ok, i don't even know what your "argument" is then. Are you arguing that's it's ridiculous that some people have a problem with gay people? I don't think anybody is arguing against that ITT (well, except maybe the people who are claiming he did this for attention.

all I did was comment on a post in which someone asked why it's an issue by saying it's ridiculous

for whatever reason you decided to pick up on it, and then ended up agreeing with my point about it being ridiculous

holy shit man, that's not what went down in this thread. this thread wasn't about it being "ridiculous" that some people have an issue with gay people. this thread was about how his coming-out will affect his draft status because some of his teammates, coaches, and managers might have an issue with it. and you argument was (i though) "his college teamates didn't have an issue, why would future teamates have an issue? that's ridiculous".

but yes, I agree with you that it's ridiculous that people have an issue with gay people, i hope that's been apparent from the beginning. but it doesn't matter what i think. it's what his teamates and coaches and managers think.

why do we allow bleacher report to be posted

im not going to say that was the dumbest article i've ever read because i've read other articles on bleacher report but I closed the page when it listed a bunch of fucking terrible measureables then said his bench press, which was the least embarrassing, was the biggest problem

^^sorry for sullying up your otherwise classy Sports Talk. Is the AP any better?

http://www.wralsportsfan.com/pick-6-standout-performances-from-the-nfl-combine/13429531/

Quote :
"SAM STRUGGLES: As the Southeastern Conference co-defensive player of the year for Missouri, Michael Sam has proven his pass-rushing prowess. He has made headlines for his quest to become the league's first openly gay player.

But ultimately, the biggest issue with Sam is he has the skills and the build that's caught between a defensive end in a 4-3 scheme and an outside linebacker in a 3-4 system. The "tweener" label could keep him as a mid-round pick at best.

Sam didn't boost his stock at the combine much, either. He ran the 40 in 4.91 seconds, hardly in Clowney's company. He also had the lowest vertical jump, 25½ inches, and the second-fewest bench press reps, 17, among those at his position who participated."

I think they were sayin his 40 time wasn't close to Clowney's. In fact, there were at least 14 defensive linemen who were faster than Sam. Several were within a tenth of second of Clowney. I think that's what they were referring to.

the writer didn't bring those others up, though

I'm just pointing out that's an odd comparison because nobody has ever compared Sam to Clowney. a bit of unneeded shade.

Apparently some NFLers aren't ok with the fact that he kissed a dude

If you're already going to have to bust your ass just to even make the team, what do you do? Have your own reality show, of course

He will get cut. How many over the top "I'm Gay" moments will he produce. Not one of the guys drafted that were at the draft, smeared cake on their girlfriend and sucked her tongue. This guy is setting gay people back.

ESPN columnist Jason Whitlock, a supporter of Sam, recently
Quote :
"It all feels orchestrated now: the draft-day kiss; the cake-covered face; the tears; the celebration that conveniently captured just Sam, his boyfriend and his two agents; and even the "Stand with Sam" T-shirts selling onmichaelsam.com.

Who knew a reality TV show was being filmed? Who knew Sam's agents (Cameron Weiss and Joe Barkett) and publicist (Howard Bragman) had cut deals to be producers on the reality TV show?

This is all scripted and amateur. And devious, too."

because he's at the end of his career, and the drafting of an openly-gay athlete is a bigger deal than the end of a journeymans career

and football is way more popular than basketball in the US

[Edited on May 16, 2014 at 3:14 PM. Reason : he still should have told the Rams before the draft, though]

I haven't kept up with the timeline, and I'm sure his agents were already shopping the idea, but I wonder if the show would've gotten the green light if he wasn't drafted

Yeah, that was a terrible idea. If you say stuff about just wanting to be a football player and not wanting to be different from your teammates, etc. you can't then turn around and go out of your way to draw as much attention as possible to yourself.

This wouldn't go over well with any rookie, but it's an especially terrible idea if your the first openly gay player in the NFL.

Jesus fucking Christ, man. Lol at "sucking tongue"...not that it really matters but they weren't making out/slobbering all over each other.

Even if they were...who the fuck cares. He shared a momentous occasion in his life with somebody he loves.

If you are blind to the fact that this guy is a walking gay publicity stunt, nothing I can do to help you. That celebration was fake, it was his audition for Oprah.

? The second part often involves "publicity stunts." And I don't think anybody's trying to single out Sam as the only guy who has fallen into that. Plus, it's totally understandable--I mean, why not get paid?

But it's also totally distasteful. It always is. And there's no need for you to defend it.

^^no need for me to defend what? Him getting paid or that he kissed his boyfriend? I don't see how either one of those things is distasteful.

And I wouldn't call Sam kissing his boyfriend a publicity stunt. I mean, the Oprah thing? Yeah that's a publicity stunt, clearly. But him celebrating getting drafted...I dunno. I wouldn't call that a publicity stunt. But there's not point arguing that.

I can't recall a single draft-day celebration that involved focusing on the drafted player solely to see him kiss his significant other. I also can't recall a single time that a player in the 7th round had a camera crew at his house. Then dude goes and gets a reality show? Yeah, it's all a publicity stunt. if you can't see that, then I don't know what else to say to you.
