Ah, I see.

Mass arrests are indeed taking place. I assume everyone that was in the gallery will be arrested.

yeah but can you imagine if you got arrested and it turns out they say the vote was too late...i mean, if it doesn't pass because of procedural issues, then it was entirely because of the crowd. the screaming crowd effectively killed the bill.

that's kind of awesome, and probably worth it to those who showed up.

I'm not a fan of representative democracy, but mobs scare me more than crooked senators. The latter are predictable.

this wasn't a mob. they didn't storm the floor. they were protesting. they were doing whatever they could legally to express their support for wendy whatshername and oppose the bill.

they didn't light shit on fire, they screamed and chanted. it was no more unreasonable than the senators using procedural mumbo jumbo to filibuster the bill and extend debate and to shut down the filibuster.

maybe the protest got out of hand a little bit, i don't know. i'm not there and only saw a few short videos of the rotunda area, and it was packed.

I'm glad this vote was blocked. These abortion laws are so retarded.

What I find more disgusting is how a majority of those senators are so ideologically intransigent that they still voted that talking about a prior abortion bill was not germane to this abortion bill. Utterly sickening. They were like circling sharks the whole time.

As I said, I don't understand why the time limit matters. If they have a majority, they're going to pass it, and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

true but the more things like this happen, the more attention it garners from the media and public. Therefore it becomes a huge issue and people take note.

It might not be a complete victory but in the end its certain a battle won even if they lose the war.

^ Still don't understand why liberals go ape shit about executing convicted criminals, but don't give a damn about aborting babies. It's one thing if most abortions were due to rape or the woman's health was truly at stake, then I understand the need. But most abortions are carried out because of unprotected sex and the mother and/or father does not want to be accountable for their actions.

I don't get up in arms about abortion in general as it's here to stay, but laws preventing late term abortions and the shit Kermit Gosnell was doing are absolutely necessary. That shit is murder.

^ Still don't understand why republicans go ape shit about abortion, but preach abstinence only education, which inevitably leads to less safe sex and more abortions.

Still don't understand how the Christian Right feels they have the right over 'God' to determine that another human should be executed.

I'm not a republican so I can't answer that, but I personally don't like abortion because it is killing a person. I know everyone doesn't agree, but logically a person becomes a person at conception. Even though the baby is "out of sight," it is still there and alive.

(has nothing to do with religion for me which most people assume.)

first off, Kermit Gosnell was a sick fuck who no sane person supports. he was not performing abortions, he was murdering babies. believe it or not, there is a pretty big difference.

and I have no idea how anybody, having seen statistics on racial bias in executions, could still support the death penalty.

nobody is a fan of abortion. if you're against abortions, don't get one. but fuck trying to prevent someone else from getting one.

This was worse than that. At least a filibuster follows the rules. They just screamed so loud the government couldn't operate any more. Shameful.

That's what the courts are for, not a mob with pitchforks.

Although the legislature is allowed to govern itself procedurally however it chooses. The public shouldn't even be allowed in the building. It's none of their business.

Literally ignoring a point of order from an opposing woman. Deciding without a vote and against the precedent of the filibuster that it's off-topic to talk about how another abortion bill affects this one.

Okay. Ace job governing itself procedurally.

A bill that affects thousands of women is none of the public's business, I see.

The only time I want politicians associating with my vagina is during sex, and based on my opinions of politicians and bureaucrats, that's really unlikely to happen.

aka stay out.

Also Texas senate you are full of bullshit I'm glad that my only association with Texas is Austin, which is in general a delightful place to be.

I think I'm scared.
But the feminists in my news feed have been absolutely hilarious.

How is this constitutional? Can a political party continue calling special sessions until they get the results they want?

Because they believe the criminal is a human being, but the fetus is not. And I happen to agree with this view (although I'm still all right with the death penalty.)

By the way, when you perform an abortion, you're not killing a baby...you're killing a fetus. A 3-month fetus is no more of a baby than a baby is a teenager. (Less, actually. At least a baby and a teenager are physiologically complete human beings...a fetus is just a little 3-inch tadpole-thing.)

neither the egg nor sperm have a complete genetic code for an individual. the individual's biological identity forms at conception.
