a bunch of high efficiency, low salary guys that have insane numbers if you extrapolate them to 48 minutes.
Demo is prolly the best superstar nobody has heard of. The ideal face player.
All that and they have one of the lowest salalries, youngest age in the entire nba but still made the playoffs and looked pretty good.

Reasons for optimism -Supposedly great defensive coach -Seems to have paid his dues in the NBA (unlike Dunlap) -Helped develop Howard into a great big man (good for Bismack) -Highly endorsed by Van Gundy (which is a good thing, maybe?)
Reasons for pessimism -Ehhh ... who the hell is this guy? -Seriously, I can't find hardly anything on him.
Other stuff that may or may not be good -Supposedly wants to hire Patrick Ewing as a top assistant, which gives the team someone players respect on the bench (and again, good for Bismack) 5/27/2013 6:50:07 PM |

TRADE RUMORS:
-Minn trying to trade former #2 pick Derrick Williams. They'd probably want the Hornets' #4 pick in return. This could give the Hornets a fixture at PF for a decade. Williams hasn't played up to his potential, but he's still more talented than anyone in this draft.
-Houston trying to trade Thomas Robinson (top five pick last year). Could probably be had for a future late 1st round pick; maybe even a future second rounder. The Rockets are looking to unload him to clear cap space to sign Dwight Howard. Robinson had a rough rookie season, but he's still a rebounding machine and athletic freak. Might be worth a chance if the Hornets can get him for pennies.
-Kings reportedly trying to trade DeMarcus Cousins, who has become one of the league's best centers (and biggest thugs). What a beautiful mess it would be to bring him to Charlotte. I don't want any part of it, but he'd help the team more than any player in this draft.

Huh? Derrick williams wouldn't go lottery in this draft the dude is terrible. Guy is nearly unplayable.
Thomas Robinson was completely unplayable this year. Guy might be out of the league in two years.
And cousins is one of the top centers on what planet? Hes been terrible too although hes definitely talented if he ever figures out how to be a productive player. It could happen but why risk it? 6/3/2013 7:45:49 PM |
Maverick1024 All American 4866 Posts user info edit post |
Derrick Williams the prospect would go #1 in this draft. Williams the NBA player is another story.
He hasn't been "terrible." He's been underwhelming for a #2 pick, but not terrible. Injuries hurt him, plus the fact he's a tweener -- not quick enough for SF, but physical enough for PF (though he's a much better PF). Problem is that the Wolves best player, Kevin Love, also plays PF. Williams has still got big-time potential, and he's only 22. If the Hornets can swap their #4 pick for Minn's #9 plus Derrick Williams, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Robinson was pretty bad this past year the few times he got on the court. He's got to find a mid-range jumper, or he'll be nothing more than a bench player his whole career. But he's still an athletic freak, a great rebounder, and as physical as they get. If the Hornets can get him for a future 2nd round pick, why not? Could at least be a decent PF behind McBob next year.
I don't like Cousins at all, but he's one of the most powerful Centers in the league. He averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds per game last year. But he still has a lot of growing up to do. There's a reason the Kings want to trade him ... NBA teams don't shop legit centers very often. 6/4/2013 10:37:18 AM |

I'd probably grab a Mclemore or Oladipo if I were Cho, but with the team's history I'll assume they do something like drafting Len

I think people mad at the pick are forgetting that you're not going to get a franchise-changing player in this draft. If you can find a solid role player and borderline all-star, that's pretty darn good. Zeller is that guy.
You know what you're getting with Zeller. An athletic, super-fluid big man who can run the floor. He's supposedly a great shooter too; just never got to showcase it in IU's offense. He'll never be a star or a defensive force, but there's almost zero risk with him because of his character, work ethic, yada yada.
I'm fine with taking him over Noel or Len. Noel is a stick with zero offense and a bum knee. Len never did much at Maryland and has an injury that derails a lot of big-man careers. I wanted Oladipo, but he was long gone.
That said, I still think I would have gone McLemore over Zeller. With his shooting and athleticism, he's the one guy in this draft that seems capable of becoming a superstar. I know he supposedly has off-the-court issues and sucked during workouts, but I still think he's gonna be a good one. At best, he's early Vince Carter or Ray Allen. At his worst he seems like great "3 and D" guy ala Danny Green and Aaron Afflalo.
Oh well. Go Zeller. 6/28/2013 1:51:40 PM |

in fairness to zeller his strength and athleticism numbers are much better than you expect, I know it's just the combine but still 6/28/2013 2:06:03 PM |

The main problem with the pick isnt necessarily zeller. He has an decent chance at being a rotation player in the league, which is about what you can expect optimistically from most of the players in this draft. Its that they likely could have traded down to the 12-14 range and still gotten him and something else. But of course you never see the bobcats doing that shit because they have terrible management. 6/28/2013 2:49:30 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148439 Posts user info edit post |
its kinda funny, if Zeller had gone pro last year, he would've been projected as a top-5 pick, and the Bobcats getting him at 4 wouldn't have seemed like a bad idea 6/28/2013 3:18:16 PM |
tracer All American 13876 Posts user info edit post |
i think they probably wanted to trade down...there were rumors of it and they brought in a bunch of players that would've gone in the middle of the round. i wonder if those plans didnt all fall through and they already made up their mind in who they liked, so they just went for him at 4.
^thats how i'm looking at it.

Well at least they arent extending mullens. Giving gerald the qo is probably the right decision. Better than extending him and better than releasing him. Not like he has trade value may as well squeeze another year out of him to see if he finally develops 6/28/2013 7:28:07 PM |

There are only a few rules I live by. Never get less than 12 hours sleep, Never play cards with a man who has the same first name as a city, never get involved with a woman who has a tattoo of a dagger on her body, and never draft a white guy in the lottery. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese. 6/29/2013 12:02:43 PM |

Whorecats have not given up on Bismack, but they need to pair him with a scorer. They needed offense down low. Zeller was clearly the best offensive big (aside from Bennett) in the draft. He's not a great post-up scorer, but they will have him shooting midrange jumpers all day as a face-up 4.
If nothing else, this team will be exciting on the break, with Kemba, Henderson, MKG and Zeller all streaking up the court. 6/29/2013 2:34:43 PM |
tower All American 12280 Posts user info edit post |
Even when people were talking about Zeller as a top 3 pick last year I never wanted him. T-rex arms and not really a factor on defense. Two things you never hear said about players starting for a contender.
Although maybe their plan is to take one of only a few guys guaranteed to stick in the league and then trade him after he does ok for a couple years and still had "potential"
Still, this franchise looks more a former College All-Star team than a real NBA team 6/29/2013 7:51:24 PM |

I've read this a lot, but are his arms really that short for a PF? He's 6'11 with a 6'10 wing span. That might be short compared to some of the freaky long-armed centers in the NBA, but it seems perfectly fine for PF (which is where he's gonna play).7/1/2013 8:00:14 PM |
