A double switch certainly isn't hard, but only one league has to even contemplate it. There's just no thinking in the AL. Throw your pitcher til he gets in trouble. Hit your 9 best hitters. Who even needs a bench unless somebody gets hurt 4/12/2013 11:56:32 AM |

Seriously. What are you even talking about? Year-long interleague play was the only option once they did the sensible thing and evened up the leagues.

DH is for pussies, but interleague play makes it an inevitability in the NL.
btw, DH means designated hitter, bdmazur
And btw means by the way

I just want them to have a universal set of rules, either DH or not. It's one of those things that is unique to baseball, and idiotic. 4/12/2013 12:44:50 PM |

This.
And I would love fewer games in a season. Take an extra day or two between series, you'll see the best pitchers more frequently. Better rested players also means fewer injuries ruining a good season in August.4/12/2013 4:29:49 PM |

I mean we could also go down to like 16 teams.. That'd let you see the best pitchers and hitters 4/12/2013 6:28:06 PM |

^ That is a ridiculous catch. I assume that is Ben Revere?
As for the DH argument, I like the current setup with the NL not having it and the AL having it. It allows each league to be a little different and prolongs some player's careers.
Trying to take it out of the game completely will lead to a player strike, adding it in both leagues will lead to more traditionalists/fans to stop caring about baseball. With interleague, just continue with the current rules where NL teams use the DH in AL parks and vice versa.
I personally like NL play though as it lead to more strategy throughout the game. 4/16/2013 10:07:44 AM |

this mainly just applies to older players...nobody really comes up through high school, (college), minor leagues and doesn't have the ability to play 1B or RF...DH is nice because you can give a player like a Catcher the day off from catching but still have his bat...helps with wear and tear4/16/2013 3:11:27 PM |

Except plenty of people are told "if you can hit they'll find a place to put you" and a some people are really damn bad at fielding (brad hawpe comes to mind, like a -3 dwar)
And that tony Gwynn video is hilarious 4/16/2013 5:30:15 PM |

Except that there have been players who are used 99% of the time as DH's always in the AL MVP discussion.
In my mind, if you can't help your team defensively then you aren't that valuable.
I also wouldn't give a pitcher any MVP votes because they only play in 1/5 of the games and rarely help at bat. 4/16/2013 5:39:30 PM |

For what it's worth, a starting pitcher's batters faced is typically far higher than a batter's plate appearances, so you can argue that they have more effect than batters

Yeah I mean, a pitcher throws about 1/7 of the innings (if they're around 200) and a hitter hits 1/9 or 1/10 of ABs.. Nobody's really worth a shit in baseball 4/16/2013 5:46:18 PM |

Quote : | "A spitball is a (now illegal) baseball pitch, in which the ball has been altered by the application of saliva, petroleum jelly, or some other foreign substance. Current Red Sox Pitcher, Clay Buchholz, throws a spitter on a nightly basis and has yet to be reprimanded by the MLB." |
