Used 135s are nearly impossible to find in this price range. When I was looking 2 years ago, I had 2 sold out from under me before I could even get to the dealers to test drive them. Main reason I ended up with a 335 instead." |
That might have been the case 2 years ago but in my experience, for right now, that isn't true anymore. 135i's with the sport package can be found pretty easily for $25-28k. I've seen a few listed for $22-23k, but they had slushboxes.11/26/2013 8:34:58 AM |

Check out this ad. - http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/4183098012.html
Some of my favorite parts:
Quote : | "I just had all new Dunlop Sports run-flats put on it this past week. Those are $400 tires each plus balance and mount at BMW. The tires that I replaced were not worn at all but they made a course noise on the road and I felt they shouldn't. Yes, I'm that anal about my cars. " |
So your run-flats were making noise, and you decided to replace them with more overpriced run-flats, which will eventually make more noise.
Quote : | " I came into this car from a Porsche Cayman S and this BMW is better in every way. " |

I can't get over the 135 looks. I like the performance and interior proportions, but that exterior just looks squashed or something. If only they had tried to add some e30 styling cues instead of trying to shoehorn the e90 styling into such a short package.
For 2008:
Quote : | "These reductions amount to a weight saving of 137 pounds; our 135i weighed 3420 pounds versus 3557 for a 335i coupe.
Fortunately, there is no reduction in engine size or output. The 135i gets the same 300-hp twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine as the 335i. We clocked a 0-to-60 time of 4.9 seconds for the heavier 335i; the 135i did it in a blistering 4.7, with a 13.3-second quarter-mile at 106 mph. The 135i is seriously quick, but best of all, the quickness comes easily, as the turbocharged engine has enough torque and horsepower to waft the 135i into triple-digit speeds without any drama. Slightly more engine noise and exhaust hum enter the 135i cabin than in the 335i, but the sounds are good enough to forgo turning on the radio. " |

Ehh. I don't get the appeal of the NSX at all. I mean, they're cool, but there isn't a 10-20 year old Honda with underwhelming power anywhere that's cool enough to rate the prices they fetch.
Then again, I think the 135i looks good. 11/26/2013 6:05:30 PM |

I'd look at an E90 M3 sedan, Boss 302, NSX, maybe a high mileage Lexus IS-F but I'm not sure if they came in a manual.
Can 997 911's be had for ~$30k yet?

No manual transmission kicks it off the list. 11/27/2013 5:59:05 AM |
TKE-Teg All American 43409 Posts user info edit post |
I've seen 1-2 higher mileage 997's for under $30k. But I'm not going to pay $30k for a 911 with 120k miles on it, that just makes me too nervous.
C63's have an exception for transmission choice and weight, b/c they're so badass. Sadly they're out of my budget.
I hadn't thought of the Lexus IS-F, and a quick search shows 2 within 500 miles for around $28k. I don't mind it's transmission, and while I don't really care for the looks (that swollen hood just ruins it) I would give one consideration if it was relatively nearby. But not interested enough to travel far.
Boss 302's are out of my price range, and probably wouldn't be interested in one anyway - hate the interior and driving position.
Hiro, no red cars and that other silver Cayman doesn't have the sport package.
E90 sedans are out, as they fail my seated position test (position seat back for my legs to have room and I'm sitting next to the B pillar - drives me crazy).
No NSX's - any that I can afford are too old, plus like I said the Cayman S is superior in every subjective measurement.
Appreciate the suggestions 11/27/2013 8:18:23 AM |

So if you're not married to the weight requirement why not consider a CTS-V? It ticks all the other boxes, including manual trans. The 2009+ models are nuts but might be out of your price range--but the older car is significantly lighter (I'm seeing 3850 lbs), still make 400 HP, and has been by pretty much everyone's account one of the best sports sedans out there since introduction.
Here's a 2007 with 54K miles, asking $24K: http://tinyurl.com/m5fjquv
It'd be on my list...

Fair enough. My youngest brother had a Boss 302 that he tracked and used as a DD. It was nasty. Interior was substandard but fast and great handling car. They'll legitimately outrun an M3 on the track.
I think the IS-F warrants a test drive. There is one for sale near my office that I've been meaning to stop by and look at. I hate the stacked tailpipes though.
It's heavy but you could also look at the V10 M5s. A buddy of mine had one a couple of years ago - I was very impressed the couple of times time I drove it. Long term reliability might be suspect.
Please oh please don't get a C6. Or an Elise (thought they'd be ok if depreciation was where it should be.) 11/27/2013 10:18:55 PM |

Not interested in the first generation CTS-V; the styling inside and out just doesn't work for me.
Not interested in a V10 M5; I had noticed that some were in my price range but I don't even want to think about how costly that maintenance could be. Same for E63 AMGs - some are in my price range but the upkeep...yikes.
Test drove that Cayman S down in Charlotte; way too much things wrong with it. Despite a clean carfax I think it had been in an accident of sorts (1-2 air leaks inside the car, passenger door sounded clunky when shutting door, etc). 12/2/2013 8:19:25 AM |

^^^ I used to get about 20 mpg in my IX in primarily rural driving (and primarily hauling ass). I didn't think it was too bad, considering.
They are fun as hell to drive. It's like a superman suit, even without the computer stability/traction/active yaw control stuff, and they are VERY distilled and focused, while still being very, very practical...but there's always a trade-off, and in this case, it's refinement. I don't know if you'd be happy with it as a daily driver, although I understand that a X would be a lot better in that regard.
I still say you need something like this:
or even this:
plus a good DD to tow it with.

Looks like the car is already registered on that website. Not much info listed on the site. Could be a real deal for someone I guess, since the vehicle description says nothing about the car being supercharged (though I suppose that could change).
