dingaling engine (cause he's a dumbass and doesn't know that a base model 428 is just a truck engine). It's gonna be fun when I'm like 345 hp... Aww isn't that cute...
I mean I'm not really upset cause my car is still going to be my favorite by a long shot.... But what the fuck ? Who wants a galaxie ? And now everyone does... I'm more disappointed that no one picked up something different and cool in its own right... 10/9/2013 2:29:41 PM |

There might not be as many restored as Impalas, but it's not like you're building out a Rambler Rebel or something.
Personally I love Galaxies. '64 500/XL is probably top ten all time, but I think the '61 is pretty badass too. And I love the fact that yours is a 4-door, that way way waaay ups the unique factor.10/10/2013 4:43:08 PM |
