FYI for anyone who has Time Warner and isn't aware, they dropped Showtime.
Edit: Just to be clear, it's because they're currently negotiating contracts and TWC doesn't like what the company that owns Showtime is asking for from them.
I'm sure it will be resolved eventually... but perhaps not before this Sunday night. And Showtime gave them the option of continuing to provide Showtime (and CBS which is also owned by the same company) until they reach a deal, but TWC decided to just cut it.

Interesting. Hannah shows up but the previews for the next one give up that she doesn't do anything to Dexter or Deb and is somehow hiding behind her husband? Now he's going to apprentice the rich kid? You've gotta be kidding me. How many episodes are left? I don't feel like they're close to wrapping anything up at this point. 8/5/2013 10:44:43 AM |

also from the preview, it looks like the kid will start drawing attention to Dexter and he's already blown it with the neighbor chick it looks like. I'm hoping the kid plot doesn't pan out to anything and he dies soon, although if he gets caught he could easily roll over on Dexter. So now we have: Deb, Vogel, Hannah, the kid, and the Julia Stiles chick all knowing his dark secret.
Loved this part:

So I guess "Zach" - Season 1 begins next year?
It does seem this season is starting to get bogged down on new characters. They may be throwing too much at people for this to be the final season. Hard to see how they will wrap everything up without it feeling hurried or a big let down for at least some of the characters.
And what was the point of Hannah poisoning Dexter and Debra if she wasn't going to do anything to them? Just to fuck with them and prove she can get to them at any time? Maybe Hannah will be Dexter's first lesson to Zach. 8/5/2013 7:20:57 PM |

You guys are killing me with the preview spoilers sans spoiler tags.
That said, taking this kid under his wing is pretty up there with the dumbest thing he's done. Killing him didn't seem like the brightest idea considering Quinn would know that Dexter would have seen him alive just before he went missing. But keeping him around is pretty crazy too considering Quinn is watching the kid, and would likely see him and Dexter interacting.
They have too much going on with side characters imo. I guess we're only half way through the season, so plenty of time for things to happen. But all of these new characters AND bringing back an old character seems like a little much.
I'm gonna be disappointed if the stuffed animal leads to Dexter's downfall.

at least they tied some things up and we got to see some tits.
I'm actually a fan of Hannah, so if Dexter and her sail off into the sunset, I'd be cool with that. How the hell is she going to get away with it though? The first thing the cops would do is look at her cell phone records, whether they believe her alias or not, and tie it to Dexter. I think Deb's boss is going to find out about her and/or Dexter at some point though. Deb was looking crazy as hell when she saw Hannah so maybe it won't end that way because for it to be happy, he'd need Deb, the girl he loves (Hannah) and Harrison.
This season is way more anticlimactic than I thought it would be. Maybe they should have just found a way to end with the Trinity killer or the Tom Hanks son killer. 8/12/2013 12:56:06 PM |

^ what kind of disappoints me is that they had a pretty interesting set up with Vogel (effectively his creator) showing up. That was an interesting angle.
I'm not surprised at all that Hannah is back. i sort of expected as much. And I like her as well, so that doesn't bother me. But now Vogel's involvement has really taken a back seat and isn't driving the story.
There are still about 5hrs to go I think. But I'd like the tension to really ramp up. It just feels like another season of Dexter (which had gotten sort of bland) as opposed to a series ending season.

at least it got exciting. I don't know why Vogel would just out herself like that but very interesting indeed. I'm still a fan of the Dexter and Hannah sailing off into the sunset and now Deb is seemingly on board. They're really hinting at the notion that Dexter no longer needs to kill, or at least has urges stronger than killing now.
I thought that when he questioned the kid about the murder, he just let it go without much further thought or explanation as to who killed his neighbor if it wasn't him. Do we have any idea? Quinn maybe trying to frame the rich kid, but that would be pretty out of character even for Quinn.
What if Deb's boss gets too close to Hannah and Dexter has to take him out even if he's an innocent? Then kills himself? I've never considered a suicide scenario. 8/19/2013 1:30:03 PM |

Man, I hope Deb's boss doesn't play a major role in the conclusion of this series. He's like barely introduced or developed--they just need to do one more thing to make him likable and then use him for death count. Otherwise, I'm wondering how they could make his involvement meaningful. 8/19/2013 2:47:26 PM |

Quote : | "Do we have any idea? Quinn maybe trying to frame the rich kid, but that would be pretty out of character even for Quinn. " |
The other possibility is the brain surgeon. S/he clearly had been following them, aware of both Dexter and Zach, and likely knew about Zach and the other woman he killed.
There's no way Quinn would kill an innocent woman to frame anyone. Now, is it possible he would plant evidence on an already dead woman... yeah. But not kill her.
Quote : | "I hope Deb's boss doesn't play a major role in the conclusion of this series. " |
Yeah, he's gotten way too much screen time and what not for him to not play a big part in everything.
And I'm so glad they didn't keep on with the idea that Yates was the brain surgeon. That would have annoyed the shit out of me.
Someone made a good point a couple of pages back about how it would be unfair to the view if Vogel was the brain surgeon because she received a text before getting some pieces of brain. But I can't help but think she may be involved more.
If not, there is still something off about her. She is WAY too comfortable with a bunch of people who are known psychopaths. That dinner was like her and Dexter at the head of the table for the little psychopath family. And she had an interesting reaction when Hannah asked about what made her interested in her field of study. She seemed shaken by it.
I seem to recall them making it clear that she encouraged Yates to have that brain surgery. And that brain surgery which she advocated for, is similar to what is being performed. The red herring with Yates was that he had a scar pattern that matched the cuts on the victims. But what if he is really just a lesser victim of the person inflicting those cuts (even if the one on Yates wasn't by her own hands)?
Vogel is extremely comfortable with and trusting of psychopaths She was driven into her field of study by what was hinted at as being a traumatic experience She knows everything there is to know about being a serial killer
I wonder if the brain surgeon victims were known criminals. I wonder if she created the code for herself and simply taught it to Harry and Dexter. And of course, Dexter would fit her code. And she knows everything about him. Including how he "works" since she watched how he hunted down several of her previous patients. Or maybe all of them were patients of Vogels.
I'm not saying I think it's her. But I think that would be an interesting way to wrap it up and I like the idea. It would make her involvement truly significant in the series and not just a plot device. Afterall, if the brain surgeon is just someone random to Dexter, this is just another season of Dexter with another killer who he tracks all season. And if that's the case, Vogel is just a plot device.
I'm actually really hoping it turns out to be Vogel now. And the text thing could be explained. I'm sure you can schedule a text to be sent. And it would have been worthwhile to further convince Dexter to help her. Because I'm pretty sure that is when she got the "his and hers" pieces that finally got him to fully commit.8/19/2013 6:23:36 PM |

i just watched that scene again. There really isn't any good way to explain away the text and her reaction (grabbing a letter opener to use as a weapon, obvious fear, and no one around to be pretending for)
I do think she is involved, and it all probably revolves around the "incident long ago that I won't bore you with." I'm guessing maybe she had a kid of her own that turned out to be psycho, she experimented on him, has since thought he was dead, or something along those lines.8/19/2013 9:20:46 PM |

How the hell can it be Vogel?
Didn't she get a phone call or text telling her to look outside (while she was home by herself so this would have been for the benefit of absolutely no one other than the audience) and saw two gift wrapped brain pieces outside her front door?
If she ends up being the brain surgeon, then the writers should never work again. 8/19/2013 9:22:07 PM |

one other thing i was thinking about- something struck me about the music that was playing when Dexter came in to find the body, after i looked it up, i saw it was “Make Your Own Kind of Music” and that it was the 3rd time that song has played in a scene this season (first when the one guy was forced to suffocate the person at gun point by the real brain surgeon killer, second right before Vogel's apartment was broken into and she was kidnapped ), and it just happens to be the title of next weeks episode. The song is performed by "Mamma" Cass Eliot, I'm definitely thinking Vogel is the mother of the real killer, probably Cassie's boyfriend 8/19/2013 11:38:59 PM |

ah, ok.. i thought the scene when she got the text happened when Dexter was there. Which would be a decent reason to fake a text. If she was alone, that wouldn't make any sense obviously. I just hate the idea of this being just another serial killer vs serial killer season. Vogel being involved would make it better imo.
Whoever mentioned the guy dating Cassie (the neighbor), that is kind of interesting. Whoever is doing it obviously knows where Dexter lives. It's not unreasonable that he would have noticed and pursued Cassie to be near him/screw with him. And that guy definitely saw Zack/Zach with Dexter on the balcony, so that could be how he figured out that Zach was involved, if not for seeing him with Dexter elsewhere. And it would all make sense of why he told Quinn he didn't recognize him -- then again, maybe he really didn't recognize him. 8/19/2013 11:59:23 PM |

I definitely think Vogel is involved / knows the serial killer, but there is no way its her. She's way too frail and physically weak to have been able to get away with all those kills.
The guy that was dating Cassie is as good a suspect as anyone, but I have a feeling its gonna be someone we're not expecting. They threw us for quite a loop last episode, so who knows what to expect. 8/20/2013 12:31:31 AM |

Saw this on another board, I don't think we've discussed this angle:
Quote : | "It appears obvious Hannah has been setting up Dexter to take the fall for her husband’s murder. The drop of blood on his neck after she dumped him on the side of the road, the comments about his missing a drop of blood when he cleaned up after hubbie’s murder, the comment to Zach about just one drop of blood. I think she set the whole thing up to get even for his sending her to jail." |
I just don't see her turning him in though, she's already got what she needs to vacate.
Quote : | "I'm definitely thinking Vogel is the mother of the real killer, probably Cassie's boyfriend" |
I re-watched the episode and the boyfriend does seem pretty suspect. He was "late" picking up Cassie and just said he was at a building inspection and we don't know about any follow up. The only thing that doesn't fit right is why would he bludgeon Cassie to death? It had to be somebody Cassie knew to get that deep into her apartment, and probably unplanned since they used a statue to beat her with, so maybe she was onto him and he snapped and he left to clean off the blood and then came back? Dude also definitely saw Zach and has every motive to say he hadn't seen him, especially if he was staking him out to kill him.
I'm on board with Vogel being the mother of a killer, or being "born in blood" some way like Dexter (the incident she hinted at) and creating the code for herself or a loved one. I'm also not completely dismissing the idea that she could be Dexter's real mother or aunt or something either but it's quite a stretch.
***PREVIEW SPOILER***
Dexter mentions containing the "messanger" and then you see him inject what appears to be Vogel so she's either involved directly, or he's using her as bait to lure out the brain surgeon.
Dexter also finds a drop of blood under the desk in his office.
Also, the US Marshall knows that Dexter was with Hannah, so this also adds to my theory that they'll sail off into the sunset together - maybe even Argentina like Dexter mentions earlier.
***OTHER? SPOILER***
The next episoded are titled: "Make Your Own Music" (Vogel allusion) "Goodbye Miami" (Hannah or both of them on the run?" - the preview clip for next week shows them making preparations to leave Miami, maybe not together, but she is concerned about money (mentions needing half a million dollars and Dexter says he can't get her that much) "Monkey in a Box" - no idea. "Remember the Monsters?" - no idea. Maybe has to do with Harrison fearing "monsters" in previous episodes?
