If it was possible to do so, I would have reached through the TV screen to bitch slap Ted for flying to LA and then searching through Stella's storage unit for that locket.

The use of green screen is symbolic of the decline in the show's quality. I was laughing when Robin started floating in the air and not in a good way. Jumped the mother fucking shark times infinity.

Ah Green Screen. Are they so cheap that they couldn't actually film a scene on the the bridge in Central Park??? The show takes place in NYC! I realize it's all filmed elsewhere but come on!

The story-lines for this show's characters have played out. A new setting with new characters can completely change everything...

...but I'm going to bet the new show will have 1 returning writer (if that) and hope to get by based on the good graces of name alone.

^I think they losing most of the writers for the new show will be a good thing. I don't want to watch (endure?) the same stuff again.

i'm usually the first to rag on this show but this episode was actually pretty damn decent, at least when considering what we've seen delivered as of recent. i'm not promoting that we accept mediocrity, rather, i'm confessing that i may be slightly biased by its relative benchmark compared to other HIMYM episodes not other tv series.

also the floating robin did was intentionally cheesy. that should have been pretty clear.

Tonight's episode wasn't new was it? TV Guide didn't have it listed as new and epguides.com doesn't have a new episode listed either.

Fox seems to be only network airing new eps

One more thing. I have to give the show kudos based on the scene with Lily from 7 years ago. Despite what we have seen in the past two years that may imply the contrary, this show has had a defined ending and hasn't been a complete cornucopia of crap, such as Lost.

According to the writers and various workers who have signed NDAs, the finale that Lost had was predefined back in either the first or second season. Unlike HIMYM, it wasn't shot, though. Not sure I believe this, but I figure it won't change your opinion of it either way .

i missed the beginning of the episodes due to weather stuff so i missed beginning of the framing but the end...

Quote :
"what mother would miss her daughter's wedding?"

then ted tears up.

does that mean what i think it does? (how far in the future were they there?)

That either Ted's mother died before his wedding or the mother's mother died before his and maybe Ted blames himself? I don't know.

I like that they finally brought back Swarley though lol.

I thought the part where the mother said she didn't want Ted to live in the past confirmed that she was going to die

^^ it crossed my mind but it was such a sad thought that I didn't think they'd want to end the show that way.

yep. ted's tangentially telling them about their dead mother by telling stories about all the broads he's banged.

i figured that out a long time ago.

sepinwall's blog post about it for those interested: http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/review-how-i-met-your-mother-vesuvius-a-not-so-old-married-couple

Quote :
"UPDATE: Woke up to many comments and tweets from people insisting that Ted gets upset because his mother died before their wedding — or that Robin is dying or has died. That's not it. There are multiple clues pointing very strongly towards Cristin Milioti's character being ill: 1)She tells Ted she's worried about him getting lost in his own stories, suggesting she won't be around to help pull him out. 2)When the gang observes that this day may be the last one they spend together for a long time, Ted in the future begins talking about how you deal with something like that, and the Mother finishes the sentence for him, suggesting you just don't talk about it and enjoy the time you have. 3)When the Mother suggests that no mom would voluntarily miss her daughter's (daughter's, not child's) wedding, Ted begins to cry, and the Mother does not apologize as if she has made a faux pas by bringing up a bad thing that happened to him in the past. It's something that's happening to her right now."

if that is how they end it... lame.

LOL Lost.

Spoiler alert, island is powered by a magic golden stone jacuzzi from Legends of the Hidden Temple and everyone hugs each other in magic church heaven in slow motion while violin music plays.

What a clever bunch of writing that was!

HIMYM has impressed me with the past few episodes, the start of this season sucked ass.

Meh, highly unlikely the mother dies. I bet the mother has cancer or some illness that they are worried about when they have that dinner and they are worried she won't survive to see her daughter's wedding. It'll probably turn out that she ends up making it through it and being fine.

Can't see a show that is so comedy-focused/light to really go that dark.

Perhaps even the mom is undergoing treatment and that's why Ted decided to tell his kids all about their past to help keep their minds off the mother being in surgery or something. The show could end with them finding out the mother is going to be fine. Who knows.

Has it been explained to us why Robin's mother is British? And is her having an intentionally annoying accent a way for the writers to say "fuck you" to us?

Also fuck all you Lost haters. Bitch all you want it's still being remembered in history as a great and amazing show.

Quote :
"A critically acclaimed and popular success, Lost was consistently ranked by critics on their lists of top ten series of all time.[2] The first season garnered an average of 15.69 million viewers per episode on ABC.[3] During its sixth and final season, the show averaged over 11 million U.S. viewers per episode. Lost was the recipient of hundreds of award nominations throughout its run, and won numerous industry awards, including the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2005,[4] Best American Import at the British Academy Television Awards in 2005, the Golden Globe Award for Best Drama in 2006 and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series. "Lost" was declared the highest rated show for the first ten years of IMDb.com Pro (2002–2012).[5] In 2013, the Writers Guild of America ranked Lost No. 27 in its list of the 101 Best Written TV Series of All Time.[6]"

How about the episode where Robin is telling her "kids" the story of how she met their father, then at the end they revealed that it was just an illusion and they were not real?

Or how about the scene where the entire episode is a countdown and Lily tells Marshall that his father died? The script they gave Jason Segel called for Lily to tell him she was pregnant. They did the old switch-er-oo to get a more realistic/unexpected reaction from him.

The show knows how to be dark when it wants to be.

It can go dark, but if the finale goes that dark, it'll forever be remembered for THAT as opposed to the seasons of light-hearted banter/shenanigans.

I compare it to Scrubs, yes they can go dark and get serious but I can't see them ending on such a sour note.

I say in the last episode they kill Ted, the least likeable character.

In the episode where they run through the mother's back story, my wife remarked, "I like her too much for her to end up with Ted."

This weeks HIMYM sucked ass.

Also if you like LOST fuck you. Idc if it got good reviews. Reviews said Nickleback was band of the decade.
First 2 seasons were good and hooked me. Great characters, but ultimately lazy writing, cheap "twists" in filler seasons... No mysteries resolved, season 3+ the writers clearly had no clue where the series was going. If you were satisfied with the ending of that series you are a fucking moron.

haha i loved the first 4 seasons of LOST.

i hate watched the last 2, because i was way too invested in that show.

also it seems pretty dang obvious to me that the mother is going to die, and that they've known it since they filmed the ending with the kids during season 2.

its best if you split it into halves.

the first half was the "man i love/hate that guy" shtick that went on about 6 people too long.

the second half brought back a lot of people and i actually questioned if it was the end of the series at that point.

Meh, season has gotten better over the last few episodes, mainly because more inclusion of the mother and then wrapping things up.

Hopefully the finale next week will be solid(I don't expect great).
